Halo Infinite

I played this on the PC last night and my god it feels good. There's something about the locomotion and the smoothness, combined with chunky sound effects that had me grinning right away. First time using mouse and keyboard for a Halo game and it works very well. In my head Halo has a weightiness and floatiness that can sometimes make it feel more like you're steering a car than a person, but that's all gone. Love it.

Anyone know how to mute people in-game? Nothing worse than listening to moaners when they die early doors.

I read something about maps being deliberately held back until after the campaign launches to not spoil some locations. Agree the current batch feel too small.

Loving Infinite though, can't wait for the single player next month.

It's out but they are calling it a beta, until 8 Dec when it properly launches.

Progression will carry through though, unlike the test flights.

Shotty needs to be more powerful at close range. Pistol is great though.

Yeah, I just think that it should be one-shot at point-blank range as the time-to-kill with two shots feels long and it loses what should make it deadly at close range. Or I'm just crap with it!

Yeah, that's true. I'm too old and slow. For the first few matches I was pressing b to melee and not connecting at all!

Are we doing some FG Halo matches anyway?

Melee was RS for me but since I'd been playing the Master Chief Collection my muscle memory kept pressing B...and RB to reload. Got it out of my system finally but it was a rough first couple of matches. The Battle Pass progression is now painfully slow for me. Got all weapon specific challenges now and I rarely find the weapon needed, never mind actually kill someone with it.

Well, finally installed this. Only tried the tutorial and one quickplay match.

After the PC version kinda left me in the dust, the Series S seems a lot better. Finally a game that saves some space - it's just 18GB on the S (plus 4GB as reserved space). I think it's 30GB total on the X? With this kind of memory footprint, I might as well keep it indefinitely.

There are two modes, performance at 60fps and quality at 30fps. But I fail to see any difference between them. Same 1080p resolution and settings even. Maybe quality mode uses slightly better AA, but it's definitely not worth the framerate hit. Though I'm sure eventually Digital Foundry will prove me wrong and tell us how amazing the 30fps mode actually is.

Performance itself is a bit disappointing. While the beta seemed rock solid, I've had some obvious drops this time. Of course I've also increased my FOV a little from the default, but you'd think the game would just be more aggressive with the dynamic resolution or something.

Anyway, given that D2 is pretty much on hold for now, and I'm not far from being done with FH5, this should tide me over nicely until the campaign.



I'm a Destiny type, so I've mapped melee to RB. Though I didn't have much experience with Halo multiplayer. It feels somewhat similar, but quite a bit slower overall.

After coming from Destiny, though, I must admit the UI could use some streamlining. There's a lot of things that aren't very obvious. For example, how do I see the challenges if I don't have the battle pass? I only know that I got 100XP for completing the match.

You just press Y on the front end menus.
