Jonathan Kent in MoS is the worst version in any depiction I've seen. I hated that character. He and (save) Martha are supposed to be where Superman gets his moral compass from, not some guywho thinks it would have been ok to let a bus full of kids die.

Superman is hard to do. MOS got the action right in that no way a guy like him can be fighting aliens without causing serious damage. But they got Clark completely wrong and I really hate how they killed Jonathan Kent. Snyder can direct but should have little to 0 input on story and not be allowed to use slow mo(which added 20+ minutes to Justice League) You mean you didn't enjoy the Amazon war cry music with slow mo every time Wonder Woman was on the screen in Justice League??? Funny thing is Snyder says he's not even a big fan of slow mo. Also get rid of the pointless singing women and he really couldn't think of a better way to make this crash happen?

Yeah. IGN left out the bit that WB said it had WW84 style problems. Gunn apparently gave her feedback saying some things would need to change due to the path they are taking the DCU. Really enjoyed WW1 but 2 bugged me so much. Largely due to storyline wise no one knew about her in the present and then they go and say ohb yeah all this crazy shit happened in the 80s but no one seems to know about it. Didn't she have a similar style of walk out with Marvel over Thor 2?

Iām not saying Superman is all bad, just that heās the worst comics character ever, going all the way back to his beginnings.
Contrast him, if you will, to the best comics character ever, Batman. I used to have this awesome trade paperback of Batman strips from like the 40s or something, and they were genuinely Detective Comics, and heād solve the day through wit, then punch some cunt out at the end.
Superman would just invent some bullshit new thing he could do in every frame. āMy Super-hearing allows me to summon SuperBees by attuning the frequency of their buzzing with my SuperHumming! But first Iāll stop time!ā It seemed aimed at tiny children whoād swallow anything.
Obviously the 60s Batman show was similar, with Shark Repellent at hand when needed, but the 60s show was going against established norms for Batman and is awesome anyway. He still didnāt regularly whip out a laundry list of stupid new powers when the writers couldnāt be bothered having him think his way out of something.
āAh!ā you may say ābut Superman has been so much more developed than he was 80 years ago!ā and thatās fair, BUT, heās still a cunt. CASE CLOSED.
Seriously though, while I guess thereās stuff to explore with a god-man character whose only real weakness is the people he cares for, Iāve always felt the reason he endures is because heās the most basic-bitch childās power-fantasy ever come up with. He can do anything! Heās handsome! He dresses in a barely-disguised American flag! And, like America, and Jesus, heās coming to save us!
Heās also the honour of having the single most impossible to accept feature of any comic book character ever: that no one notices Clark Kent is Superman. This will NEVER elevate above 60s Batman TV levels of wackiness, itās fucking absurd, and if you come at me with something like ābut Alan Moore said that he uses quantum defribulation in his super-nostrils to bend light and literally looks different to other people when Clark Kentā I swear my disdain will travel back in time and destroy you in the crib, which is a power I just made up but this is a lot of disdain Iām talking about here.
I donāt think people who like the character should feel ashamed or anything, just accept that heās the worst of all comic book characters. It goes Batman < every Marvel character < Superman.

If youāre arguing that Supes is literally the worst of all comic characters with no hyperbole, then all that really shows is you know very little about comics.

I'm not a comic book guy but seeing some of the z list DC characters in the Injustice games confirms that Superman is definitely not the worst superhero. That being said, he is the shittest of the big ones for me.

Iāll qualify that itās characters that headline an actual book. It would be too easy to hold up some one-issue villain, but even then, Iād have to check. With the right writer, Polka-Dot Man was a better character than Superman. You could then argue that a good writer could make Superman good, ut youād be wrong. Heās fundamentally the worst character.
Anyway, agree to disagree and all that.

This is nothing new, but I feel like Superman works better in comic form than in movies. His main issue is that he's too powerful, with his only Kryptonite being, well, kryptonite. That makes it hard to put him in fight scenes etc... In the comics you can have his internal thoughts 'on screen' in thought bubbles, and make the stories much more simple externally.
I remember a lot of the old superman comics being quite good, when he was up against weird aliens or magic or trying to solve mysteries and work out what was going on and who was behind it. A lot of his movies have fallen into the trap of needing to set up some massive threat for him to face off against, resulting in boring face offs with cgi villains.
Oddly, Superman 1 and 3 were probably the best for avoiding this.

I mean, Batman is really the only DC hero that most would put above Superman. Maybe a few would have Wonder Woman. But beyond that youāve got about twenty or so mainstream heroes and a few hundred lower tier that are almost without debate shitter than Superman.
People are entitled to their opinions, but honestly, thatās a terrible one.

Iāve never really liked Batman for the similar reasons to why I didnāt really dig SM: Miles Morales. The strong āwho asked you?ā vibes that make you empathise with the criminals.
Superman fights supervillains because who else can? Batman is just a busybody who likes beating normal dudes up. Get a job.
And stop exploiting children.

Ooh, Squirrel Girl is terrible, yeah That is Sally Acorn, Chimpunk Freedom Fighter, sir! It is a funny post with the Sonic avatar, as youāve pointed out, but Iāve never liked the ācomedy character WITH THE POWER TO DESTROY THE UNIVERSEā gimmick they gave her. I like funny banter between characters, but Iām not a fan of characters created just to be comedic. Not a fan of Deadpool either, for that reason.

Who's better, Batman or Superman? They should write a story where they fight each other, that'll settle the argument once and for all.

Yeah, Aquaman is shit, waaaaay shitter than Superman. Peter David wrote Aquaman, gave him a beard and a hook-hand, and it was great. Heās got a real talent for taking characters that sound terrible, like Hulk, and giving a great valance of drama and comedy to them thatās very humanising. Aquaman generally sounds like a straight-to-video knock-off of Namor, but I enjoyed what I read of the Peter David run.

I'm not a comic reader but Superman is by far my favourite superhero.
The latest iterations of the films have all focused on him being an Alien with super powers with the carnage that comes with it.
The TV series focus more on the development of an orphan immigrant who's trying to understand his place in the world and reconcile two seeming conflicting heritages. That "deeper" character is what what really makes Superman my favourite super hero.
It would be nice if someone could make a film that encompasses the deeper character and the action.
MoS started off so promising and then descended into chaos. I still love the film but it was also disappointing.

If you consider Superman was created by two Jewish immigrants in the era of the Nazis, the alien angle is where the real character depth is.
Hollywoodās somewhat ironic obsession with portraying him as a Christ figure loses all or that.
