Shouldn't be surprised after that Elite controller was overpriced too. I know right. I seem to remember the battery life was also terrible for an "elite" controller.

The Edge pad is very good though. It feels more premium and is more versatile than the other high-profile alternatives.
The PSQ, at £300, I can’t see doing well at all. I guess it depends what they expect from it. They do seem to be positioning the PS5 ecosystem as a premium priced product line. The Edge and VR2 have a place but I’m not sure this one does.
They could do with at least including a year of PS+ top tier as a sweetener, but I doubt they’d do that either.

Like I say, if it delivers Wii U-esque magic, I could maybe convince myself while high that it was possibly worth it

I can sort of see why it's going to cost £230, in terms of the required components. A standard DualSense is £60 for a start, then a good screen, necessary internals, R&D, etc. It's more expensive than I expected though.
The problem is £230 is Switch OLED territory, so for similar money you can have a stand-alone console with a fantastic screen and access to a ton of new games.
It renders the PSQ a bit niche, but great for people who get kicked off the main TV and specifically want to play PlayStation games on the sofa, or in bed, or on the shitter... If the streaming works well, of course.

Hard to see it doing well at that price. Steam Deck blows it out of the water for not a lot more. Just needs a slightly more user friendly remote play app than Chiaki.

It doesn’t really though. On pure value, yes, of course. But unless that person plays PC already I’d wager a Steam Deck isn’t even in consideration. A Switch more so, but the PSQ is obviously designed to keep you playing the things you already have access to that you want to play, not give you options of everything else. Most people don’t want everything, they want access to their stuff.

If the streaming works well, of course. Let's put it this way, Geforce Now streaming quality is equivalent to a local experience. PS remote play is terrible even if I'm sitting next to the console, it would have to be a Wii U like experience for it not to be laughed out of town especially with that price.

Sure, or buy this. It’s an option.

If it works using the same sorcery that made vita to ps4 rock stable then it might be worth it. Everything except that has been a bad experience for me.

Finally got one. It's very quiet. Hah! That was my main first impression. Closely followed by “Fuck me, Elden Ring loads quickly”. Noise and speed > Graphics

Still delaying going next gen. My ps4 is struggling though and it's just too loud now. Just don't know if I should now wait for a slim etc which I imagine can't be that far away

At this point it will be more expensive if you wait.

Just don't know if I should now wait for a slim etc which I imagine can't be that far away Honestly it’s worth it. The speed of loading, even on PS4 games, makes a world of difference. I also don’t see Sony or Microsoft releasing a slim or cheaper model any time soon. Well, there’s the Series S, but that doesn’t really count, if you see what I mean.

But when it comes out, to your amazement, it’s actually twice the size of THAT. That is what it is like to get a PS5, the relief you feel, to have that thing out of your body, to flush away your ps4.

Anyone who hasn't upgraded their storage may want to take a look at Amazon, they've got some Crucial SSDs that are incredibly cheap that are PS5 compatible. You'll need to slap a heatsink on but 100 quid for a 2TB one is great value. £55 for a 1TB.

Nice to see SSD prices continue to drop, but always a kick in the nuts if you're an early adopter. The 1TB 980 pro I've got in mine at the moment cost me £190 ages ago!

They really missed a trick not basing their PS5 marketing on this image.

Yeah my 1TB WD one for about 160 quid just before the firmware was officially released was a bargain for the time but now looks less so. I'll upgrade when the 4TB drives drop a bit further.

Yeah, I paid about $250 for the 2TB SSD I installed in my PS5 a couple of years ago, and that was a “cheap” drive vs the Samsung and WD drives that were about $75 more. Last week, I bought a 1TB Samsung for my laptop for $45. Half the capacity but that’s a massive drop in price.

No doubt this will be the PS5 with an optional disc drive attachment.

It's been on the cards for a while, if Sony are sensible they'll pop another USB on the back for the drive to attach without stealing one of the two there, like they did on the PS4 Pro for VR camera use, but who knows? It would add a little bit more expense.

Interested in the drive addition for my Digi PS5 (if they even allow it to work with it), but no doubt I will have to sacrifice my first born to afford it. In which case fuckum

Releasing the Slim and Q at a similar time is slightly cannibalising the ‘second room’ market.

Unless there’s some secret to reveal about the Wii U thing, surely they’re sending it out to die.
