One of ours suffers from anxiety, it does sound like that.

My friends lad in year six is going through pretty much the same thing. They similarly tried everything and ended up going down the hardcore reward chart bribery route.
They didnt want to reward him for doing stuff his brother does every day without issue, so hes working towards 'family' prizes. And when I say hardcore, he is on course for a Series X for the living room by the end of term.
Apparently the 'doing it for the fam' thing is working as the brother is now his biggest 'you can do it bro!' cheerleader.

Yeah it does seem as though it's one of these things that can happen. Just caught us quite unaware as I suppose if this kind of thing were to happen we thought theere would be more of an obvious trigger (as if impending high school isn't, but he was adamant it wasn't that for so long - I do think it is that, but it's also tied in to how he is feeling about himself as well I think).

I know you said your lad was struggling with team sports the same as ours was post-covid wunty. Whether it was some form of social or performance anxiety we still don't really know as he was never rally willing to open up about it, but he did become a bit of a social recluse despite mates asking him to come out & do stuff.
Our lad is still not right, but recently seems to actually be going out again and socialising with his mates and actively enjoying it. Which is progress and great to see- hopefully that'll continue over the summer holidays. A few of his year mates also seem to have had similar-ish issues- Covid hit just as they moved to S1 at the academy, so i do think some of it is a confidence issue with the timing of the move from primary to secondary.
Just hope it all works out in the end. The transition days work really well, so i do hope that they will help your lad get over any underlying fears of the move to the 'big' school. Certain people at our lads school who were thought to be more likely to struggle to settle in got more time there to get used to it, so there's always that option too.

So it’s early - and I’m braced for disappointment… but the missus is pregnant.
We weren’t not trying. But I figured at our ripe old ages it would take a bit longer and I’d get a bit more sex out if it. It’s the one time I didn’t want a hole in one.
Anyway. Shit. A baby. And then a snot monster. And then whatever the hell they evolve into after that. Jesus how did you all survive?

Just when you get past all the lost sleep you get the joy of tummy bugs. Ours is now on Day 3 off occasionally throwing up, seems to almost be done now.
At least in the warm weather my car should dry out after they threw up in there.

The first six months are among the worst things ever. The next milestone after that is when they learn to turn on the tv and make breakfast for themselves.

My boy went from not wanting to go to school at the start of the week and weeks previous, to now getting into the shower without being shouted at, getting all spruced up, stuff ready and being very chatty and happy about going in. This is after also getting his mum to take him up for new deodorant, shower stuff, hair stuff etc yesterday, and now he's being an all round completely different boy.
Crazy. I'm presuming he's now just an alien doppelganger and he'll be coming for my brain at some point while I sleep?

See that's what I thought but he's catagorically denied it. There was a girl in his class interested in him for years but I think she's lost interest now as he declared her to be "incredibly annoying". Daft sod.

Whatever it is, I love this version of him. Hope that means he's in a better place just now, he deserves it. Like his mum and dad, he's prone to over thinking and constantly judging himself too harshly.

My lad goes through peaks and troughs. Always has done. We'll get a month Orr two where he's sweetness and light, the next couple where he's acting up and is a massive pain. Always put it down to growth spurts, as when he's on one, he just eats and eats without gaining weight.

Aye the boy is definitely on a growth spurt just now. He's an eating machine.
Bit worried as he's REALLY gaining on me. I tell him to stop growing but he just won't fucking listen.

The first six months are among the worst things ever. The next milestone after that is when they learn to turn on the tv and make breakfast for themselves. When’s that? Mine has no idea how to operate the TV and she’s 5. Admittedly using AppleTV is a lot more complicated than turning a tv on was in our youth but I want her to do it soon.

I know they are crying, moaning fuckers at that stage in life. But, it doesn't half go quick. Oh, and take more pics/videos than you think are necessary. You can't have too many memories. X

Kids are with me this weekend. I'm vaguely annoyed I've got to take one to his mate's and the other one to a party.
6yo came in for a cuddle this morning, which would've been lovely if it weren't before 6am...
