I don't think they were planning on having him play the teenage Batman...

Give Hulk to Ang Lee! I hope this doesn't mess up the chances of a Supergirl movie. I heard she was quite good. I enjoyed the little bit of acting Supergirl had to do a LOT more than 2 and a half movies of Wonder Woman I sat through. Sasha Calle was very good, if Gunn doesn't cast her again it's a daft decision.

Let's hope this isn't a bag of shite. It'd be nice to actually see a GOOD Superman movie. It's been a while.

While I enjoyed The Flash it's not exactly surprising that it's not done that well at the box office, I can't see Blue Beetle doing very well either, the trailer makes it look like a long CW pilot rather than a big budget film. After that it's Aquaman 2 with its own issues but at least it's got Jason Mamoa and people really seem to dig him, there must be a lot of Stargate Atlantis fans like me out there. I rather enjoyed The Flash, but I went in with zero expectations and a good stash of sweets and ice-cream! I wanted to see Keaton, but it turns out the rest was alright too. Some films are just OK and I've certainly seen worse. I managed about 30 minutes of Aquaman before I had to switch it off. Bleugh. Saw the BB trailer and it's....quippy. *sigh*.

But it's got one of the leads of Cobra Kai and a Buster sword so it's down with the kids. Miguel bloody Diaz. What an irritating character that was. I knew I knew him from somewhere.

Neither of those guys are Christopher Reeve though, who is the only person who looks like and is Superman.
I think what’s happened here is there’s this generation who saw Cavill when they were ten years old, instead of Reeves, and that’s who they think Superman is. But they don’t have the benefit of having seen him in two great Superman movies to set them straight, then two shit ones to help them get over it. The Cavill kids started with shit movies and so now that’s what they think is good, and then grew up to be wrongheads in general.

I don’t really get what’s going on with Cavill, he appears to be a nice guy but his biggest fans seem to be awful people and I don’t know what happened around Black Adam and him returning/being cast out forever but it seemed a bit odd.
He’s only really been any good in Mission Impossible and that’s mainly for his fist pumping.

I think he's fine as Superman. There are little grace notes he does which suggest that if given a more lighthearted script he could have excelled. Generally all the films he's in are a bit crap though.
My biggest problem with him is that he doesn't give off a Superman vibe as much as a Batman one. I think he'd have been a tremendous Batman. Even with The Brave and the Bold, which needs a Batman presumably in his early forties, he's the right age, now, to play that. But being in bad Superman movies has robbed us of potentially a great Batman.

I can see that he’d be a good Batman in that it’s an incredibly undemanding role with next to zero character nuance, which would suit him as a one dimensional actor, but beyond that I’m not sure why he would be any more qualified than a million other actors that aren’t very good at acting.

I disagree that the character has no character nuance, however in the film versions yes the central character isn't given much development other than being angry or dim playboy as opposed to the the villains who have been always given more to work with.

Did you just suggest that Supes III is shit? Try watching it again as an adult, it’s fucking dreadful. It’s a fairly bad Superman film, but an ok Richard Pryor film for kids. It has a few high points. Evil Supes is fun and the Clark vs Supes fight is one of the high points of any of the films. But yes. It’s a very strange design by committee mess for the most part. I’d still probably rank it above MoS and SR.

Yeah, I'm not sure why people criticise the role of Batman. I've seen it before. But if it was that "easy", how come of all the actors to play him on screen in the last fifty years, the only two who really seem to have more-or-less nailed it are Keaton and Bale? And even then you could criticise aspects of their performance (Bale's voice, for instance). I think capturing Bruce Wayne's combination of intensity and heart, as well as the double of life of "Bruce in the cave" and "Bruce the playboy", is quite tricky to pull off. And that's before you start shooting him in dark corners in a rubber mask.

Yeah, it come down to script and direction. Kilmer, Clooney and Affleck are all great actors, but if the right story isn’t told, a performer isn’t going to rescue the film.
