Oh yes: I can legitimately “like” posts about actual beans now that I’m officially a grinder wanker.
Wait. Something about that sounds a bit wrong…

Hey, speaking of V60s - over a week ago - I have a two-cup, clear plastic Hario going free* to a good home, if anyone's interested. Complete with a few filter papers and the leaflet/scoop that came with it, minus the original box.
Any takers?
* For the cost of shipping, which I think should be around £3.25. Will check and confirm in the event that anybody wants it.

Last call for this before I pop it on eBay this evening...

Does anyone have a manual lever machine, like the Cafelat Robot or one of the Flair models?
The Baby Gaggia to which I have access appears to be well and truly buggered, so I'm looking into other espresso options.

No, altho I am also slightly intrigued by them. But also concerned they are highly dependent on how good you are at maintaining a consistent pressure profile when pulling shots.
I am moving house soon hopefully and it would be cool to get a new espresso maker to replace my Sage Barista, which I barely use now because I have a Niche Zero grinder and mostly drink V60. Something like a lever machine might fit the gap for when I want an espresso.
But... Also no steam wand :/

La Pavoni Europiccola? James Hoffmann’s video on it made it look pretty interesting!

I looked at a flair when I was getting an espresso machine. It ticked a lot of boxes but, ultimately, it looks like a bit of a hassle with all the pre-heating and whatnot when all I really wanted to do was press a button and have coffee.

I've had the Delonghi Dedica for a while now and it makes amazing coffee for how cheap it was. It's ruined getting a flat white anywhere now.

Thanks, chaps.
It'll cost a minimum of £115 to get the Gaggia looked at - more if replacement parts are involved - and a cursory spot of Googling says I can get the Flair NEO for £125.
Hoffmann says the NEO has its drawbacks, including the equivalent of a pressurised portafilter; however, it's also modular, so you can buy a proper portafilter separately without breaking the bank.
It's probably worth buying a higher-end model to start with, of course, but the immediate comparison that jumped out at me was the £115 vs. £125 - spending the former on getting a 15-year-old pump machine working again seems kind of daft, all things considered.

I was uhming and ahing about upgrading but just changing the basket was enough to take it to the next level. If you have a decent grinder/well ground coffee, you can upgrade to a bottomless 51mm portafilter and you go up quite a few notches in flavour. Im not a massive espresso person, but if I cant be arsed doing a v60, it makes an amazing americano.

Yeah I've got a good grinder. Was looking at videos of the bottomless thing, didn't think it would really make that much difference.

Makes it a lot less bitter and more flavourful. They arent a load of money to see if you notice a difference, especially if you already have a good grinder.

Didnt find a 'known' brand that size but I did get one off amazon. There seem to be like 3 different types being sold by 1000 different ali express resellers so I kind of closed my eyes and picked one and so far so good.
You can also just buy a basket and hacksaw out a bit of the plastic from the stock one if you can be arsed.

I’ve got a melitta drip machine thing. If I could give just one bit of advice to people about having better coffee, it would be to get a coffee machine with a thermal jug and not a heating plate.
It’s honestly the biggest difference in taste you can get for coffee, imho.

Into Prufrock this morning for a breakfast bun & some coffee(s).
Roll was amazing and picked up some beans for home too. Place was doing a roaring trade & I've never seen coffee groupies taking pictures of an old coffee machine before, which was... a bit odd.

Oh man, those red brick beans make a nice coffee. Thanks all who mentioned them.
May have to try a wee sub with square mile for a bit.

I recently picked up some of the latest Red Brick blend - thoroughly enjoying it, and somewhat aghast at how quickly I'm getting through a 350g bag!
Glad you're enjoying it too.

Speaking of Square Mile, I've just picked up a bag apiece of Red Brick and Sweetshop - £19.00 for the pair.
For reference, Sweetshop alone costs £18.00 from the Square Mile online shop.
Score!

Nice! How did you manage that?
The red brick I picked up is disappearing fast. It's really nice.

It was a local espresso bar, listed as a stockist on the Square Mile website.
How they can sell it so cheaply and make a profit, I've no idea; however, I certainly won't complain!

The Sweetshop is very nice indeed, although I'm not entirely sure it's worth an extra £6.00 when compared to Red Brick (using Square Mile's own prices as a guide).

I had another excellent offering from Crankhouse today, courtesy of my local specialty coffee shop - that's the third Crankhouse product I've tried, and all three have been excellent. I can't recommend them strongly enough.

My scale is broken and stuck on Oz’s. It’s genuinely made me want to murder anyone who pushes for a return to imperial.
