The relationship thing is the reason I didn't buy Three Houses. It was ok in Awakenings, but I didn't need anymore of it. Yeah, I prefer it without it (think they should include a mode that lets you just play the story missions) which is why I was looking forward to Advance Wars so much

Maybe it's not for me. I assume I could buy the vouchers and hang onto one for later? Just to add, Advance Wars was one of my favourite games ever (I did also love the GBA fire emblem). Don't really remember the sequel (to advance Wars), so either it wasn't as good, or I didn't play it!

I might get into Fire Emblem if it weren't for the dull storytelling you have to wade through.

It's £42 digitally with the caveat you have to buy another selected list of AAA titles for £42 as well!

The 2 for £80 or whatever it is is digital right? Physical, First party games like Metroid resell for good money. I bought mine for £45 and sold for £36 on eBay which definitely softens the price...

Also you can get Metroid for £35 at Curry's with code GAMENEXTDAY at checkout. Choose standard delivery 3-5 days.
This is a pretty standard trick at Curry's where their free rapid delivery code gives £5 off if you choose slow mail

Useful to know - maybe I'll get it from Currys and then sell on eBay when done. I almost feel bad doing it!

Just finished first run through at a touch over 20 hrs at 100%, amazing game.
I'd say I'd been playing more like 40 hrs with all the restarts, so at about £1per hour it's a bargain.

100%. Wow, my fist was 45% I think I got hooked scanning every corner and kept going round and round ... And the shinespark puzzles, loved them. I wish they'd do dlc with just a load of the speed puzzles

It would be completely against the spirit of Metroid, but they could put together some kind of linear Time Trial DLC. Get from point A to point B as quickly as possible, but enemies get moved around, certain doors are locked, you have limited abilities, etc...
Chuck a leaderboard in there and you're done. The controls are so good it would fun to try.

Just about to kill the 3rd EMMI - just struggling to get enough distance from it to shoot away the face shield...

At the risk of stating the obvious, there’s always one platform long enough to blast away the faceplate in each zone. Sometimes it’s a little trek but it’s always easier than blasting it from the first place you encounter it.

Just about to kill the 3rd EMMI - just struggling to get enough distance from it to shoot away the face shield... Did that one myself earlier this week. Nick is right - and there is a long enough one - however you have to take your balls in your hand as it gets "really" close before the mask comes off (and you have to be accurate). I was bailing out a fraction to early a number of times before I just stood my ground.

This is rather good, just finished the last EMMI. Boss battles are satisfying. The running around is spot on.
There are so many abilities as well. Apparently I've only just put in about 7 hours but it feels like more in a good way. The action is great but there's also that glorious exploration and the chance to just chill and to to find items every one in a while.
Edit; actually it was the penultimate EMMI

Have reached the end game now. Got all collectibles. 1 in particular, but 2 or 3 of the shinespark collectibles were fucking awkward as hell to achieve. Must have taken me 100 attempts to do the hardest one.
Final boss has beaten me about 8 times now. But I'm consistently getting to his 3rd form, but he has some mad attacks that I'm struggling to detect the telegraph of and get out of the way for.
Will hopefully find time to end it tomorrow.

Yeah, it's a terrible boss battle. I hate ones that are just memory games and this is just 'dodge this that way, now dodge that this way'. The key, I think, to the third form is being ready for the parry which is easier said than done.
Anyway, finished 10hrs40m at 39% completion. I think I prefer the 'vania' in metroidvania, I enjoyed my time with bloodstained more than this. The double jump is too fiddly, the controls are ridiculous and the general combat is a bit weak but it's fun enough. I'm sticking with not ESSETAL but it's ok.

That’s a pretty low completion. I went from “yeah, this is decent enough” to “omfg” when I went and did the hunt for upgrades. Also made the final boss a lot more bearable. Finished in the low 90s I think after 20 some hours.
There’s a whole shinespark puzzle meta game in there that you’ve probably missed out on, which is a shame. But if it didn’t grab you it didn’t grab you.

But if it didn’t grab you it didn’t grab you. I'd got to the end at about 50% and found the final boss almost impossible so went back and got more upgrades. I enjoyed that collection part more than just getting to the end and kept going until I had everything. I never 100% anything but this had me hooked.

I think I may have gone back to pick up more stuff if it wasn’t just ‘more of this’ and ‘more of that’ or if, when you get to the point of no return, the whole teleport system unlocks and you can fast travel anywhere.
I found traversal a bit of a chore so couldn’t really be bothered going back to look for extras.

There is a point where you unlock all teleporters, not far beyond where you’ve gotten to. Agreed on there being little point to the collectibles in terms of progress, although it does make things easier. However! Sometimes it’s the activity that’s as important as the reward. Figuring out the shinespark puzzles was possibly my favourite part of the game. But I’d you hate the controls you’d probably put your foot through the tele on some of them.

oh, does it? It doesn't advertise it very well!
I can imagine some of the puzzles are annoying. Other than the double jump, I did find the other controls a bit rub head/pat tummy to the point that I pretty much just finished the last boss with just the standard laser.

Yeah that's a good point, if you'd finished before unlocking the teleporters, the thought of going back seems a nightmare.

The final teleporter you find unlocks the rest, basically.

Oh, and a good bit of advice for practicing the controls is to use one of those big metro station type areas. When you can get to max speed and maintain it whilst running all the way from end to end then you’re set.
Nowhere else in the game really let’s you cut loose and figure it out.

I didn’t find the super jump that bad. It was all the shoulder modifiers for things that started to chafe my nips.
