I have similar memories of the first half of An American Werewolf in Paris, which someone brought in to our school. No idea why the teachers even started showing that one. :-) |

BvS is the example you’re going for? It got awful reviews at the time and only a small loud group of people bang on about it being good. At best most claim it had one good fight scene (that lasts about 30 seconds). Seems a bit strange to claim a whole genre of action related films are shit compared to weird indie films and then talk about BvS like that’s some universally agreed high point. I think you don’t understand what I’m actually saying to the extent that you’re being deliberately obtuse, and will leave it there. |

The standard that DC films are held to, the bar they are measured against, _is_ the MCU. Fans justifiably want films which match the Avengers, or Iron Man. I thought BvS was horrible and the main action pieces were CGI shit fests. But in comparison to Ayer Suicide Squad and Justice League it's a bloody masterpiece.

One thing I’d never disagree with is that the people running DC films have been awful at their job, and hopefully the new management, James Gunn and Some Guy, can finally make a DC film universe what it could be. |

My only problem with that is that Bane is from South America and Bautista isn't. As I understand it his family is of Greek and South-East Asian descent, although I might be wrong.

Given Bane has thus far been played by
- generic muscly dude in gimp mask
- Tom Hardy doing a silly voice
A capable actor, invested in the character who possesses qualities for the role shouldn't be ignored because he's not the right sort of foreign

Gunn hasn't given a clear answer and makes it sound like some things are getting a straight reboot with new cast while others won't.
Only thing we know is Cavill and Dwayne are gone. Gal possibly and it sounds like Momoa is swapping Aquaman for Lobo.
Cena/Peacemaker staying and reports are they are trying to figure a way to add Pattersons Batman to the mix.
Still going with Flash settings up changes as they have recently done some reshoot though not sure how that will work with it coming out before Aquaman.
Doom Patrol and Titans have been cancelled.

Like I said on previous pages, you dont have to tie yourself up doing a flashpoint because nobody gives a shit. Gunn can just start again like nothing happened and if the first movie out of the door is decent, thats the flashpoint.

Yeah, if Marvel wanted to reboot they'd have to have some in-story reason* why Iron Man was now played by, I dunno, Donald Glover instead of RDJ. Because we've followed the series for 15 years and invested in the story and characters who've had interconnected narratives across 30+ movies and TV series.
The DC films barely pay lip service to one another outside of Snyder's direct involvement. It's probably how they can get away with The Batman and Joker, because even films nominally set in the same universe don't feel like they share the same world particularly.
*I mean, they wouldn't HAVE to, but I think a lot of people would find it weird if there wasn't at least an "end" to the current MCU.

They should only do it as a combined universe if there’s an actual reason to for the story. There are no plans for the current Batman to join the others in some sort of universe, probably because that’s got its own thing going on and is doing it reasonably well.
It’s hard to combine them all and it be anything better than a massive CGI fest that no one over 14 cares about. At least most of the Marvel stuff has tried to have a little more depth, that’s hard to do with a bunch of godlike beings.
