The more abhorrent part of this story is where someone is quoted as charging £1300 a month for a room - not a house or flat - a room. Yep, a relative of mine is moving down to London to do an MA, a single room is going to cost her £1000 a month. |

I had no idea crossbow laws were so lax in the UK, you can literally go and buy any old lethal crossbow and as many bolts as you like no questions asked.

It's a weird one, crossbow laws are lax because no one really used them to do anything too criminal and it's an odd choice of weapon to use to commit murder in the environment this appears to have been done in because why would you instead of a knife?
I'm sure they'll get clamped down a bit but it's a weapon and ammunition that anyone with a bit of skill and equipment could knock together if they really want to. Repeating crossbows are rather scary.

Re the crossbow thing - does nobody remember the ‘Crossbow Cannibal’? Surprised they haven’t done something just on the back of that.
Concerning the thoughts that crossbow control isn’t the issue - I agree it isn’t ’the’ issue but simply in terms of mitigation of risk it could now be looked at. I am of the mindset that a lot of people would use projectile weapons who might not necessarily go for something more ‘hands on’ let’s say.
The only practical use of one I can think of in the Uk is to shoot a Scot within the city walls of York or whatever that old urban myth is.
