But if it was that "easy", how come of all the actors to play him on screen in the last fifty years, the only two who really seem to have more-or-less nailed it are Keaton and Bale? Because Burton and Nolan are the only capable directors to have made Batman films. Reeves isn’t capable?

I forgot about The Batman as I suspect did Britesparc. But again, hardly a rich and layered performance. It’s not a character that’s ever really been deeply explored cinematically. Nolan came closest but all of them lean into the villains over Wayne/Batma. Which again is completely understandable.

The lack of cultural impact The Batman made is quite something. I don’t think I actually know anyone IRL who has seen it.

I don't get the appeal of The Batman. Yes it's gritty and real...but that's not what I want from these films.

Gritty and real is okay for Batman, IMO. 80s comics kind of really leaned in that direction, so it works for the character. I don’t want that out of my Superman movies, though.

The idea of making a more detectivey Batman is something that’s worked well in the comics and should have been a legit angle for a new cinematic take. But going down the “Seven” route just meant it felt extremely derivative. If it had been more of a noir thing it could have been really cool.

Yeah, I want bold bright colours and hope and wonder from my superman movies. I think there is a way to do a realistic Superman movie but Snyder just looked at it through a lens of BLOWING SHIT UP IS COOL.

I liked The Batman, but to me, the problem was that they went with the angle “hey, what it Batman WAS The World’s Greatest Detective™️?” and then had him miss the most basic of clues that targeted him and only him. It was so terribly done.

I can't be arsed to link it but Corridor Crew putting Adam West into the trailer for The Batman is genius if you haven't seen it.

Seen a few interesting threads on Twitter about Gunn apparently going for the golden age Superman costume. If it were to have that kind of aesthetic then that would really be interesting. People seem to be kicking off about this.
This is all on Twitter so IT MUST BE TRUE!

The Batman is a pretty decent film. It’s just doesn’t quite carve out its own place. They’ve committed to both a trilogy and an HBO series of The Penguin so it might grow into itself. There’s plenty there to work with.

The Batman would have been better streaming as a 2/3 part series. I enjoyed it more on a second viewing at home.
I need a Batman film to have more punching of henchmen and grappling guns.
As for Caville I think he's my favourite Superman.

Solid film. Didn't need the final 30 minutes with the flooded City though.
Definitely one of the best shot comic book movies.

Yeah, it was decent enough it’s just that I do find it interesting that the world just shrugged its shoulders and moved on.
Pretty much every other Batman product had some lasting impact. Even Batman Forever lives on in our hearts.

Batman Forever gave us the anecdote about Tommy Lee Jones telling Jim Carrey that he "could not sanction his buffoonery".

I'd forgotten that The Batman was a thing. I should probably get around to watching that sometime.
PS/ What's with The Flash teasing the batmobile and then never using it?! What a con!

Saw The Batman at the IMAX and the whole Batmobile sequence was so stupidly loud that it was worth the ticket price it for that alone.
I’m probably an easy sell on Batman films, but I thought it was decently done!

I liked it and it had a lot going for it. It certainly has flaws but I like the ambition and risks it took as well as being pretty decent.
It’s not the Nolan films but it was interesting and I do like that tone of film. Hopefully the sequel builds well on it.

I think the film was a victim of people collectively thinking Robert Pattinson couldn't pull it off and then sticking to their guns, refusing to accept they were wrong...

I thought The Batman was very good, I just felt it was too similar to what had come before. Most aspects of it I prefer to the Nolan films - a better car, a better suit, a Batman that doesn't kill - but it just felt derivative, and the whole idea of The Riddler as sort of John Doe-esque serial killer has been discussed in fandom so much for the last fifteen years that it seems cheesy and hackneyed.
Basically, almost every aspect of the film was excellent, but at the same time almost every aspect of it I felt was unoriginal. And it was an hour too long. So I never know quite what I think of it.

Hot take - Affleck is the best Batman on camera so far, but tied to the worst stories and scripts.

He had a lot of potential but was given a Bruce that wasn't even close to being the world's greatest detective.

I think I mentioned it here but someone poopooed it, but I really liked the dinner party scene where Lex introduces him and Clark. I liked his mix of charming and distrustful, and his pretending to be drunk while snooping around. I thought that was accurate to the character, if the dumb fat suit shotgun desert scenes weren’t.

Trilogy greenlit with a HBO spin off of the Penguin.
