I watched The Synder Cut this weekend. Definitely a better film than the theatrical cut but that’s not saying much. I still can’t understand how his fans think his films are good, and that he should be reinstated, never mind that they’re somehow better than the MCU.

The big problem I have with his work is that they never have any kind of message. It's just good guys have to beat bad guys in a series of CG battles.
The only bit of drama in the whole Justice League film is the decision whether to resurrect Superman, and that battle after. You could skip everything else apart from the end scene and not miss any real character growth or story.

So is he better or worse than Michael Bay?

Much worse, IMO. Michael Bay movies tend to be fun, if not good. Snyder movies are dreary and not good.

I believe Snyder's JL was a much better product but that's not hard when you have 4 hours to do that. I still never understand the auteur label from his most rabid of fans.

I think he’s an auteur, in the sense that you could be watching one of his movies and think “I bet Zack Snyder directed this.” I do have the sense though that an auteur has probably written the script and has an original concept.

Very weird timing. Can't see Cavill going back to The Witcher, think his thoughts on the writing have been known. Wouldnt be surprised if Marvel have already put out the feelers.
Does give you the impression that DC doesn't know what it's doing. I think any pretense of a DCU should be scrapped, all of their best movies in recent times have been disassociated from it and serve a nice balance to Marvels oversaturation where every movie feels like you have to do your homework before hand.

While Cavill is undoubtedly fine, financially, this will make him look a bit like a twat for binning The Witcher when all the signs were there for a new Superman.
Gunn can say they have talked about exciting opportunities but it will surely mean fuck all at this point.

Well if they are potentially moving Momoa to Lobo they can always give Cavill a new role as well.

I don't really care about Henry, but what about Gal?
Imho it'd be nuts to ditch her, but on the other hand I can't see how they can keep only *one* existing character without it being really weird and confusing.

They fucked Cavil hard.
A little gutted that we won't see a sequel to Man of Steel but at least we're still getting a new superman movie.
It's going to be smallville the movie 🙈

Every single DC film has been fucking dreadful so it's absolutely the right thing to do to go with a completely clean slate. And as dreamy as Cavill is he has all the charisma of a cold beige turd.

Weird. Gunn tweeted recently slagging off some film leak site regarding Cavill, that no decision was made and implying he was coming back.
A day or two later he gets the chop. Cavill seems like a professional and a decent guy who was genuinely keen to reprise the role. Why fuck him around or get into misleading exchanges on Twitter?
It just alienates the fan base.
