Third boss is giving me grief. Not sure if I'm able to jump over a certain move or I need to avoid using one of my suit powers. Which boss is that? Water one

If it's the one I'm thinking of then it seems frustratingly hard but is really ridiculously easy when you get into the swing of it. Is it underwater tentacle guy ? If so you just need to shoot his tentacle until it drops, the hit the power button with a charge shot then grapple up to the magnetic bit on the ceiling, then hit the power button on the right. Unless you're counting the mini-boss robo chozo?

Unless you're counting the mini-boss robo chozo? you are right with that boss, but it's more I think phase 2 when it flicks at you with a combo and it looks like I can't jump it like you could the earlier ones After you have shot his central part when the shell opens, after a while he throws multiple tentacles wrapped up and they have hit and insta killed me when I tried to jump over them like I did successfully with the earlier strikes

Hmmm... Can't remember it all that well. Melee counter for that bit maybe? I probably had full health from the rest of the fight so could afford to take a hit.

Remember you should get more airtime if you do a running jump (so you somersault) than if you do a stationary one. The tentacles recoil back slightly before striking, so just look out for that and then just running jump at the wall and you should easily avoid it.
If it's the one where it anchors itself at the top with 2 and then swipes twice with the remaining tentacles the same jump should work, just wait for them to vibrate and then jump each one.

Cheers dude. I admit I have only had 2 attempts so obviously tried jumping too late. Will crack on with it later.

Not really enamoured with the final boss.

Yeah, last boss was a bit of a prick. The second and third phases are absolute bullshit. Takes way too long to get through it all again if you cock up too. The lift loading starts to grate after a few retries I found with the second phase when he does the spiral shot, it helps to charge your storm missiles and space jump over him, then drop down and unleash a shot, then slide or dash, start charging storm missiles again and repeat if he does two sweeps. Power bomb to get rid of the orbs (especially the golden one anyway, the black one isn't too bad to hit with 4x missiles)

The strike where he hits you with all 3 tentacles can definitely be jumped over I absolutely didn't find that to be true, but grappling up and hanging for a moment was the way for me. I'm really not digging the Robo mini bosses. I think it's the wankiest encounter and the fact it's repeated so much is really souring the game for me. Hate it hate it hate it.

Yeah I beat that boss last night and couldn't jump that move. Got a few more powers and fought some mini bosses. How far in am I now?

Is the lift the final chance to go explore or can you mop up afterwards?. Considering going for a wander instead.

Yeah, that's a point of no return so a good point to grab some items.

I really enjoyed the end boss, thought it was a very well designed fight. Phattso use your best missile upgrade if you have it on those things, it murders the fuck out of them in seconds

Missile upgrade? There's a missile upgrade?! I have about 80 missiles. I just keep a regular pummelling of missiles on them, and bide my time looking for an opportunity to counter. The encounters are totally doable - albeit after a lot of attempts to me - they're just not very much fun. For me, at any rate. Don't think I'm near the end, just did the underwater boss and the second Robo dude, and now I'm wandering around a bit mopping up collectibles.

Ah ok, you probably don't quite have the upgrade I'm talking about yet then. When you get it those guys become a cinch.
Don't forget about your shift dodge btw, it's one of the best combat moves in the game.

Saw it for $80 ($20 less than RRP, $10 less than Eshop) so fuck it, I'm in. Now trying to convince myself that I really should finish the last bit of Samus Returns before firing this up.

Cor, the boss encounters come thick and fast toward the end don't they?! Barely time to enjoy an upgrade when BAM! fight time.

Really happy I backtracked. I wouldn't have done another run and its very satisfying mopping up items and opening up missed sections when you're basically invincible.
Some of the item puzzles are rock hard though (I'm looking at you, speed block)

Yeah, they really dialled up the difficulty of some of the item puzzles. There's one energy part in Dairon I think that was bloody evil. Trigger shinespark and then space jump right to the top of the room before shinesparking through a block.
There was one missile+ upgrade that I just noped out of after trying a couple of times. Harder than most of the boss fights!

Fark me. Those of you who finished the game quickly must've been absolutely pissing yourself after I was griping about the shitness of that one Chozo Robot/Guard fight at the start. :-D
Anyways, into the final area now. I guess pretty soon I'm going to need to choose between mopping up and just powering through to the end? Or is there a post-credits game of some sort?

There's a point of no return when it prompts you to go up in a lift, so get all of your backtracking done before you agree to that. Most of the big bosses are a case of getting to know their patterns and are generally enjoyable when you get into the swing of it. The small minibosses are just too frequent and annoying, even when you can take them down quickly with storm missiles. Worst boss for me was probably Escue the wasp bastard

Yeah, exactly. The set piece bosses are all good, even the frustrating ones, but the minibosses I could take or leave much of the time. I found your nemesis a piece of piss, bit I nearly snapped the switch at X-56 because I just couldn't get it over the finish line and the sequence after the counter sometimes triggered and sometimes didn't and even now I don't know why that was. Definitely feeling a lot more badass in the game now than even just a couple of hours ago. Those last handful of upgrades - especially for traversal - are excellent.
