I was looking forward to a Batman vs Deathstroke live action so was disappointed he dropped out.

I think the way Snyder shot it looked okay but the Whedon stuff I think showed it in a bad light - often literally. It looked like a rubber costume, which of course is what it is.
I like the costumes from Batman 89, The Dark Knight, and The Batman, but it is odd how no-one has quite managed to give him an outfit that looks close to the comics but also like a believable suit you could wear. The MCU has generally been very good at this but DC is either "ridiculous movie costume" or "practical but boring".

Yeah that is weird. I kind of want to watch it again now. I got the urge to watch The Departed again the other fay but through thinking about it I ended up watching all the best bits on YouTube so there's no point now. Watch Infernal Affairs instead, if you haven't already.
I much preferred it to The Departed, but I suspect that's because I saw it first. It's a very different vibe of movie though.
Very high tempo compared to The Departed's slower pace.
Infernal Affairs 2 and 3 are interesting, but pretty flawed in places and 2 suffers from casting boy-band-type younger 'actors' who look pretty but can't act that well.

I saw Infernal Affairs first as well but still love The Departed more. Nicholson being menacing as fuck, Wahlberg being sweary as fuck and great performances all round set to the sound of Dropkick Murphys in the background - it's just too good.

The Departed has some great performances, but as a thriller it's not half as tight. Then again, I probably went into it expecting something like Infernal Affairs and so it wasn't at all what I was hoping for.

I had Infernal Affairs on my watch list years ago but never got round to it. Does it need to be watched as a trilogy?

It's been yonks since I watched them, but I don't think so. Obviously crack on and watch the rest if you like, though.
II was a pretty pointless prequel from what I remember.

Hold on, are we fat shaming batman now? Depending on who drew him, he has always veered between well built athlete, and slightly stocky brick outhouse.

I had Infernal Affairs on my watch list years ago but never got round to it. Does it need to be watched as a trilogy? No. The first one is by far the best. I watched the others because I liked the first one and they weren't bad, but they were a bit of an awkward attempt to force a wider narrative around #1's pretty self contained tale.

Infernal Affairs is great, much better than the Departed IMO, not that the latter is bad. Like Ubergene I never felt the need to watch any of the sequels.

I watched it back in the days before streaming, so I think I may have gotten a trilogy dvd boxset from cd-wow as it was the cheapest way to get it. In those days you watched what you could get and you were happy about it. And all this was fields.
I don't think the sequels (well, 2 is a prequel) ruin its legacy or anything, but they sure aren't essential.

I actually disliked The Departed a great deal. I’d seen the story already obviously, and couldn’t see past it as just a derivative, but was also strangely annoyed that it’s one innovation was that all plot threads had to be neatly closed off in the ending, rather than IA’s more interesting (to me) inconclusive finale.

I haven't seen either Infernal Affairs or The Departed since near enough their release, but I do remember thinking IF was miles better. Departed is mid-tier Scorsese. I'm glad he finally got his Oscar, but it's a shame it wasn't for a better film.
I did quite like Nicholson's performance though. I like to imagine Jack Napier survived falling off that cathedral, moved to Boston, got better plastic surgery, changed his name and became a local mob boss. He plays the role with that same gonzo intensity, and all the other actors are left standing around and just watching him.

I disliked The Departed because it was a loud, bloated, overly-sweary mess with terrible baaaaaawston accents. Tbh I think a lot of Scorsese movies since, say, Gangs of New York have been overlong, self-indulgent bores.

But I had a similar thing with The Town - like Ben Affleck was putting on a weird Boston accent. He didn't sound like that in Good Will Hunting!

I'd imagine that people from Boston probably know what a strong Boston accent sounds like more than you poindexters.

When I went to Boston it really sounded like everyone was putting on a shit fake accent. When it’s strong it’s just very odd sounding to us I think.

To be clear, I have no idea whether their accents were genuine Boston accents. I'm saying that Boston accents are terrible.
