Bautista as Bane is excellent casting Really fitting with him being Latino too. He's Greek/Filipino, I think. He is an ex-wrestler at least?

Yeah, it's not unprecedented, and I'm not even mad at the idea of Big Dave as Bane. He's certainly closer than Tom Hardy was.

For a hot second there I forgot that Dark Knight Rises existed, so had a picture in my head of Batman & Robin with Tom Hardy as Bane.

Considering Dev Patel played David Copperfield, and two series in hasn’t done a single magic trick; surely we are passed this superficial nonsense?

It was meant to be a joke. David Copperfield being a literary character and a famous magician. There were loads of complaints of Dev Patel being cast in the role. It probably seemed funnier in my head.

TV rather than film, but I've been considering picking up Batman: The Animated Series on Blu-ray, as I regularly hear how good it is.
Is it actually good though or is just better than you would expect for a cartoon Batman show?

Maybe try watching mask of the phantasm first and see if you get a taste for it? Less of a commitment.
I'm a huge fan, but perhaps wouldn't be if I didn't have such a fondness of it from my childhood.

It's great, providing you like Batman and cartoons. Can't really go wrong. I bought it all recently on Apple as it was on sale.

Might give Mask of the Phantasm a go. It isn't on any streaming platform, but see it is available on a certain archive site.
I know the voice actors are in the Arkham games and they are all great.

It's good but expect that typical TV format. Batman comes off as a massive rookie a lot of the time even against simple thugs.
But it has some brilliant episodes.

It is far, far darker than a lot of stuff from the time. Really hard to understate just how pioneering it was and an absolute staple of young nerd watching through the 90s.

It's a genuine classic. The later Justice League series by the same team is also excellent, though a bit lighter in tone.

That’s got to be one of the shortest cinema to retail windows outside of the big Covid shutdown. Wonder if it was rushed in following the terrible box office.

That means it should hit HBO Max too, so I can watch it without directly paying for it.

Applies to every DC film since the first Wonder Woman, and more than a few before it, IMHO. Shazam was okay. I will give you that. I struggle to understand how we can get so many bad DC films though. They are head and shoulders more ingrained in pop culture than Marvel characters. They have so many great stories to draw influence from. But they only seem to get modern Batman films right. Wonder Woman they have one good, one bad. Superman, I enjoyed some of the TV shows, but Christopher Reeves was the only cinematic version. Batman, they have the Keaton and Lego films. The Pattison one was okay, and whilst I am not a fan, the Nolan films are well received. The other modern ones aren’t good. They should be though.

Everyone says Aquaman is ok, though I really can't be arsed to try it any more than Black Adam.
PS/ I think it and shazam are on iTV hub, or at least they were a few days ago.
They should make a Harley Quinn animated movie.

I'm not a fan of most "adult animation" shows, or shows featuring usually-family-friendly characters that are full of swears or violence (I find them all a little try-hard and edgelord-y) but Harley Quinn is fantastic. It's really funny, the DC jokes come from a place of both knowledge and affection, and it also has a good story and really well-defined characters.

^ Yep. I also usually hate 'adult' animation shows, but it's very fun. It's on all4 if you don't have access to it anywhere without ads.

Black Adam was saved (or made borderline tolerable as it were) by the Justice Society, who were at least likable. Beyond that it's the usual superhero bobbins shitshow.
They're all the same at this stage, even the once dependable MCU seems to have descended into bland competence at best lately, which almost aggravates me more to be honest.
The whole genre is in dire need of a shake-up.
Sorry, beating that drum again.
The Batman wasn't bad, probably the last of these films that wasn't forgotten by the time I got to my car.

The Justice Society were terrible too. The two younger members were likeable, but Doctor Fate and Hawkman, why are they so determined to stop Black Adam? They see he's fighting an actual oppressive regime and their only goal is still to stop Adam. It's such a stupid movie.
