Superman 3 had it's moments, it was just all over the place tonally and veered into slapstick way too often.

I agree with everything said, but Supes 3 is still my favourite. It's my Callisto Protocol.

Yes, always had to fast forward that bit.
I love Superman 3. Very strange film and nostalgia probably plays a big part, but it’s full of heart and it’s good fun.

It really is a strange film, a Superman film with not a lot of Superman and more of a vehicle for Richard Pryor, a reduced budget resulting in things like Pryor describing a scene of Superman saving people and acting out himself instead of actually showing it and Superman has sex with Pamela Stephens Connolly. So, so, so strange.

Was anyone else terrified by Superman 3 when they were a kid? 10 year old me was kinda amused by the Richard Prior character and then completely demoralised by the bad superman part, uplifted when he was beaten only to be scared for life moments later by the vision of Vera's humanity being torn from he bit by bit as she was turned into a robot. The thing is about that film, as terrible as it is, it was at least memorable The woman being consumed by the computer and, for some reason, the boiling red shit, were completely horrifying, yes. I had fewer issues with The Evil Dead. Makes me want to watch that bit now to see what the fuss was about.

I absolutely fucking hate Superman 3. I hate it more than Superman 4. Which is unfair, because the bits with the evil Superman and Lana Lang and all that are really, really good. But the stupid slapstick comedy is so bad it ruins the rest of the film. This is a film where Richard Pryor plays a videogame to fight Superman but I still can't get behind it. Urgh.
Anyway. Onto the reboot stuff. I was hoping they'd keep Cavill, Gadot, and Margot Robbie, but to be honest a full-scale reboot is probably the best bet. Get rid of everyone and everything, even the good stuff, just to have a clean slate. The only thing that really disappointed me in Gunn's tweet was the acknowledgement that they're going younger. I think the biggest successes in the DCEU were when they leaned into the vastness and weirdness of DC; all those villains in The Suicide Squad, the Justice Society, the implication of a large Batman rogues' gallery, etc. I was hoping we'd get a Superman of Cavill's age, and a Batman aged about 40, just so we didn't need to establish every villain or sidekick as if they were brand new.
I mean, over thirty years after Burton's Batman, surely we could just "start" a Batman franchise with Robin, Nightwing, Batgirl and Oracle already kicking about? At this point that's not gonna seem weird or outlandish or anything. It'd have quite a nice sense of difference with what came before.

I wonder what will happen with Margot Robbie. She feels like one of the few that could possibly survive the reboot.

It’s hard for me to accept that the transformation sequence is all of ten seconds, if that. I was fucking lambasted by that shirt when I was a kid, maximum psychic damage.

Add me to the list of people scarred by that sequence in Superman 3. I remember really loving the movie though. I was young at the time though, and I wonder how it would hold up now. Always fancied Lana and thought the slapstick was great, plus the supes vs clark fight.

It was alright...ish. But the Birds of Prey TV show was better and the Harley Quinn tv show was far better, and it was too long.
I honestly have very little interest in young superman... it's been done to death already.
Then again, I'm having a hard time imagining Gunn doing anything that is remotely serious.

From what he has actually said it's Superman working for the Daily Planet but he'd be under 30 and he would already be aware of other superhumans and people like Lois Lane and Lex Luthor. So it's not starting from scratch and it's not in school or university.

Oh yeah, it's basically how Matt Reeves approached Batman. I get it. I just wish they'd drop us into a universe that's already had superheroes for 5-10 years and we can already have legacy characters like Nightwing kicking about, or even Harley Quinn operating as her own agent rather than being in thrawl to the Joker. Just stuff like that, stuff that you don't need to explain particularly if you just say "these guys have been around a while." It's the best thing Snyder did, casting an older Batman, and then most of the rest of the films utterly failed to explore this unique and interesting aspect.
Also Birds of Prey was great, love that film. But if they're recasting everyone they should recast everyone, Robbie included.

Saw the latest trailer for Shazam 2 today and I can't wait for it, I still think the original film is the highlight of the DCEU and I'm glad Dwayne Johnson wanted nothing to do with it.

While I enjoyed the film, Johnson was the worst thing about it, when people leave the cinema wanting more of the Justice Society support cast than the protagonist then it's got problems.

Didn’t help that Pierce Brosnan’s pantomime acting when he puts on his golden CGI helmet makes it look like he’s rubbing his face with a flannel.
Also thinking back, I think Superman 3 was my first superhero film. Hell of a way to kick things off.

Henry is only 39!
I really linked the idea of an old grizzled batman.. shame they never really managed to follow through on it. I'm sure it's less marketable, but I'd rather they went for an ageing superman than a young one.
Chris Pratt for Superman?
