My boy made me a cute video listing all the things he liked about me (and one thing he didn't) and then it took a dark turn when he whipped out a toy chainsaw and screamed GOOD LUCK WITH THE CHAINSAW!!
Agree I expect nothing on fathers day, if anything I tend to make the effort to do something nice for him.

Well my son did leave me some presents in the bath the other day. Took me a while to sieve them all out.

My 10yro took great delight in wording it "Farthers Day" in the card, with a cheeky glint in her eye proclaiming that's how she thought it was spelt.
She proved later on during the day that it was accurate.

Some big unexpected lols on this new page. Yes Shark, that’s what I was kind of getting at at the start of my TLDR response (sorry I am what I am). So it seems like there isn’t parity, but that your other half is just not much of a cook. Maybe just chalk that up to personality differences on top of the teething fatigue, I’m sure she has plenty of other stuff to offer and it was just a bad day. However as I have demonstrated earlier in the thread I know what it is to fixate on a feels issue so I get that side even if objectively I don’t see much in it.

Entering the final 5 weeks of playground pickups, after 7 long, arduous years of trying to make small-talk day in day out with other parents. Our daughter goes into year 4 in Sept and they're allowed to walk out of the school grounds themselves to meet us. I'm quite a sociable guy but I think it all so tedious, these days I attempt to arrive on the dot of them coming out but I often get caught by someone on the walk in, or they come out late etc. I don't know how people with 3+ kids do it, you could be hitting 10+ years of it by the end. Roll the fuck on Sept!

Yep, same here - although my youngest is going up to Secondary school and Year 7. Despite also being able to get herself to school from Year 4, she has resisted.

I never really talk to anybody at drop off or pick up. I say hi, but that's about it. Never felt much more pressure tbh. Everybody wants to be in and out as quick as possible!

Roll the fuck on Sept! My eldest was born when I was 31, my youngest will leave school when I am 68, so I will have had children of school age for a total of 34 years. My strategy for dealing with this is to fuck off to a completely other country for work every week and leave it to their mum to do the school run.

I chat to several of the other dads on the school run - there’s a decent number of us who either work from home some days, or have wives who work early shifts, so it’s not just mum central at 9am. Anyway the mums started going out together for drinks, meals, even an escape room. And we were like “Why should they get all the fun?”. So long story short, that’s why I was at Clip & Climb last Friday evening with a bunch of other 35-44 year old blokes. (It was great! Next time we’re thinking escape room)

I did my last ever school run on Friday, dropping the girl off in the morning for her last GCSE exam. As much as I used to complain theatrically about it, I will miss it.

Ours now wants to walk home with her mates every afternoon unless the weather is shitty. I did used to welcome it as a break from the desk whilst working from home…and realistically the most conversation I’d get out of her all day 😂
I miss it too. It used to be nice doing drop offs at primary, we still do this in the morning at high school to make sure she is in on time and problem free, but she is…not as good in the mornings as when she was smaller and cuter 😂

I love school drop-offs, I will definitely miss those when the day comes in 3 years time. School is about 7 min walk from our house so it's a really nice chilled stroll with the kids, then I usually go on a 30 min walk with an audiobook before getting home to start work. Lovely way to start the day, I'll definitely keep the morning walks going even if I won't have the kids with me for the first bit ( ![:(](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/sad.png) ) .

Just happened to notice my data usage on my phone. 'Current period: 1.65 TB' - blimey that seems a lot - 'Apps by usage - Personal Hotspot: 1.48 TB' ...
Naming no names, pointing no fingers, but this belongs in this thread

Ha, we had a spot where she would manually switch off WiFi out of the house and then forget to turn it back on. That racked it up. Anybody in an area they provide, Sky mobile enables you to donate your data within a family plan. I use absolutely trivial amounts.

For some reason, the kids' ipads stay tethered to my phone when we get back home instead of automatically flipping to the home wifi, meaning I have to remember to disconnect them manually, which I don't always, so that definitely doesn't help.

I hate school drop offs and pickups. The other kids that seem to run around in circles screaming on the path, the kids on scooters that try to go through you, the parents that randomly stop on the path blocking it for everyone, the parents that double park where kids are supposed to cross the road, the parents that park on the pavement, the people with yappy dogs (my kids are terrified of all dogs). I only have to do it once a week thankfully, the rest they go to breakfast/afterschool club so it’s deserted then.

And even the other kids are pretty cool and you can usually get a decent bit of chat out of them. We set up a dads football team at covid for a kickabout at the local park. It’s still going and most of the players have kids at the 2 local schools so there’s always chat with that and new players coming in too. Love it.

Our safer streets parent group managed to piss off the local councillor enough the council sends a traffic warden every morning who is ready to ticket any body not parking correctly!!!

I still love school drop offs with mine. It’s a perfect time for a natter with them both. When the boy was still in nursery and the girl at school, I’d get a 20m walk with both of them and then a 30m stroll with my daughter. I loved it and still miss that.
But then mine are five / nearly six and eight so still cute.

Very much aware that I’m in the tail end of the golden years. My daughter, god love her, is already trialling the “You’ve ruined my life” and I’m eagerly awaiting the “I didn’t ask to be born!!!”.
