Double Monmouth coffee get.
1x Monmouth espresso blend 1x Fazenda sp Brazilian beans
Plus a Square mile delivery en route too. I could go into business with this amount.
IF I was willing to share my bean stash.

The Monmouth Fazenda beans are amazing btw.
Makes a lovely smooth Cortado, or Flat White, and had a longer americano with milk this morning with the sunday papers.
Nice.

I forgot the exact name of this thread, so this is a doubly appropriate post...
After the most expensive wank I've ever had (private fertility treatment...) I decided to go on a pilgrimage to Prufrock nearby as I've never actually been.
Much like the porn on offer in the clinic's masturbation station, I was left wanting more from Prufrock tbh.
It's not bad, don't get me wrong, but it's like going on a pilgrimage to the Vatican and accidentally ending up at St Paul's. It's good but maybe not quite what I expected. 8/10

Tomo I'm hoping to pay my first visit to Prufrock next month - how did it fall short of your expectations, out of interest?

I think I was expecting almost fine dining but in a cafe. It's actually kinda grungy. The staff are very eager to help you out, which is actually kinda annoying. One of them poured me a tap water like I'd ordered Bollinger.
Honestly, it's good, but not particularly unique and I had sky high expectations from internet and a friend who loves the place.

They do have a bag of Somalian coffee for £67.50 if you're feeling extravagant. Gunna be expensive dialing that one in, especially with a 150g bag.

I popped into UE to pick up my black friday haul today. Treated myself to a cinnamon bun, some Washed Etheopian Haru and bit of Costa Rican Hacienda San Ignacio with notes of fruit pastels.
I think their 25% off code is still active if you fancy a bit.

It is basically *just* a nice cafe, but hey, coffee jesus' place with nice coffee. Plus, i saw billy childish there. Other hipster wankers may apply when you visit.

I'm going coffee adjacent with this one. The Hotel Choc Velvetiser – anyone got one amongst their kitchen gadgets? Tempted to grab one as a xmas present but can't decide to go all in or whether it's just a well marketed milk frother? Reviews seem pretty favourable.

We got one for Xmas a few years ago and the girl uses it constantly. Makes really good hot choc. My b2c machine doesn’t have a steamer so it’s handy for frothing a bit of milk up for a milk coffee. Do you need one? Probably not. It’s the definition of a luxury item. Does it work? Yeah, it makes a lovely drink. If you do get one, third party choc works fine. We buy a barrel of this every so often. Works out less than half the price of the branded sachets (and it’s vegan) www.amazon.co.uk/Maya-Belgian-Flakes-Luxury-Chocolate/dp/B081CQ466S

Belated thanks for this, Tomo - I'm still hoping to pop along next week, but I'll try to keep my expectations in check!

It's a gift idea so I don't mind that it's a bit of luxury. We'd definitely get use out of it next to our coffee machine too as we no longer have a milk frother. I'm sure the kids will appreciate it as well.

I drink 99% americano/expresso/pour over so I didn’t bother getting a machine with a milkotron. It’s just another thing to clean. The velvetiser is fine for the rare occasion I fancy a flat white

I don't like milk of any kind, so a frother would definitely be surplus to requirements for me

Speaking of which, the velvetiser does well with milk alternatives, too, if that’s a consideration. oat milk and the vegan choc above makes a pretty dynamite drink for anyone off the lactose

My machine has the frother thing but I’ve only used it twice. I only have milk in coffee when I buy it made as it generally evens out the quality.

The eldest makes hot choc with the Velvetiser and just wallops Cadburys instant into it. Probably not advised tbh, you need to lightly sprinkle it otherwise the spinner just clogs up. Need to get her onto the official flakes.

Can you wallop a powder? I'm not totally unconvinced.

Not yet, Vortex - that's on the cards for Wednesday (and possibly Thursday/Friday, depending upon how much I like it!).

I finally made it to Prufrock!
Only had a coffee, in the end - the all-you-can-eat buffet breakfast at the hotel had done a number on my appetite by then - but it was well worth going.
No hipster celebrity sightings, nor Coffee Jesus himself, sadly.

Anyone recommend a good decaf? I need to reduce my stress levels and I suspect my caffeine intake isn't helping me out too much!
I've just bought some decaf and half-caf to try from Rave but interested to hear if there's anything you lovely people would suggest giving a go...

I spent more time in Monmouth than Prufrock during my London trip, because the former was much easier to reach from my hotel than the latter. A few thoughts:
Alemayehu Daniel Miju (Ethiopia) - very nice indeed.
Mutero (Kenya) - good, but not great.
Suke Quoto (Ethiopia) - disappointing.

Nice. I like Monmouth a lot from what I have had from them.
I should have more Monmouth beans arriving for xmas. Hopefully, my sister went for the fazenda beans again as they were my favourite this year I think.

Hasbean are "shrink-flating" their bean packages to 220g from 250g, at £8.50 delivered. Is that still good, or should I shop around?
Actually I've just realized I'm on some sort of legacy pricing. It's over £10 to open a new sub. I'll just suck it up, the size reduction still keeps the price lower than most other places.

VortexHave you been into any of the Monmouth shops? They'll make you a filter coffee using beans of your choice, plus they had the best almond croissant I've ever eaten.
