I remember Carrie saying something like, “I am never, EVER doing a kung fu movie again,” after finishing the original trilogy, as it had just taken so much out of her.

Are the action scenes just rubbish because everyone is old now?
John Wick would seem to disprove that.
Is there any way to make a poll? I'm really interested just because it seems half the people here thought it was great and the other half thought it was terrible. It seems like a real Marmite Mince Pie movie.

Regardless of how I felt about the sequels (they had ALOT of issues) at least I can say they were quite well thought out and had a "vision" in terms of its story and meanings behind it.
This though, it's like 14yr old fan wrote it. It's genuinely just a bit stupid.

I need to track down Animatrix after I'm done with M3. I'm sure I can find it somewhere...
I think I liked it very much, and the recent outbreak of awesome shorts collections (Love, Death, Robots and Oats Studios) gave me a hankering for more.

I saw this yesterday and the word that springs to mind is ‘pointless’. It offers nothing new, is not mind bending in any way, and feels dated. It just replicates stuff from 20 years ago and believes that is enough. Well it’s not. Awful.

I came out of the cinema thinking that. It was rather pointless and felt like a couple of new bonus tracks on a greatest hits album by one of your favourite bands.
Enjoyable but doesn't really further the narrative of neo and trinity. More resets it.

See I don't understand why a film like this doesn't give the "raid" guys a call and say how much do you want?

I liked it, marginally better than 2 for my money - doesn’t have anything as jaw dropping as the highway scene but overall I think it held together better. Obvs not a patch on the original. As others have mentioned the super machine race’s habit of failing to hit a cow’s ass with a banjo whilst shooting is puzzling. And there are plenty of ‘eh?!’ moments, but I had fun with it

…oh and Keanu looks every bit of his near sixty years of age during a couple of the fight scenes, to be expected really

I didn't think this was awful and enjoyed the meta-ness of it. It's a good thing I did, as it practically has nothing else going for it plotwise. The action setpiece at the end was alright, I suppose. There's also absolutely no reason for it to be two and a half hours long.

During the first act I actually thought something very interesting was going to transpire in the rest of the film.
Such a wasted opportunity

I liked it. Different type of action this time around but still worked for me. You aren't going to get Neo or Trinity jumping about like they did last time so they will need to rely on the younger cast going forward.
Felt like the Matrix but also Different enough and not playing it completely safe like SW:FA did.

Yes, it does try to be different and deserves credit for that and the meta of having the characters discuss and critique the reaction to the films as the reaction to the game in the film was quite fun. I could've done without the Merovingian's ranting about sequels though.
The explicit criticism of Warner Brothers made me chuckle too.

All that was great at the start and then they didn't run with it. I actually think the supporting cast was pretty good, especially with what they had to work with. But for action scenes in a matrix film to be boring is a tad disappointing. And what, it turned into a heist movie half way through?? I also don't get any chemistry between the two leads; that could have actually carried the film, but yeah, I didn't give a monkey's about them.

The Matrix. When your Dad dusts off *that* coat from the wardrobe and goes on a date wearing it.
The first act was the best part and then everyone from Sense8 rocked up and it got a bit lost in it’s own knots.
I might have napped for a bit which is never a good sign.

I watched it again today. The first hour is really excellent. The bit with Niobe is a total drag. The end is good, but Keanu's age limits the action. The final couple of scenes are great.

and then everyone from Sense8 rocked up Ok, now I need to watch it. Not sure how Keanu's age limits the action... has anyone seen John Wick? Plus he's probably 90% cgi anyway. Since we can't have a poll, and I apparently have too much time on my hands, I totted up everyone's opinions as best as I could. I make it: Great: 7 Ok: 4 Shit: 7 So that's conclusive then.

Maybe a side roll or two?

I mean it was a successful film in that I want to talk about it still....but I want to talk about how they messed it up?
I think it's had a poor box office, so we won't see another Matrix film for at least another 10 years.

Not just about box office though, it’s (legally) streaming in America. On the one hand I enjoyed it, so I wouldn’t mind another. On the other hand, Revolutions

Discussing this at work, I was shocked about how many of my colleagues would opt for the blue pill. Is there anything wrong with being "shee'ple"? I mean we're shee'ple working/consuming/living/loving as we go

That tallies with critic and audience reactions on Rotten Tomatoes too - it's 66% so "fresh", but that I think the "rotten" threshold is like 60% or something so it's not far from it. Certainly reviews I've read have been divided between "Bah" and "Cool". Not surprised it's done poorly at the box office - you'd practically have to get a gun to my head to make me go in a cinema in this giant omicron party we're having, and it's not going for the same demographic as Spider-Man (just a subset of it), nor does it have threat of spoilers if you don't go down there, and if you're going to risk it, it'll be for Spider-Man.

Yeah, personally, the only film I've risked going to cinemas this entire pandemic WAS Spider-Man. As someone mentioned above, it (Matrix), as well as every WB release, has been streaming legally on HBOMax in the US. And even then, I don't have any real desire to watch it again, unlike say, Dune, which I watched a few times while it was available.
It's okay! Fun to be back in that world for a moment, but an unnecessary sequel that adds nothing to the originals.

I'm always suspicious of films that are 2.5 hours long, especially reboots or belated sequels. It's as if they're trying to make up for lack of quality with quantity.

I actually think this is a great send off for the franchise. I really enjoyed it as a matrix film. My only real probalem with it is that Agent Smith seemed kind of pointless, I wish they could have come with more of a role for him. I don't get what happened to him at the end? He turned into someone else and farted? What?

Currently I've got it at 7/10
Needs another watch (when it comes to a TV streaming service) which I suspect will either elevate it to an 8 or more likely drag it down to a 6.
At first viewing I think I enjoyed it more than 2 and 3, and it was certainly different in tone.
The scene with the Merovingian seemed utterly pointless to the rest of the movie and there were a few things about Smith that I didn't get (like pretty much everything).
Just as well Matrix 1 is a stone cold classic that stands on its own and you can easily just pretend the rest of the series doesn't exist!
