Hopefully the guy is using render and not plaster.

Just pressure washed one of the decks.
Pressure washing is easily in the top ten most satisfying things one can possibly do.
The one I was using was gas powered and the size of a decent generator. Made it even more exciting knowing I’m off to the ER if my attention slips.

We're getting our kitchen renovated shortly. I want to have motion sensor triggered LED strip lights along the bottom of the units.
There seem to be thousands of different options but we already have Philips Hue lighting in the house (including motion sensors) so I may just get those. Problem is that the length (10m) required costs £240. That's split between 6m for the units and 4m for the Island.
Does anyone else have experience putting these lights in their kitchen with motion sensors? I'm happy to have non-hue products as long as they have a workable motion sensor option.
Danke

Problem is that the length (10m) required costs £240. That's split between 6m for the units and 4m for the Island. Does anyone else have experience putting these lights in their kitchen with motion sensors? I'm happy to have non-hue products as long as they have a workable motion sensor option. Danke Not with motion sensors but we've got hidden LED strips downlighting our kitchen counters, and uplighting the ceiling in the dining part of the kitchen. If you aren't in a rush Hue products, especially LED strips and extensions are often on sale. A HotUKDeals alert is useful as they are regularly posted on there. We have about 30 hue lights and accessories now and have never paid close to full price for any of them. Another good option is using the Ebay 20% off 'select seller' codes when they are issued as electrical retailers are often included. In terms of motion sensors, are you sure you want them? Each to their own, but I think having to wave my arms above the counter before the lights go on when walking into the kitchen would be more annoying than helpful in practice. The LEDs are also so low power that leaving them on for hours at a time isn't that much of an issue. Also how long would you set the inactivity timer before they switch off again? Maybe one motion sensor for the whole room might be more practical if you want to avoid people leaving lights on? We do have a couple of Hue motion sensors in other rooms so familiar with the setup. We have a Hue wall switch and I regularly use this to flip between bright and more relaxed warm scenes. Especially with a kitchen diner. On/off is usually done by voice to an echo. One other aspect to consider if you haven't used LED strips before is ensuring you got appropriate diffusion. You really need to be able to hide the strip itself so it's not directly visible and also keep them at least 50cm away from the surface they are lighting, otherwise you'll see individual LEDs and that ruins the effect. If one or both is unavoidable, it's worth budgeting for diffusion strips like this. I'm no expert but can share our experiences if you have questions.

Thanks Muddy. Yeah I'm pretty sure about the motion sensors, we already use them for the hall way and most of the time they're pretty fault less. This is just for accent lighting. The main lighting will be old fashioned LED GU10 spotlights. The strip lights are just for when you come in at night for some water or when I'm being naughty and getting a snack. I'll stick a hue notification on hotdeals!

I replaced a couple of fascia boards on our extension this weekend, it actually worked out well and looks fine! I'm well shit at this kind of thing so it's somewhat of a miracle. They don't stand up well to close scrutiny but fuck it

What's the consensus on interior painting?
I've got a lot of sloped walls and unusual angles but it's not a huge space. Bedroom, office and lounge.
Knock it out myself or save the effort and pay some lackey to do it for me?

Painting and decorating is good fun. Only thing I hate is the woodwork. That's really dull. But I love getting the roller out [insert pic of Nora Batty here]

Unless the space is pretty awkward then for me painting is OK, it's all the prep beforehand I hate. Having to shift furniture around whilst you paint is also no fun.
I still have nightmares about the last tiny cloakroom I did, including a sloping ceiling, trying to paint around the toilet getting into horribly contorted positions whilst you're at it on the hottest weekend we had last summer, it didn't help that it needed five coats of white emulsion to paint over the truly awful chalk based grey paint my wife had painted it on a whim years ago.

Painting is fairly easy. Agree the prep is the horrible bit but doing it right also makes a huge difference to the quality of finish. Plenty of good youtube videos to help though.
We do all our own painting and wouldn't be prepared to pay someone else to do it under normal circumstances. We bought a new place last year and are doing one room every couple of months. It's not too bad. Each to their own but I prefer to save funds for the stuff that really benefits from a proper tradesman like carpentry and plastering. Got the dreaded hall, stairs and landing to do this summer. Might change my tune after that.
Quick tip, use decent paint (can recommend Valspar V700) as that also makes the experience much better and leaves you with a better finish. Nothing worse than cheap watery or draggy paint that needs 5 coats.

What? That room's literally a painters dream, peace of piss! Literally so easy to do. muddyfunster I generally use Leyland trade which always gives great results, it's just that this chalk based paint was a complete PITA, you stuck the first coat of paint on which barely did anything and then when you went over it 3 seconds later to kind of get a good overall stroke pattern you'd rub off what you'd just done, did about 3 coats like that before the grey finally stopped showing through, she bought it from some poncy shop in town as she liked the colour and they recommended it. Tip, never buy paint from a poncy boutique type homewares shop.

Stick your cooler of beer in the middle of the room and have at it

Get an extension pole for the ceiling don’t drag a chair in there and stand on it like I used to for years.
Also prep the surfaces properly and rub it down like a first date.

Alright you decorating beasts. I'll give it a whirl. All contractors will add 50% to the price if you’ve had a go. Save yourself the money and get them in now. You’re walking a dangerous line here.

Agreed that appears straight forward. From the look of it, you don't have any difficult prep either. No dodgy plaster, holes or cracks to fill, wallpaper or awkward stuff to paint around?
Just get some decent plastic sheets to protect that nice floor.
You honestly can't go that wrong. Worst case you paint over it and wasted more time rather than money.
