It will surely be perfect in that regard or it's absolutely pointless.
I used to play quite a bit of PS4 through the Vita over WiFi and I found that to be almost faultless. This will have to get rid of the almost to be worth it.

If it’s literally just a screen and joypad that connects to the PS5 with remote play then its only advantage over using a phone or tablet is convenience. It just seems such a niche use case. I don’t really get it. In my experience remote play on phones sucks if you want to use a controller because the button mapping is absolute shite for some reason and as far as I could find there's no way to change it (maybe you could if you didn't mind the changes also taking effect when playing on the actual console, it's been a while). I'm talking "O is X and X does nothing" levels. This on PS5 btw. If they actually changed that with the new device it would be very nice, but not quite a selling point on its own. Plus I don't have much faith that they would after remote play didn't have such fixes...

I think it’s a test platform to get real world data for wifi direct streaming. If it works out I can see them making a wireless PSVR2.

Really? I got into the Vita extremely late (COVID lockdown times) so I have no idea what people's experiences were like. I used to play a lot of Fall Guys from my desk when I was WFH and it wasn't bad at all from what I remember.

One thing I used Remote Play for was doing dailies in The Division on a not great tablet and a DS4 when away from home and that worked fine but as you can still do that the Q would have to be pretty great on the value prospect, which it won't be, to get me to pick one up.
However I don't really recommend doing is using a phone and touch controls to get your 26 miles in on GT7 even on a loop like Daytona it's painful with a great internet connection.

Vita to PS4 remote play was great for me (I’d still use it if it worked on PS5 still), on any other device it was horrendous. I’m willing to bet there’ll be some type of direct Wi-Fi on this thing, otherwise yeah, there’s absolutely no point.

I've only just twigged that the metal gear solid collection coming out in autumn is going to be the original versions of those games. So no MGS 2 substance or MGS 3 Subsistence with no 3rd person camera. That's err not great.

If the development of the Project Q thing leads to improvements in the PS streaming software generally, that could be a benefit to the people who still just want to use their phone and a Backbone or something....here's hoping.

It's confirmed that the collection will come with Metal Gear 1+2 which were built into subsistence, so it will almost certainly be the 3D camera version.

Oh in fact Playstation have just posted on social media that both games are from the HD Collection version from PS3/XB360, so it's the full fat versions of both

I have it via back compatibility on my Series X and think it's MGS2+3 along with Peace Walker.

It indeed didn't have MGS1, the post specifically says MGS2 and MGS3 are the versions from the HD editions though. So all the VR stuff in MGS2 and the 3D camera and old MG titles in MGS3.

I dunno, that feels like it might have been worth mentioning at the massive playstation jamboree they had last week.

For sure they're utterly bizarre.
But they had no time. They had to show /checks notes...the Gran Turismo movie trailer instead.

Seems fairly logical that a “future of PS” show wouldn’t have a trailer for a year+ old title appearing on a different platform. The GT trailer was a little misplaced but it makes more sense from a promo perspective as it likely has some crossover to the audience.
Better have this via a tweet than waste space in that.
Surprised they didn’t have a Spider-verse trailer though.

Yeah. A future of PS showcase mentioning a key strategic release in the near future would be kind of weird.

I dunno if this info will be of use to anyone, but as part of their closing down clear out, GameStop now have 5% off hardware, including PSVR 2 and PS5s.
Obviously it goes without saying, buying from a company that will be closing in June will make hardware issues more complicated to resolve, so beware

Yeah. A future of PS showcase mentioning a key strategic release in the near future would be kind of weird. Not weird, no. I would assume the audience was basically pS5 users rather than PC though, so the traction of a press release versus show space and resulting press release would be the same.

Feels like ‘we are still taking the PC very seriously by releasing this AAA game’ is an important message to get out there but you know best.

So I obviously imagined the Spiderman Remastered PC trailer at Sony's State of Play last year for a /checks notes...4 year old game?

To be fair if I'd seen a PC release of a PS game during a PS showcase I would be a bit confused. Then again, there was a film and loads of non-exclusive games shown anyway and... I don't know. Maybe Jim just picked the line up out a great big hat?

Plus I'm pretty sure they did the old, "Footage captured on PC" thing for at least one of the games in last week's showcase.
