Compare it to something like Margin Call, which is similarly about Wall Street cunts being cunts but it was tonally much more "these are cunts". Wolf just felt a bit laddy and jokey. Giving the actual guy a cameo in the film, which he'll no doubt dine out on, really irked me. But the thing that absolutely fucked me off, and will continue to fuck me off until the day I die: Margot Robbie got her kit off and showed everything but fucking DiCaprio and some of the other cunts in it used body doubles just for their arse. I cannot tell you just how much I absolutely hate that kind of one sided sexist "expect the women to show everything but the blokes can keep their dignity" shit. You know that was her choice? She was originally going to be in a bathrobe.

Also, the whole film is based on a book written by Jordan Belfort about his life.
It is not glamourizing him for the whole movie either. He is a laughing stock for much of the film. Most of the film is absolutely ridiculous.

I think it’s probably fair criticism of Scorsese that he over glamorises a bit in WoWS. He definitely doesn’t show the downside of the lifestyle to the same degree he does in Goodfellas. It’s not hard to come away from WoWS thinking it was probably all worth it considering he still ends up better off than most of us.
You could argue that’s him being critical of the system or whatever but I think Scorsese does somewhat admire and aspire to some of his characters. But I’m in for the ride and enjoy his films.

He definitely doesn’t show the downside of the lifestyle to the same degree he does in Goodfellas. Because the downside isn't anywhere near as dangerous or as harsh as the lifestyle in Goodfellas. It shows how flawed the law is with his story that it's worth the risk.

It shows how flawed the law is with his story that it's worth the risk. I meant more in terms of proportion of the story. Goodfellas final third is all pretty negative whereas with WoWS it’s about five minutes at the end. I don’t know about you but I came away from WoWS thinking it looked a pretty sweet life. Which is probably is but again, I don’t think it’s harsh criticism to say Scorsese glamorises it.

What kal said. I certainly didn't get the "it all went to shit" way that Goodfellas did. It seemed to be kind of "did a bit of time but also I got this sweet movie out of it where I'm played by DiCaprio".
Personally, I would prefer those kinds of stories just left the fuck alone.
Fair enough if Robbie offered the full frontal but it still irks me the double standards. Young upcoming blonde actress does that while older male actor gets a fucking bum double.

Ah yeah, they definitely spend more time with the bad side in Goodfellas. But I see that as there not really being much of a downside in WoWS like you say. Does glamorise it but main thing for me it shows how fucked the system is that he basically gets away with it all.
20year old me would have been all over the debauchery and money making.

I'm sure it's a good movie and all, but nothing about Wolf of Wall Street sounds remotely appealing. Even the posters are off-putting.
Anyway, my main point was that it'd be kinda dumb for them to get rid of Robbie if she wants to continue in the role, given her star power and how much Barbie will have boosted it. Unless she just wants too much money.
Birds of Prey wasn't great*, nor was Suicide Squad, and I get the sense that The Suicide Squad wasn't that big, but Harley Quinn remains a very popular character, and her+robbie seems like one of the more marketable characters they have.
*just started rewatching the Birds of Prey TV show, which I watched decades ago and always had a bit of a soft spot for (despite parts of it being a bit rubbish) . I much prefer this version of Huntress to any of the other ones they've managed to put on screen. It'd make a decent setup for a movie tbh.. Batman and Joker dead or missing, Batman+Catwoman's daughter trying to fill his shoes with the help of Oracle. Harley as a proper psycho bad guy.

TWoWS is an excellent and hilarious film. But it absolutely glorifies the lifestyle. Goodfellas shows the good times and then how the whole thing eventually crumbles down. Films like Margin Call and The Big Short are examples where this incredible wealth at the expense of others is demonstrated and rightly pilloried.
TWoWS doesn’t ever show the human cost of Belfort’s actions. His victims get zero screen time. It shows marginal punishments for the main players, but ultimately you come out of it with the impression that Jordan Belfort is a funny guy who made a bunch of money and did a load of drugs and married Margot Robbie. If Scorsese really wanted the audience to be “the victim”, or to demonstrate how abhorrent the behaviour was, he could have - but he didn’t.

About Margot Robbie, pre-Barbie most of her films have been colossal flops. I never thought she was the A-lister that people made her out to be. Her solo Birds of Prey film for example. That’s probably all changed now.
She might end up having the same problem a lot of Marvel/DC actors have though. Not in an IP I like? Not interested.
Excellent actress but she’s never put bums on seats till now.

You don't have to think she's an A-Lister but she unequivocally is, and before Barbie. This is a weird thing to counter.

Her film choices haven't been the best, she has been in some stinkers and roles below her caliber. Needs to get in touch with Leo. His choices are pretty impeccable

Looking back at her roles, if completely forgotten she was the unrequited crush in About Time.

Glol. What planet do some of you live on?
She's been in some of the biggest films of the past 10 years, is probably the highest paid and most in demand female lead in Hollywood.

On Wolf of Wall Street, it is definitely a film that has its cake and eats it. My overriding memory of watching it is being in an audience that clearly thought everything going on was great and hilarious. Seeing so many clearly laughing with the characters made it hard to laugh at them and made the whole film very unpleasant.
Now you see "live the lives of the Wolves of Wall Street" events going on in London and it is pretty clear that a large proportion of the audience didn't come away critical of the people in the film. They came away wanting to be them.
Maybe you can say that is the fault of the individuals rather than the film. There is a fine line between satire and endorsements though and I think WoWS purposefully crosses over the line, with the satire just becoming an excuse for them to toss some little people.

Robbie basically went from relative unknown straight to S tier off the back of Wolf of Wall Street. She has been absolutely Hollywood’s hottest female lead since that film.

It should also be noted that of the flops she has been in, she has generally been held up as by far the best thing in it.
Side note: apparently she did the chain escape in suicide squad herself, no stuntman, so shes also pretty hardcore

I can’t think of a bigger female actress right now. There’s obviously those like Streep who are regarded as the best but they’re not exactly huge box office draws, but few actors and actresses are these days.

Which big movies has she been in? (excluding Barbie)
i'm not dissing her in any way, and there are different ways to classify someone as 'A-List' (fame, talent, awards, big movies, drawing power, etc..)
She just doesn't seem to have been in enough big movies to be undisputedly crowned the biggest in Hollywood. But maybe I've just missed them. Or maybe I don't follow Hollywood news closely enough.

The Suicide Squad stuff was her ‘one for them’ but aside from that she’s already super selective about her projects. Her not doing that many massive commercial blockbusters is evidence for her status, not against it.

I gather she only did Barbie because Greta convinced her it wouldn't be bullshit. Yes, JLaw is in "bigger" films and you have the MCU people but Robbie is very much considered a capable actress who elevates stuff.
Also, have you not seen the amount of fucking Harley Quinn tat with her face on it? When you're a Halloween costume, you're big.

Which big movies has she been in? (excluding Barbie) 'I, Tonya' was, I think, her first leading role and that was pretty huge. She was Sharon Tate in OUATIH.... I think she does mostly low key stuff by choice and a comic book movie every year to keep the bills paid.

She went straight to the top from TV aside from a very small role in that a shitty Richard Curtis film.
