I never envisioned Spike to be 50, which is going to take some getting used to. But, to be fair, there are only two Asian actors working in Hollywood, John Cho and that Japanese guy who plays The Japanese Guy in everything and he's even more elderly.

I was going to say "Hey, what about..." then realised I was thinking of John Cho.

A new bunch of Movies That Made Us is up. Halloween specials it seems. Aliens is in there. There is Nightmare on Elm Street, Friday the 13th, Halloween, Aliens, Coming to America, Robocop, Elf and The Nightmare before Christmas. I've already watched Aliens and Robocop which were interesting, but jeez, episodes of The Movies That Made Us are always a challenging watch, with the quick-fire, schizophrenic editing and an annoying narrator. It's a shame 4 of the 8 episodes this series are about films in the horror genre, which I have zero interest in. I suppose the stop-motion animation in The Nightmare Before Christmas could be interesting (although I assume it was just a painstaking, arduous process) but I'll happily watch any of the horror episodes if certain facets of the production were interesting in and of themselves.

I'd recommend Untold: Crime and Penalties, a documentary about the Danbury Trashers ice hockey team owned by a mob boss and managed by his son. Really interesting story.
There are other episodes in the Untold documentary series, but I haven't watched them yet.
In the same vein, there's the Bad Sport documentary series. I've watched the first 3 episodes and they were pretty interesting (especially the first episode about college basketball match fixing) but I enjoyed Untold: Crime and Penalties way more.

Benedict Wong is the one for me. He randomly crops up in major blockbusters, and now a fairly major character in the MCU, and then also he shows up in The IT Crowd and Peter Serafinowicz's stuff.

Honestly, Spike never came off as Asian to me. I know there's the thing about Asian representation in Hollywood, and there was the backlash about them not casting an Asian actor for Iron Fist, but I think the major issue in that case is that they just stunt-cast a GOT supporting actor for the clout, and he was neither good at kung fu nor very charismatic as a performer. Had they hired a young Van Damme type, I think a lot of the backlash would've been diminished. Also, the scripts for those were pretty problematic as well, with Danny Rand studying kung fu in China, then coming back and teaching Collen about her own culture. Okay guy. But Spike. His name is Spike Spiegel. He's thin and has a jewfro. I always pictured him as a Jewish guy from Brooklyn. Jet could've been the Japanese representation to tie it to the source material. There's no cultural markers for that character. In fact, Ken Watanabe mentioned above would've been perfect in the role. He's older, taller, muscular, and wouldn't have to do much physical action. Faye always seemed more Asian to me too, but that one could be because she had a very 90s anime look to her, which just reads Japanese to me.
EDIT: Having said that, I just watched the trailer at the end of the last page, and it's a lot more promising than the preview teaser. I'm back onboard.

Watching s3 ep12 of Archer, and had to google 'Moab'. Given the context, laughed so hard I've got a stitch. I ignored Archer for years but that was a mistake, it is consistently brilliant, pretty much from the first episode. Highly recommended.

Archer is still great up to season 7. S8 onwards they try a few different things, still good.

It shocks me to say it but Arcane:League of Legends is absolutely terrific stuff.
Outstanding animation style, tied to coherent and plausible writing.
I have no clue about League of Legends myself, never played it, but this stands on its own.
Terrific, 3 episodes available.

Very, but I watched the entire first season in spite of it being shite, so I must have got something out of it. I felt the same about Snowpiercer and watched it all. Both watchable shite.

Red Notice 7/10 Quite enjoyed it, formulaic stuff yes (with a nice twist).
Ryan Reynolds, does his thing, i.e. a toned down Deadpool, and has some chucklesome quips. Dwayne is thankfully not asked to be funny, just play the beefcake, and Gadot is fine, mighty fine.
It all moves along at brisk pace not really dragging anywhere. Just what I was looking for.
Better than I expected given the sniffy previews I had seen

Seinfeld on Netflix is such an awesome addition, however, is anyone else getting a really grainy image, almost looks like a filter - it's distracting sometimes. I'll put up with it. Season 5 is the perfect place to step back in.

I've been watching a lot of Netflix's (and Amazon's) stand up selections, and most of it is pretty average, but have to say that I enjoyed Marcus Brigstocke's Devil May Care - the Devil schtick works well, and I like the caustic style.
Bah, I'm an idiot - this was on Prime.

Surge
A British film of a guy who goes nuts in his boring job and then goes on an unhinged journey across London.
It's Falling Down UK edition. A bit too much annoying shakey cam, but quite good and I thought pretty funny.
8.5/10

Season 5 is the perfect place to step back in. I think they did an AI upscale on the old 1080p one and fucked up the DNR. I dont think thats grain, I just think thats noise from the AI trying to decide whats there. Its horrible. That and the fact that it looks like its been upscaled from the cropped 16:9 version rather than the original film means things like the infamous missing pothole from the episode 'pothole' will still be missing. I dont like to use the word unwatchable but its really not good.

Snowpiercer actually gets better though, where a s Another Life actually gets worse as it goes on yes finished all episodes of both of those series... not sure why. Keep on with Snowpiercer especially if Sean Bean chewing scenary is your thing he has lots of fun.

I complain about Prime having this problem but 4OD might be the worst for discovering new content.
If its not Bake Off, Gogglebox or Made In Chelsea good luck

Only 6 episodes in but Arcane has to be the best video game adaptation I've ever seen. Every animated frame looks like it could be a painting. Writing and VA is top-notch as well.
