We were having a chat last night about school and I was regailing him with some of the stuff I used to get up to (glossing over the finer details naturally) and he goes "how did you actually make it through life".
Didn't know how to respond to that. I had to concede the point. He works ten times harder at school than I did. I'm adamant he's not repeating my fuck ups, as is he! That was one of the reasons I grabbed him the game. Got a print out of all his merits in the first term alone and the list was massive. He's got a great work ethic.

Aww, that's great though, even if he's learning from your "mistakes". I'm pretty sure our lass takes entirely after her mother. 😁

My lad is a typical boy really. Smart as fuck but lazy, so does the bare minimum. If he applied himself, he ace everything. He'll still do well, mostly as he has an almost photographic memory. Whereas I was/am a bit lazy without his smarts!

My trouble was that I never had to study, always did great in tests and exams so spent most of my time fucking about. That attitude followed me through all my various uni and college courses and only now, many years too late, do I realise how fleeting it all is and try to do fifty million things a day to make up for not doing enough when I was younger. If I can impart a little of that to him, then he'll do better than me. Out of school he's not great (and my god does fuck all to help around the house no matter how many times I get on at him - but hey, that's pretty normal) but in school, where it counts, thankfully he's killing it. So far.
Anyway. This isn't my fucking blog. So I'll shut up.

wuntyYou seem to have been in a similar position to me at school. I did very little revision and came out with decent grades but realised too late that if I had applied myself just a bit more, I could have got excellent grades. My son has highers (A-levels) in 2-3 months. He is intelligent but really struggled in his pre-lims, mostly due to being a very slow and untidy writer so he didn't manage to finish a lot of this papers. Fortunately he has been told he can use a laptop for his exams as he is a lot quicker typing. I'm just trying to get him to do as much revision and mock tests as possible but it is not easy. Everyone studies or learns at various different times in life. My daughter has about 7 highers, 3 advanced highers, all A's except one B. Smart, intelligent and never had to push her to do work. Just so different in their approach to school. Her room is an absolute pit though, I keep telling her she is going to end up a baglady/hoarder.

Played through that Humanity demo There's a good few levels and you get to create and share your own too which is nice. Puzzles felt pretty satisfying to solve so I'm intrigued to see how the final game ends up.

That's like us, eldest "not very academic", dyslexia, lazy, middle daughter straight As without seeming to try. Youngest is a mixture Looking at what I ended up with from school, it's not too different from my eldest, but if I got that today, I wouldn't get into the course I did at Uni. I don't envy kids these days, they are under a lot more pressure to perform. I think the whole exam factory has to be re-examined. Other than ranking for entry into Universities, I'm not sure it's fit for purpose.

I resubbed to PS+ but upgraded to Extra as they offered me 35% off. I had PSN cards from a work reward, so didn't cost me anything. Christ, that's a terrible line up.

Do you think? It's not as broad as Game Pass obviously, by a long stretch, but it arguably has more quality. Mine's about to run out and I'm considering resubbing tbh even though I also have another year of GP to go. The worst thing about it is how difficult it is to work out what you get - maybe you're not seeing the full list?

I think Premium is a waste but Extra is decent, IMO. Even with almost 500 games between PS4 and 5, there's still a list of stuff in the Extra tier that I'm interested to play when time permits (never).

It depends entirely on how long youve been a playstation owner. When I subbed, literally the only 'premium' game on the line up I didnt own was Ghost of Tsushima. Almost everything else I wanted to play was locked behind the 'extra' tier despite being playable on the PS4 previously.
Game Pass is leagues ahead in terms of depth and breadth.

I did only have a quick look, but sorting by release date didn't bring a huge amount of joy (other than games I already own - and have not played, obviously). I'll.have to have a proper look through.

Game Pass has many more recent releases, absolutely. MS are pretty aggressive in adding new content all the time.

Yeah, I mean it does depend a lot on whether you've already bought the big recent PS exclusives. I hadn't generally so it worked out pretty well for me.

I've used PS+ loads and so I resubbed, although I also though the difference between Extra and Premium wasn't worth it for the 2nd year.
Gamepass might be great, but it'd require me to buy an Xbox, so moot point.

I'm just not trying hard enough, letting the side down, etc. I have got a Windows PC (Intel NUC Skull Canyon), but as soon as you start Steam on it, it basically shits itself. SFF gaming platform, my arse.

Battlefield 2042, Minecraft Dungeons, and Code Vein are the next ps+ titles apparently.
Wondering if 2042 has improved since launch.

2042 is pretty good now. The classes updated has improved the flow of matches massively and the new maps are significantly better than the originals. The revamped versions are an improvement, although still not as good as the new ones.
It still has an identity problem, with not much character and is a bit bland, but definitely a big improvement on what it was. Worth playing if you like the series.

Sony are a bit rubbish at updating the web store with PS+ titles. Checked a couple of times yesterday and as usual the monthly games page still showed the previous month's ones.

That's if you can actually find them - takes me around 30 seconds each month just to find out where they are on the website since the Essential/Extra/Premium makeover.
