It's increasingly feeling like the sort of thing they should have shoveled out alongside the PS5 on release to supplement it. I can already play my PS5 from pretty much every room in the house now if I wanted to, so short of a mind bogglingly good screen or very decent price point it isn't worth it even to me, and I buy any old tat.

Exactly. But there's always the people who will buy anything expensive who are deeply tied to the ecosystem, the whales so you speak. But then look at PSVR 2 and see how that has fared despite it actually being very good tech.

I'd be gobsmacked if it is in any way financially successful. The reported price is ludicrous.
I saw it mentioned that maybe they should ship it with a year of PS+ premium, which is such a no brainer it definitely won't happen.

Yeah, I see it being more of a curio that will gather dust.

It could sit in the garage, next to the PSP I used twice!

It's a strange one as the PSP was massively popular and they really supported the hell out of that, the Vita was exceptional but they couldn't give a shit about it as time went on.

I loved the PSP. It’s the handheld I grew most attached to. Vita was good too, but its scope was more narrow. If Sony released another actual dedicated handheld, I’d buy it, but they don’t seem to believe they can compete in that market anymore.

I still have the Spider-Man 2 PSP movie disc. Definitely a future collectible as a WTF format.

I really liked UMD movies! I remember my dad saw me watching Fist of Legend on it once and actually went and bought himself a PSP just for it. He’d stopped gaming after the NES, so he never played any games on it, but he had a nice little collection of movies he’d watch in bed or on a flight.

Does the handheld market even exist anymore now that the Switch has consolidated it into one thing?

That’s a fair question, but Nintendo has always been successful in that market, even when their home consoles have been unsuccessful. As much as I’d like the next Nintendo platform to be a PS5 competitor, it’d probably sell less units than say, a Steam Deck competitor (which itself is a Switch competitor, but you get what I mean).

It's a shame that that kind of push for something different and experimental technology wise has been lost under the stewardship of Jim Ryan. The 14 first party live service games in development also points to this.

Absolutely shit myself last night, playing FFXVI and all of a sudden the PS5 just immediately shuts down, no warning just a complete black screen. It doesn't let me switch it back on via the controller and the power/eject buttons don't work either.
Left it a couple of minutes with the power supply taken out and it powers on first time after plugging in again.
What the hell was that about?

Had the the exact same thing happen to me a few weeks after I got the PS5. Like yours it was dead in the water until until I cut the power at the plug for a couple of minutes. Was during that brief period Miles Morales was causing some crashes if memory serves. It's been fine ever since, obnoxious coil whine aside (which I really should have sorted).

Highly likely your PSU is caked in dust and overheating if it's doing that (assuming it doesn't turn out to be a one-off).
I had the same issue a couple of weeks ago (was shutting off after about an hour or so like clockwork) and taking a vac to the dust catcher holes seems to have fixed it for now. Although the general consensus seems to be to take the fan off and clear the area directly if it carries on.

There were some complaints about some FFXVI citscene causing system shutdowns (same cutscene in same place and repeatable) for some people. I am well past that bit and had no issues that I noticed (in quality mode which seemed to be more likely to cause the issue) and I am lazy re cleaning the PS5 (albeit it is in an airy, if dusty, area).

I still have my PSP Go and occasionally dust it off for a quick game of FF9. Great piece of kit, but silly money to buy new if I recall.

Will give it a good clear out, I always find the covers such a pain to get on and off though, feels like they'll snap every time.

I mean, it's ludicrous that you're expected to do it at all if you ask me. But it has sorted the issue for me. I've bought a screwdriver off Amazon for the fan in case it happens again. I've seen images online of the problem area and it is not a well thought out design when you see how dust collects over the PSU.

I’m sure this has probably been answered on here already so apologies in advance. Google doesn’t seem to give a definitive answer.
My son has decided that, rather than spend nearly £600 notes on a psvr for my ps5, he wants to buy his own PS5 instead. Which is great as I really don’t think he’d play on the VR much.
So, is there a way for me to share my games on a different ps5? I know technically you can only game share on one console, but could I add my account to his ps5 for example?

As long as they’re all on the same primary account I think you can have as many PS5s as you like. But do you mean by share? If you want to play two player in the same game I don’t think you can.

Sorry, what I mean is I have, for example, fifa 23 downloaded on my ps5. If I set him up as a sub account I think he can access that game on my console. But if he has a separate console he’ll need to pay for his own copy. Unless I can also have my ps plus profile on his console. But I wasn’t sure if you could do that.

Make your account the primary on his console, then get him to sign into his account and play on that. He’ll have access to your library.
You’ll need to have an internet connection active on your console to access your games there on your account.

You set YOUR profile's Primary Console as his new PS5.
From there he can play all the digital games bought on your account and share your PS+ privileges using his own account.
Meanwhile on your console you'll be signed in as you anyway, so able to still play all your stuff etc.
Edit: Derbs beat me to it.

Ok great thanks. I just wasn’t sure if it blocked you adding your account to another ps5 for this reason.
