Got to go speak with the GP next week but the results that have comeback so far look encouraging.

Crossing my fingers for the best results possible!

Not a doctor and all that, but my rule of thumb has always been that if it was anything scary, you would be seeing the consultants, not the GP. Certainly the anecdotal experiences of people I have known who have had results sent off.

Hope the results are good Simple. My neighbour has just had a cancer taken off his arm and my father is just waiting to see what the situation with him is. They have him scheduled for an MRI as he's bleeing inside and they are not sure where and it might be the return of a cancer. However, you have to keep positive until told otherwise, as there is nothing you can do either way. Good luck.

My boss was meant to start his immunotherapy today for his liver cancer but after suffering severe abdominal pains at the weekend, has been in hospital since then. They are very non commital about what's causing the pain but the doc he saw last night (I was there with him) said that the immunotherapy should help and the pain is directly related to the cancer. Different from two days prior when the hospital told him it was his pancreas that was the problem, now they are saying it's not. So much not knowing. Troublingly they have now put his treatment back into next week but are trying to postpone it further, which I don't understand considering we were told it would help.

Best of luck, simple - keeping everything crossed and/or tied in knots for some positive news. Sorry to hear that, @wuntyate - as you say, postponing the treatment doesn't make a great deal of sense on the face of it. Hopefully it'll happen soon, and the benefits will quickly become apparent.

It’s good that they let you know either way. I’ve had a couple times where they told me “we’ll call you if it’s bad news, if you don’t hear from us it means the results were normal”. Err yeah, let me freak out every time the phone rings for a week or two.

I fucking hate bumping this thread.
One of my oldest friends died on Sunday night, prostrate cancer.
Felt unwell, did the typical man thing of waiting it out. Eventually went to the GP and was sent for tests. Told he had it last Wednesday, admitted to hospital for treatment and never came home. First any of us heard about it was his Mrs letting us know he is gone.
51, with four kids.
I am sad.
Fuck cancer some more.

dogbotHoly shit that was fast. So sorry man. That's horrible. Just shows you can't sleep on this shit. The slightest thing you feel isn't right with your body, get it checked out, no matter how minor you think it is. So sad.

@wuntyate very. I don't have all the information, but I assume that he was sick for a while and put it off.
And yeah. Get yourself checked out if you're unwell for more than a few days lads.
We ain't indestructible kids any more.
Thanks, everyone. I'm ok. Just a bit numb. It's a lot to take in.

That's fucking horrible, I'm sorry to hear man. I will use this as the opportunity to beat the drum if any of you guys sense anything wrong with your body health-wise then get it checked out. I can't stress this enough. We really need to move out of this mindset of hoping it will just go away, or you're too busy, or you're being soft. Get yourself checked out.

I started a new job a couple of weeks ago and the first optional benefit I added was a thorough health check up including cancer checks. Look after yourselves.

Apologies for bumping the thread.
My uncle died of cancer one year ago today. At the time, I still felt like a newcomer to Font Geek, and it seemed wrong to broadcast my grief herein - almost as though I was hijacking a discussion to which I had no business contributing, if that makes any sense at all.
Anyway, I'm now about as comfortable here as a perennial misfit is ever going to feel anywhere, so I thought I'd type out a few sentences.
Echoing what others have said about the importance of getting yourselves checked, he got one of those poop test things in the post, and didn't do it for one reason or another. Maybe it would've made a difference, and maybe not, but he ended up being diagnosed with bowel cancer all the same.
What followed was a cavalcade of terribleness: radiotherapy, chemotherapy, surgery, a month in hospital, a stoma, an infection, follow-up scans and appointments... you name it.
All throughout, he faced it with a degree of stoicism that blew my mind. I never heard him complain, not once.
Eventually, secondary tumours appeared in his lungs. They remained static for a long time, but when they reached a certain size, the decision was taken to restart chemo... and then COVID hit. His treatment was paused, as they thought he was more at risk from the virus than the cancer; when it finally resumed, scans showed that the lesions had grown too much in the meantime, and chemo was no longer going to be effective.
Anyway, he was a lovely guy - one of the nicest you could ever hope to meet, in fact - and I miss him, as do my mum, aunt, and cousins. Gone, but by no means forgotten.
