For those of us on Pixel that are itching for Android 13, but haven't got the update yet, it is possible to enroll in the OS Beta programme. Because the final Android 13 is now out, enrolling in the beta will push Android 13 to your device. I've done it. Easy and cool. Click here to visit the invitation page. Log in with the Google account on your Pixel and enroll.

My Pixel 5 has already had the OTA update for 13.
Best thing so far is the ability to turn off the two line clock on the lock screen.

So, the Samsung Tab 7 FE, 128GB has been bought. Argos is currently selling it for £489. Which is a nice bargain. But I get a discount from work with the Samsung Portal, so checked their website. They are selling it in 4 different colours. But at £503. Apart from the silver colour, which for some weird reason, is going for £435.60. So I bought it in silver!
Even weirder, the 64GB version in silver is going for £399.60. But if you choose any of the other 3 colours, you pay £467.10. We already know that the 128GB silver is £435. But if you choose the 128GB version in any of the other 3 versions, you pay £503.10.
Which means that the 64GB in black, green and pink is pricier than the 128GB in silver. I am assuming that some poor schlob at Samsung has labelled these items wrongly? In any case, I have my order confirmation and this piece of kit should be with me on Tuesday! Goodbye, iPad. You are being sent to my brother in Uganda.

What a difference 11 hours makes. Checked the Samsung website today. And the tablet I bought yesterday for £435, is now listed as £475. Someone has clearly made a mistake. Let's see if they'll swallow that £40 difference or make me pay for it.

Are there any *low priced* android phones that have decent cameras and optical image stabilization?
I can't really bring myself to get an iphone, but it always seems like they have better photos, especially low light / indoor ones.
It seems weird when a 12MP 2020 Iphone SE gets recommended over a 108MP 2022 Android phone.

Pixel 6 has good cameras and OIS, and has been discounted down to around the same price as an iPhone SE. Generally though OIS seems like a midrange+ thing, and you don't get it with the cheapo phones.

Not really a phone post but close enough.
Has anyone here replaced a usb port on a Android tablet?
I got an old Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 with a busted usb port (cable doesn't fit in properly and it looks mangled inside). As far as I know the tablet works fine and I want to give it to my dad so he can play basic games and stuff.
I see that you can get usb ports on Ebay (for like £1.50) and I got a solder kit, but wondering if it's worth DIY, taking it to a repair shop or buying a new tablet?

I did on my old Nexus 7 tablet yeeeears ago and it was pretty doable, but tablets have got a lot thinner since then and rely more on glue than easily openable back covers. I'd say have a look on ifixit and see what's involved/difficulty level because it could be a doddle or could be a massive pain in the bum.
If it's over 2 or 3 on the difficulty scale I'd say just get a repair shop to do it.

Yeh , the back should come off pretty easily. Straightforward job if your handy with a soldering iron. If its the 10 inch version the socket just unscrews. www.youtube.com/watch?v=VT78t9HARsg

Got home from a gig on Friday night and obviously dropped my phone in the toilet, now completely fucked. Got a Nokia X20 for less than 300GBP, which seems all right. Not much choice in NZ if you want stock Android sadly.
It comes with a biodegradable case which is cool, but hilariously ugly.

Nokia still make phones?? Can't vouch for the new ones, but old school nokias would survive a trip to the toilet.

I bought a Nokia XR20 for my mum in Uganda. Bought it in Argos. Shipped it to Africa. Once there, discovered that there is some sort of widespread charging issue and the phone is now dead. Obviously still under warranty and it is being exchanged, but it's such a faff. It has set be sent back to UK from Uganda.
Wish I had just bought a £300 phone from OnePlus instead.

Just got my Pixel 6 Pro back from Google and it seems so much better already. Managed to use it for 20 hours and I'm only down to 46% which was unheard of. No random overheating when I'm doing nothing at all with it.
Android 13 seems nice too. The song progress on the Spotify notification looks like a swimming sperm, which I'll never be able to unsee...

My Moto Edge G5 was updated to Android 12 and it's totally fucked the colour balancing. Everything is very saturated, reds in particular are pretty painful to look at. Seems to be a known issue, but doubt anything will be done about it. Really, really wish I hadn't updated, especially as most of the new features are totally lost on me
And the clock widget is now blue, which I don't like.

So assuming the current 20off doesn't require a code then potentially 35% off ...

They're due to announce stuff next week, so probably trying to clear out old stock.
I think I'll wait for the 7 Pro, tbh.

I only got my Pixel 6 less than a year ago. Otherwise I'd also jump in for the 7. Or perhaps even the 7 Pro. As it stands, I'll hang fire.

Aye, I'll hang on for the 8 pro at least. The me of the past who went through multiple new phones every year is long gone.
My 6 Pro has been absolutely perfect so far after the repair. It's gone from something I regretted to one of my favourite phones. It went for a little swim on holiday and had condensation on the inside of the lenses for a week, but thankfully that cleared up. I'm guessing the repair messed up its waterproofing a bit.

Anyone else lost the pinch to zoom function on their Android device recently? It seems to have been removed (deliberately or otherwise) from Android 13 on Pixel 4a. Which is really, really shit.

I have a bit of a tech support question that someone on here might have an answer to, or at least be able to give a bit more information rather than having to hand my phone in.
I recently was transferring a reasonable amount of money out of my Lloyd's bank account into account I have with another bank. It got flagged as suspicious and I had to call them up. During the call, the chap at the other mentioned that it looked like I had registered a new device a few minutes before making the transfer. This wasn't the case, as I just used the same phone as I always use with the app. He looked a bit more into it and appeared that every time I was logging in it was re-registering the phone. He checked back 6 months and saw the same thing then.
He said that this could be a sign of a rooted device (I haven't rooted the phone), an app that shares control of the phone that has removed some of the security (don't believe I have anything like that) or malware. He suggested I take into a specialist to run some tests.
The phone is a One Plus 8 Pro and it is fairly close to stock Android. I bought it directly from One Plus, which he seemed to think meant that it was less likely to have anything installed on it that would interfere.
Any ideas what might cause something like that (besides shitty banking apps) or any troubleshooting I can do my end without having to get someone else to look at it? The fraud guy said it was likely it would flag up if I made similar large transfers and would need to go through the process of calling them again, which took up over an hour.

Uh… yeah… weird one. If your device is rooted it should fail the safetynet check and the app shouldn’t work at all (unless the Lloyds app is an exception or a bit fucked), so I think he’s talking bollocks.
So, standard tech support, I suppose. Download rootcheck from the play store to see if it is rooted, update everything, wipe your phone clean, try again a few times, ring them and see if it’s still happening. And make sure it’s a number from their website. It’s such an odd one, I would quadruple check the person you spoke to was just talking shit rather than getting details out of you.
