I hadn't been into this thread, so I wasn't aware of spacein_vader's (Chris') situation. Very sad to hear about it as he was always really nice and positive, both on here and also back on the RPS forums.
Very sorry for your loss. He will be missed.

I.. I only read through this thread because of the sticky on the front page, I've no business being here otherwise. I had absolutely no idea. The guy helped me set up a Raspberry Pi a few weeks ago.
Oh my God what a horrible surprise. I'm so sorry

Just repeating what everyone said here - a top bloke and one of the few people on the forum who was universally liked.
He'll genuinely be missed around these parts, so sorry for your loss.

Kate, hoping you and the girls can take any small comfort from the strength and integrity Chris had shown us all here during his fight.
Clearly from the responses here, both today and in the coming days, Chris has touched us all and if we can take some of his strength into the fights no doubt many of us will face with this insideous disease then, well, we will all thank him for it.
Thinking of you all.

Ah fuck, that is awful news. I always admired how he took everything with good humour and how he battled through what must have been horrendous times.
All the best to you and your family through this difficult period.

I'm sorry for your loss. People show their true character when faced with the worst of circumstances and the courage and strength we saw from Chris showed him to be one of the best.

Shit news.
I'm glad I coaxed him (and all else who came with him from RPS) along here to carry on having a little escape from his realities. Proper nice guy. Rest easy.

Only just seen the update from you Kate, I'm not sure that you'll be back to check for further messages but I just wanted to say thank you for updating us all - it's strange how much you can feel like you know someone on the internet having never actually met.
Chris was an inspiration, we could all tell just how much his family meant to him, and the impression he leaves behind to his girls was obviously very important. He clearly adored you all, and I'm sure his daughters are very proud to have had him as their dad. I know these are just words from an internet stranger, but if I ever have to deal with anything as awful with my family if I can do it with half as much clarity, care, love and perseverance as Chris then I would be proud.
I wish you and your daughters all the very best.

I feel guilty about bumping this. 😞
My father in law has had a relapse and been taken into hospital this week. They discovered an internal haemorrhage and did an emergency operation to stop the bleeding and found a pair of huge, malignant tumours in his abdomen. He can't have any food or even liquid because it might cause something to rupture, so it sounds like he doesn't have very long left.
The family have been told but he's sedated post-op and doesn't know.
Mrs Dogbot lost her mum to Cancer when she was 18, now her dad. And she's torn between grief and having to decide whether she wants to try and rush out to Caribean now and maybe see him one last time or waiting for his funeral. Heartbreaking.
Fuck cancer indeed.

I would try getting over there as you never get another chance. When my mum was in hospital and we knew she wouldn't be coming back I was supposed to go early in the morning. I was exhausted from the stress and spending loads of time up at the hospital and I was late. Unfortunately I got the call as I was about to leave the house and never got to say goodbye.
Always regretted it.

Thanks, Danno. It's been a rough few days. Frog that's pretty much what I said but if she goes it can't be indefinitely. So if she does go to say goodbye and he survives a month, she might not be able to go back for the funeral. It's a LONG, expensive trip. Fucking terrible decision to have to make. I hate funerals and would rather say goodbye personally, I think... but it's up to her in the end.

I'm with you there mate, would much rather say goodbye in person. Either way it's an awful decision to have to make.

Jeez that's a toughie, looking back to when I lost my mum I think given the choice (poor choice of phrase) I'd have opted for saying goodbye rather than the funeral.

If it’s going to make you suffer financially I wouldn’t feel guilty about it. I watched both my dad and my gran die right in front of me (not at the same time) but they were both so heavily sedated I’m not sure they even knew I was there
My Mum couldn’t face being there for either of them, she still says she’s glad she wasn’t there

I don't think there's a right or wrong decision to make in this situation. You do what you think is best at the time and don't second guess yourself afterwards.

So sorry to hear that, dogbot . As ever, if there's anything I/we can do, don't hesitate to say the word. And yeah, don't feel bad for bumping the thread - although I didn't know him outside the forum, and this may seem horribly presumptuous, it seems like a safe bet to say that Chris wouldn't have wanted you (or any of us) to.
