Honestly, that looks more fun than any reception I've been to. Can't fucking stand them. The chitchat, small talk bollocks with friend of a friend, relatives you didn't know existed. The waiting, and waiting, and waiting. The god awful speeches. The shit DJ. Give me a happy meal at Cobham anyday. Just because it's a services doesn't mean you get to just go and have a piss and a sandwich. They booked it and got an area cordoned off. You're doing all the same wedding reception stuff and are there all day, you're just at Cobham services. Still better.

The postcode round the corner from us and literally right next to my parents-in-law won the Postcode Lottery. I've never played it, and I don't think there's any point in me ever playing now! www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c6p23v056m2o

Haha, I wonder if neighbours winning actually causes people nearby to stop playing? Psychologically I can totally see it happening. It's kind of the problem of being stuck with a static number, even though statistically it should make no difference.

It doesn't say he was randomly smashing pots looking for currency but I bet he was.
What a stupid twat.

Just something to keep his hands busy.
Personally I find a 2ft machete to be a more effective fidget toy.

That's 20cm long only? A frigging butcher knives are longer and much more dangerous. Was he swinging it around? 4 months seems excessive. Years ago police confiscated a sword from a guy in train station. Big ass sword from naruto anime (zabuza character's sword) That I could understand. Guy didn't get arrested at least on spot.

The law on blade lengths is pretty clear. Although can be a load of bollocks if you've got a genuine reason to carry a decent multi tool.
Throw the book at the cunt and make an example of him I say.

The guy was holding it out in public unsheathed. The police basically said he's a bit of an idiot for getting caught like that.

Unless he was doing something threatening with it, it does seem a bit harsh for someone basically being dumb.
How does a guy holding a mini zelda sword get 4 months and those guys who attacked a guy with machettes and bats and cracked his skull got suspended sentences?

Major victory for Japan
Japan declares victory in 'war' on floppy disks
No doubt they will move to Zip discs next

Unfortunately, they are still being hard pressed by the Dominion of Fax Machines.

Is it the same kind of "rubber law"* as here, where you can carry a knife if there's a legitimate reason, but it's up to the police to arbitrarily decide if your reason is legitimate?
(*don't know if that's an expression in English)

You can carry a blade if you've got a justification for it as a work tool or similar or for religious reasons (Sikhs have an exception on that front), how quickly you can make it usable is also a factor, he was carrying it openly and bullshitting about why he was.
He's someone who has been in and out of prison for decades, the court was never going to act leniently.

Yeah, not a comment on this case, just curious if it was the same as here. It's often used as an example of a badly written law due to how arbitrary it is, but the police obviously like having laws they can enforce as they see fit and there doesn't seem to be much political interest in fixing it. Things like electricians and carpenters being charged for wearing their toolbelts while buying lunch is obviously a dick move by the police/prosecution, but it has happened.

Cyclist fined for kissing wife during Tour de France
I wonder how much he would've been fined for kissing someone else's wife.

Well it's France, so they'd probably give him a red white and blue Jersey.

I miss the days of the tour when the cyclists would just raid off licenses on route for wine and beer.
(I say miss, it was well before I was born. But I still like the idea of those raids)

There’s footage I saw recently, piling in and then riding down the road swigging on a carafe of fine French wine 😂

If anyone needs fining for “damaging the image of the sport” it’s the UCI itself

The more abhorrent part of this story is where someone is quoted as charging £1300 a month for a room - not a house or flat - a room.
