Everyone went to see Tom Cruise in Maverick. The same people will go to see Michael Keaton in this.

Yeah. Keaton Batman was huge. Anyone over the age of about 27/28 will be familiar with it. There were toys galore, videogames, the animated series, etc.
I wouldn't he surprised if they market Keaton as the big draw.

You mean like putting out a trailer that almost entirely focuses on Keaton?

Also, it's not quite the Spiderverse reality-hopping thing I was expecting. It does appear to be a very loose adaptation of Flashpoint, in that Barry goes back to change the past but something cocks up and he returns in the "Rich Biff" version of the future (so to speak), where Zod has taken over the world, there are no metahumans (so I'm guessing the "other Barry" isn't the Flash), Supergirl is locked in a government lab (like Superman was in Flashpoint), and Batman is an old(er) guy. I don't think this is even really meant to be the Batman 1989 universe. So, same universe with two different actors for Batman... How about Flash goes back in time, causes Thomas Wayne to meet another woman, Keaton is born, when Batman V Superman happens Supes says "Martha" and Keaton just doesn't care, ripping his head off... And Keaton then becomes the villain who eradicates all metahumans...

People watch films that were made before they were born...especially franchise films. (See all franchises ever) Also most of us are in our late 30s, early 40s at least so I'm betting we're the target

I don't think anyone under the age of about 40 will care that much about Keaton Batman. They'd have grown up with all the shit Batmen that followed him.

Ok. I suppose that makes sense when you think that people under the age of 40 don't care about Connery/Moore Bond, or Kirk/Picard, or seem completely uninterested in 80s slasher movies. Or Jaws. Or Indiana Jones.

If you think about it, it doesn't really make much sense that going back and altering the timeline would result in a different Bruce Wayne. It could result in Bruce Wayne not becoming batman. Or batman having a different life. Or someone else becoming batman. But what change in the timeline could alter Bruce Wayne's dna from looking like ben affleck to looking like michael keaton?
It makes sense in a multiverse context, but not in a back to the future context.

It's a good thing this is both multiverse and time travel (probably)

And Keaton then becomes the villain who eradicates all metahumans... With regards to multiple Batmans, if they go that route I’d suggest it’ll be a “escalating crisis” twist in the third act. Flash has problem. Goes back in time to fix problem. Returns to problem new future with Keaton Batman. Attempt to fix new future breaks reality. Multiple shards of reality colliding each have a different Batman actor surfing on them with terrible CGI borrowed from Die Another Day. Profit.

I guess on the face of it Flash going back to - I suppose - the mid-late 90s to save his mum doesn't make any sense if it was a butterfly effect that lead to everything else, including Keaton's Batman. After all, both Batman movies would have already happened, if you see what I mean.
But if I remember Flashpoint, there was other shit involved, so Barry time travelling was the start of it but there were "shenanigans" that changed a lot more stuff across the timeline.

The best thing about the trailer is the use of Elfman’s theme. If they had done that with Williams’s Superman theme there wouldn’t be enough tissues in the world to clean up the mess.

I understand why they’ve gone down the emo route for Supergirl but I’m not sure I’m a fan.

In her defence, in this it looks like she's spent most of her life in a Russian prison.

Batman the Animated Series and the Keaton Batman's mostly define my mental aesthetic for Batman still. E.g. the gothic, Art Deco vaguely timeless look of it all. Rather than just Snyder dark, in the most literal version of its just fucking dark.
