It'll be a remote play device you can use from pretty much anywhere depending on your internet connection between you and your console, I've used remote play now and again since the PS4 days and it works fine for some games but not everything.

Just got an email from PlayStation saying "hey stay at the same level of PS+ and get 25% off", which is nice. You can't drop a tier though and get the discount. I got my PS+ and cheap PS Now sub converted to Premium last year so with the discount it's cheaper to do another year of Premium than ignore it and drop to Extra, presumably next year they'll be doing a similar offer to keep you locked in.
I do make use of the Premium features occasionally and perhaps, I'm not holding my breath on this, they'll actually put a fuckton more older titles on there too?

Apparently Sony have said the Premium tier is the top performing of the three in terms of subscribers
It is not exactly gonna inhibit them from charging ever more for their shit.
Not that I will pay it.
The Show was deffo a Meh for me, but then, I'm a grump. Dragons Dogma II and the Samurai thing, (that nobody can remember the name of) agree, no way the gameplay will be like that, more Ninja Gaiden probably, and much of a muchness for the rest.
Far too many coming to PS5 and in 2024, not much different to Xbox, and no Bloodborne...DICKS!

Phantom Blade 0 (a.k.a. the Samurai thing) was the steal of the show for me. Other than that, I enjoyed seeing Alan Wake 2 and a firm release date (as well as Max Payne's face), Dragon's Dogma 2 (but I need to get on with 1 first), Spider-Man 2 (ditto) and the confirmation of MGS3 remake.
Cannot say I'm too happy with the number of games screaming "online shooter/live service" though...

Yeah, Bungie reveal a new game, YEAH! It's a PvP extraction shooter, BOO! I think both CGI game at the begining of the showcase and Concord, both first party games are live service multiplayer games. It's a bit depressing.

I like extraction shooters and think bungie have the potential to make a brilliant one. It was one of the highlights of the show for me, if they keep it to just guns and no powers then it could do really well.

We have to hope it's more Halo than Destiny PvP.

Gaming really does hold its past in reverence though. I can't imagine there are many big fans of Marathon that will get excited about a PvP (likely) games as a service game. There doesn't seem much reason to use the Marathon franchise for this other than it is an existing name some people may have vaguely heard of.

Just reading the RPS article on the Phantom Blade game and this sounds slightly worrying
"What's most interesting, perhaps, is how the studio's mobile game history might feed into the Phantom Blade Zero's speedy combat. 'We learned to simplify things in favour of touch screens, giving players a way to execute elaborate chains of moves with a minimum amount of button-mashing', Liang says. 'As it turns out, with some tweaks, this mechanism works just as well on controllers.'"

So, I tried to use my quite expensive earbuds with PS5 but it was a no go. They announce their own brand that specifically work with PS5 (not sure if they work with other devices).
I kinda hoped for better considering the whole SSD situation, but corporates going to corporate.
But the only thing I took from that show, was mostly, here's the same with a few bells and whistles, nothing really screamed at me that I MUST play something.
It's a a shame, but I really do think Sony knocked it out of the park the last gen in terms of IP, so I really hope they have more up their sleeve. Especially as Xbox is a barren wasteland of nothingness.

Such an open net to make Factions 2 but everybody has just GOT to chase that same tired old fucking Games as a Service template.

I could be wrong, as I don't know anything about the mode this was based on, but was anyone really asking for a multiplayer Naughty Dog game? They are loved for their single player storytelling.
Judging by the Showcase the other day, looks like Sony could do with some more first party single player stuff. I wouldn't be surprised if they have been told to put the multiplayer game on indefinite hold so that they could work on filling that gap. I assume that they are in the middle of working on more single player, be that another Uncharted, Last of Us or something else, and I expect more people would be excited to hear about that.

If it turns out to be The Division/TLoU crossover I'm all for it to take as long as it needs.

Well gameplay wise TD/TLoU I mean not actually The Division itself, the concept art certainly suggests something of that scale.

It was so effortlessly brilliant and it launched almost silently.
Classic case of overthinking something that was pretty much perfect already.

I'm still interested in this but price wise it has to make sense for what's on offer. Realistically it's not something I'd play for longer than 4 hours consecutively anyway but all these things have to be taken into consideration with what they are asking for it. If it's much more than say £100, forget it.

If it's much more than say £100, forget it. True. Honestly I can't see it being sold for under 100 quid because a pad is already 70 quid and the addition of a screen will bump that price even more. I would have rather they concentrated spending all those resources on improving the remote play function that already exists and is shoddy as fuck.

If it’s literally just a screen and joypad that connects to the PS5 with remote play then its only advantage over using a phone or tablet is convenience. It just seems such a niche use case. I don’t really get it.

I mean there is that backbone thing for phones. I don't really like playing on my phone as I need a bit of a bigger screen. I am aware I'm probably one of like 7 people interested though, it's super niche.

If it really is like the wii u in that it does some sorcery to make it a lag free ‘as on console’ experience, then I would think about it. Otherwise, yeah, I’ve never really been tempted even when the razer kishi was on offer for 40 quid last Black Friday.

Yes remote play is very hit and miss and also often clunky to set up, so if it does have a way of making an easy and strong connection then I’d probably consider it.
But by a similar token if it’s just normal remote play then it’s almost pointless.
