It's quite awful and tragic but those comments... It's hard to tell if people are trolling or just thick.

As a wise man once said, "A little from column A, a little from column B."
The whole 'wE nEEd BriTIsH pOLiCe!' thing infuriates me, along with the usual suggestion that the local authorities aren't doing enough to help.
They've deployed drones, sniffer dogs, helicopters, and on-foot searchers - what more would you have them do?
How would having British cops, who don't speak the language and don't know the area, help in the slightest?
And wouldn't it (understandably) piss off the locals, who are doing their best under trying circumstances?

The jay slater missing kid in tenerife story is getting hectic. People now think the family is on the take lol Also convicted for smashing some kids skull in last year.
How the fuck none of them got jailed for that is beyond me.

This kid clearly went back for a sesh, they fell out over cash/coke/whatever and told him to fuck off.
He wandered off completelu spangled and fell into a ditch.
Tragic but he is also the kid who split some kids head open with 7 of his mates using golf clubs and a machete so explains why the BBC has a fish and chip shop owner talking about his mum rather than the usual parade of soundbites about what a lovely lad he is.

I think one can maintain a sense of empathy and compassion for him (and especially his family) while not excusing terrible shit he did. Teenagers do terrible shit all the time, their brains haven't fully developed yet.

And besides, you never know what Maddie was up to when she disappeared. She could have been doing lines of cocaine and making racist remarks at resort waitstaff, we'll probably never know for sure.

170,000 people go missing in the UK every year, yet very few get the attention of Bulley or Slater (okay he's not in the UK but I don't think that matters).
Just find it weird how some the media zeitgeist latch onto some missing people cases but ignore most. Just feels like some cases become a grotesque circle jerk between mainstream news outlets and social media trolls and influencers.

Aye, the BBC news thing reports Some of the money? So keeping some back for 'personal use'? I thought she'd be using it all.

I mean, the media's attention span for most current affairs things lasts for a couple of weeks at most. Nobody is going to remember who Slater is after a month or so. And if you broaden out, it happens with stuff like war reporting as well. Israel/Palestine always gets the emotions flowing, but there's rebels and resistance movements in other war-torn countries that would kill to get even a fraction of that kind of attention and coverage.

Presumed dead then I guess, after all the shenanigans, whilst he obviously made some poor choices in life he probably didn't deserve to die of exposure on a mountainside. Still all a bit weird, nobody bothered to really interrogate the two English guys whose house he stayed at, the local plod turning down any extra help until days (weeks) later (and then hardly anyone showing up when the they did finally ask), a complete plod no speak policy until the very end, very odd.

I assume this case only got any coverage because it came so soon after that TV doctor guy. Otherwise it probably would have been ignored.

Hmmmm... suspicious. Clearly the investigators and/or the BBC are hiding something here, thank goodness Reddit is on the case.

Having used Cobham services a few times over the years I can't say I've had anything other than thoughts about how fucking expensive the place is but at least the loos are free. Not sure of the sanity of anyone having a wedding reception there, especially with the bloody nightmare that the J10 roadworks are. www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c4ngp9pep53o

I’d happily attend a wedding reception at Tebay services, as long as the meal consists of the pies and sausage rolls they do.

Honestly, that looks more fun than any reception I've been to. Can't fucking stand them. The chitchat, small talk bollocks with friend of a friend, relatives you didn't know existed. The waiting, and waiting, and waiting. The god awful speeches. The shit DJ.
Give me a happy meal at Cobham anyday.

Just because it's a services doesn't mean you get to just go and have a piss and a sandwich. They booked it and got an area cordoned off. You're doing all the same wedding reception stuff and are there all day, you're just at Cobham services.
