Snyder cut may be solid, but it’s also four fucking hours long. Nobody wants four hours of solid outside of the porn industry.

Most of the scenes people are talking about are from Batman Vs Superman too.
I don’t dislike ZSJL. It’s objectively a better film than the Whedon version. But it’s also way too overindulgent (the seemingly arbitrary decision to go 4:3 even though most of the film wasn’t shot in that ratio was a baffling decision that just felt like some sideways “this will make me an auteur mmmmm” thing) and it’s simultaneously too rushed and not fleshed out enough, because it’s structured like a Young Adult novel series where part 3 is where it’s all going to make sense - example, would anyone not familiar with Martian Manhunter have absolutely any idea as to what he’s doing in it? And once again the plot falls back on “Superman shows up to win the day at the end”.

I say this every time it comes up but ZSJL is a decent film but a great mini series.
A 90s mini-series, thanks to the fuckheaded 4:3.

Ugh.

I never was into American comics as a kid so forgive my ignorance.
My problem with DC superheroes (other than the Nolan's Batman) they're *too powerful*. There's no urgency or real danger because Superman will save the day and frankly they have silly childish names. Darkseid? Superman? Cheetah?
And why do Superman and Darkseid wear underwear over their clothes?
Marvel aren't any better even if they make objectively better films.

Wait, ZSJL is presented in 4:3?!
I’ve bounced off buying the 4K “to satisfy my curiosity” disc a few times, but the day may have come. I’d have been fucking outraged if I bought it and it was 4:3.

Yeah, it’s pretentious as fuck. 4 hours long? 4:3. There’s a black and white cut too.
And despite all that, it’s still terrible.

Yep. It's that kind of "I'm an auteur bullshit that make believe there's no way in hell this will be looked on with much appreciation over time." I don't even think it's in the greater public consciousness.

Thank you for saving me $14 and an epic tantrum. I was earlier going to say something mildly in defence of Snyder, now all I can see in my mind’s eye is that 40% of unused television.

Larry Fong is his cinematographer on just about everything, not him so I’m not sure I’d say he should do the cinematography. Maybe Larry should just get more credit for how the films look. After Snyder did the cinematography on Army of the Dead I'd suggest he sees an ophthalmologist as his eyes are very obviously fucked.

These are hardly problems unique to DC, and they stem from the original target audience being adolescent US boys in the 40s and 50s - it’s what sold comics to them, and now we are stuck with the silliness even though the characters have far outgrown their origins. It’s the same with all the Harry Potter childishness from the first two or three books being stuck as canon.

And Christopher Nolan’s trilogy has aged quite poorly imo. I think it’s going to go more and more downhill. Matt Reeves did him no favours by going more gritty, more real world, more dark. It leaves Bale’s Batman looking like a halfway house.

I agree with the notion that Snyder just totally misunderstands the DC characters. Well, maybe not misunderstands, but he's only really interested in a particular offshoot of their characterisation that I don't feel is a major facet in their 80-year history. For me, DC heroes - more than Marvel ones - represent optimism. Batman is dark, but the fact that he's got Robin means there's hope for the future. And Superman is all about hope. And I think in general, if you look through most of the big and successful DC eras, that's what stands out. Even Dark Knight Returns - which Snyder definitely, objectively misunderstood - has that great scene at the end, "It would be a good life - good enough". Miller shat on it with Dark Knight Strikes Again, but that's another story.
Anyway. I quite enjoyed the Whedon Justice League when I saw it, although I'd struggle to recommend it; learning about all the shit that went down has soured me on it quite a bit. The Snyder cut is probably a bit better but it's long and pretentious. Where I will be controversial, I guess, is that I think Whedon's finale is much, much better, the weird Russian family and terrible CGI notwithstanding.

Alien and Aliens are both 10/10, just different genres so comes down to preference. What sort of sexual deviant would prefer 3 though? They should be put on a list.

This is why Wonder Woman is the best of the justice-league-U movies. It's about optimism and hope and peace.
For original JL, don't a lot of the streaming services show an extended cut that adds in a bunch of stuff that was cut from the theatrical cut? Maybe I'm misremembering but I think that's the case. It's still not a great movie, and it's longer, but i think i heard it was improved over the original release.

Well, WW2 was about grief and loss. Not possibly the best choice for a rollicking family blockbuster... but at least it was interesting. I'll take a flawed interesting different movie over a flawless familiar middle-of-the-road movie anytime.
fwiw I don't think it's amazing or anything, but it has the benefit of being a DC movie which makes it look good by comparison.
