That's what being a parent is all about.
Until they get to the age where Disney+ is great value

As a parent to 14, 11 and 6 year olds, the hierarchy is:
Netflix Disney Prime Video Now TV Movies
YouTube Kids is free anyway, but if it wasn’t, Kid 3 would put it right at the top

Amazon definitely at the bottom here. They barely know it exists as a "free" streaming service.

Amazon does have a lot of good stuff for young kids but the ability to find anything is shit. Netflix and Disney are easily the best overall.

I’m currently proud of my kids (5 and 3) and their taste in music. They like some trashy pop music but so far they’ll happily dance along or listen to anything of mine I put on.
There’s enough variation in what I listen to that I’m hoping they’ll maintain some common ground even as they get older and have proper opinions.

Yeah in my experience they’ll listen to anything at that age- it’s when they start noticing what their friends are into that it locks down, and suddenly anything Dad likes is lame.

I’ve got ecosse’s favourites as a playlist ready for them to rebel against, hopefully it’ll steer them back on track.

I had this happen to me quite recently. Still hurts. Then a few of his new friend group started getting into rock/indie so he showed them some of the stuff I raised him on which they really liked, for "old music" anyway (2002-2005!) I was both appalled and proud.

There's good indie/rock from 2002-2005?!
(mine are raised on good old 80s and 90s bangers.)

Two albums that spring to mind are Interpol's Turn on the Bright Lights and QOTSA's Songs for the Deaf so I'd say yeah!

Fair! I was being a bit facetious really.
My 12 year old started listening to Eminem. Cos his mates were. He's not that big into music yet though. 9 year old daughter is, and flips between genres - Disney pop to rock - quite quickly. She's definitely going to go through a goth phase too

5 yr old son has been coughing loads at night for two weeks now and it's getting extremely tiring. I think it's just back-to-back colds, seems to be caused by snot as he also has a very runny nose, but he is otherwise fine and doesn't seem to be affected by running about. Internet says to go to the doctor if it carries on for 3 weeks. Could it be the pollen? Don't really know what I hope to learn from posting this, but has anyone had a similar experience? Could really do with getting more than 5 hours of sleep a night. Also, how the hell do we stop him sucking his thumb? He treats his head like a bowling ball with a thumb in his mouth and a finger up each nostril. Idiot.

Post- nasal drip that bothers him when lying down? Not the covids?

As for thumb sucking, I wouldn't worry. He'll grow out of it. If you do want to stop it, the nail lotion that tastes horrible works.

The girl just listens to video game music because she is blossoming into quite the nerd. The wife doesnt listen to any music and I listen to things that no teenager is going to listen to, really, so its not a massive surprise.
One of her friends is *massively* into MCR, which I found quite surprising. I say surprising, its evergreen sad girl music but its the first non-contemprary band ive heard any of them get into.

No kids myself but those symptoms sound a lot like something I suffered with as a kid for a while - Rhinitis. www.nhs.uk/conditions/allergic-rhinitis/No advice on sucking the thumb unfortunately!

Thanks, could be Covid, should do a test really. Could also be the allergy thing, although he hasn’t suffered up to this point. A kid coughing at night is the worst.

Cheers. Got one of those, not sure it made any difference to be honest, although he did like the smell. It has improved since this time last week so hopefully it’s just a cold.

Bummer. We put it on an hour before bed, keep the door and window shut and get her in quick.
Hope you get it sorted soon

My 14 year old is into Jacko (no, not some cool indie band, but the OG kiddie fiddler).
As a Prince die-hard this pains me.
I have failed.

We swear by the diffuser thing but probably not ideal in this weather sadly.

I stopped my daughter going to one of her friends house because her mum was such a big Michael Jackson. The girl had a big MJ poster at the foot of her bed and, apparently, said 'this is Michael Jackson. He watches over us from heaven'. You dont get much worse vibes than that from a playdate.

Our little one starts Nursery in the new year. Mat pay is shocking and I wasn't really prepared for the cost of Nursery at £53 a day. She will be in 4 days a week and we will rely on grandparents for some weekend child care while at work.
The Mrs will return to work full time as the alternative is part time with a £5.5k loss on a £20k salary. Part time still involved working 5 days over 7 so it didn't make much financial sense. I work full time 4 on 4 off so some weeks she wouldn't need to be in Nursery and at other times the grandparents wont be needed. Still expected to pay the Nursery fees if I didn't take her in though so cant cut costs that way by the sounds of it.
Almost better if one of us didn't work but then the little one will suffer with not having any kids to interact with.

Yeah 3 days of nursery a week was more than my mortgage payments which is mad. Just do what you can afford, it’s better for your kid in the long run.

Better for careers (and sanity) too. Tough for those few years until the free childcare kicks in, no doubt.

Nursery fees are brutal nitrous, but 'free' time kicks in eventually now, so not as bad overall.
Costs a fortune, but i think it helped our lad be really sociable. Until his teens anyway! 😉

Nursery schools are a scam, I get that most people these days work and need full time child care but fuck don't they take advantage of that. Far better to fob them off on the grand parents if you can which again is not always possible.
