But yeah, check for proper little ones.

You can take them at the same time cuz they have different ingredients and do different things, you don’t need to space them out. Paracetamol is good for getting temps down with ibuprofen on top for the muscle cramps and whatnot. Leapfrogged mostly to ensure there's something in their system for as long as possible really.

Yeah one every couple of hours works well, if they are old enough. But I feel for you, it’s tough when the little ones aren’t well.

Speaking of which, our youngest (3) has been unwell since Thursday. Dr thinks she has something called Mesenteric adenitis, which is essentially the swelling of the lymph nodes in the stomach which is triggered by colds and viral infections. So essentially when she gets a cold she also gets really bad stomach pain and vomiting, usually for a number of days. She’s been in so much pain today, the poor thing. You just feel helpless sometimes, all you can do is try to comfort them

Ah man, that sounds rough as. Good to have something to pin it on I guess, even if it doesn't change much.

Taking her back to the dr today as she seems to be getting worse. So checking it’s not something more sinister.

Proud of the boy after this weekend. Rowing regatta and he took part in both days. Racing in a quad on Sat and a double yesterday. 4.5 km each time. Nasty head wind yesterday as well and he was already shattered from the day before. He's been rowing a year and four months now and absolutely loves it. So much so that I just blew some savings on a concept 2 so he can train in the house. I'm fucked and all I was doing was marshalling (it did involve about 40km of cycling to be fair), so I think he's absolutely wiped this morning. So damn proud though as he works really hard at this and was great to see him taking part in the youngest age category. Considering there are GB athletes that partake in this, it's really intimidating.

Thanks man. I'm definitely not as fit as I was... he definitely had the harder job though! What a happy boy he was after. haven't seen him that chuffed with himself for a LONG time. Was amazing to see.
All the best with the doc for today. Keep us posted.

His kids will likely be at those too, so it's not all cushy trips abroad! 😉

Funny you should say that. I feel like a right fucking pleb when I’m at the club. All the parents are doctors, pilots, high powered execs. Then there’s me. All very nice people mind you, but enough to give me a complex if I let it.

Our neice has just been transferred to Freeman Hospital in Newcastle.
About 8 weeks ago, she came down with what we thought was a bad chest infection, my other half was looking after he whilst parents were at work, she wasn't happy with her breathing, she was lethargic and really struggling, she's a health visitor so generally knows certain signs to look for. Ended up back and forth there for the next week as they suspected a virus.
Then all of a sudden the doctors said it's heart failure, she's got something wrong with one of the ventricules causing undue stress, believed to have been since birth and the heart has had enough.
She had something called a Berlin heart fitted a few weeks ago which is a more compact way of doing what the heart cannot but it looks very likely she will need a heart transplant, when they opened her up the heart stopped and the surgeon said he had to massage it to kick-start it again. Family are obviously in shock, she's only 18 months.

Bloody hell. Puts things into perspective. Really hope things work out. On my far more trivial problem, Dr thinks it might actually be a urine infection. Got some antibiotics, which we managed to get in her and she immediately threw up She just can't keep anything down at the moment. Hopefully we can get some in her before bed and she will sleep a while the antibiotics start to work. She's just in so much pain

She keeping nothing down. Last 24 hours have been really bad. Which sucks as it started on Thursday. She was ok Friday, but has gradually gotten worse since then. Poor little thing.
Worried about her getting dehydrated now as she just bringing up all of her water. I’m hoping a decent sleep will help but no doubt she’ll wake up in pain all night. Just don’t know what do really other than wait it out and hope she doesn’t get too bad.

My little one suffered heart failure a couple times when she was 2/3 months. Didn’t help them using the term without explaining it. Hopefully you’ll get a heart soon and she will be on the mend. In the meantime she is surely in the best place possible. Chin up dude

RobEG look back a few pages, Hedben (I think) posted some good advice on how to rehydrate kids... amounts will need adjusting due to age (must be something somewhere online that sets this out) but essentially it's v small amounts (like 2.5-5ml) regularly.

My middle child (12yo) got a sickness bug while we were on a break with the extended family in the middle of nowhere. He couldn’t keep anything down for 18 hours straight. By hour 12 we were really concerned about dehydration, he had all the signs. Fortunately we had a GP (sister-in-law) and nurse (his mum) with us, so we knew what 111 would tell us to do and did it anyway. I had to sit with a cup of water and a kids 5ml medicine syringe and give him 10ml of water every 10 minutes. Then when he wasn’t sick for an hour, upped it to 15ml, then finally 20ml/20mins. Had to stay up all night doing it, and keep waking him up, but it worked and probably avoided a long drive to A&E Ah, only one page over!

Yeah I’ll see if I can get a ‘dosage’ for a 3 year old. And a tiny 3 year old at that!
She’s stubborn as a mule though and will only drink from her skippy cup. I guess if she can argue about that she probably isn’t dehydrated yet!
Thanks!

Hope it goes ok tonight RobEG , sounds awful and it’s so hard when they’re that young and don’t understand why it’s happening. I couldn’t confirm the recommended amount for a 3 year old, there’s loads of different advice from a quick Google but basically it’s little and often rather than large amounts all at once. Also Dioralyte (or similar) is suitable for over 2’s if you can get some.

She seems slightly better in herself this morning, a bit more chatty. So I guess that’s a good sign even if she is still not holding anything down. Got another dose of AB in her, hopefully she can hold it down long enough for it to be absorbed.
Feel like I haven’t slept for about a week!
