In other news, it seems that for 10 years, there's been a broken key in the lock of the small window in our bedroom. Never noticed before and it's worked no bother. Except until last night when I tried to take it off the catch. Have ordered a key extractor but in the meantime am trying all manner of things to try and prise it out. Grrr.

I don’t suppose anyone has had any experience of installing a whole house humidifier? Condensation, esp in the upstairs rooms, is getting stupid so looking to alternatives. Any advice appreciated. If you have condensation wouldn’t you need a dehumidifier rather than a humidifier? That was an unhelpful typo! Yes, a dehumidifier. I understand from Google that they’re called PIV and seem like they might be a good alternative to multiple in-room dehumidifiers.

Have you tried the glue stick hack? Some people seem to have success ....

What have you tried already? Paper clip? Fish hook?
My girls love these sorts of problems. We had a keyfob in mounted letter box the other week that they managed to get out with a stick!

Yeah, tried paper clip, hair grip etc but can't seem to get enough purchase so the key can be grabbed with needle nose pliers. Haven't tried glue yet, last resort in case I gum it up...

Chewing gum squashed around it and hardened with ice?

Snap another key in another window lock and glue that to the end of the first one.

Neodymium (sp?) magnet? I guess that might just stick to lock also. But neodymium magnets are fun anyway so give it a go?

Chewing gum squashed around it and hardened with ice? If you don't have any ice handy, some liquid nitrogen will suffice instead.

A melted biro is the one that's always in those top hack videos.

Got the key out using the knife method but still won't open so handle is clearly fucked. Back to YouTube!
Huzzah, success using a measure belt clip. Handle replacement time at some point.

This is the kind of content I’m here for.
Lovely work. What’s the wood and did you hand tool the whole thing?
And will you make me a saw bench to order? And for free? And ship from the new world?

It's from the massive redwood in his garden that Els cut down with his bare hands, obviously.
