I dunno about that, but I personally fucking hate it. The Boks turning the entire game into ALL FORWARDS is just shit. I don't watch the game for lardos hitting lardos for 80 mins, there's more to it. I mean I don't want to watch it either, I want to watch Finn doing Finn things all day. At the end of the day it's just a calculated risk that your fly-half or fullback doesn't go down injured. So it seems like a bad plan to me, but not one that makes you a right bastard.

Yeah but I'd focus on stopping people pinning players in rucks, ban teams from milking scrum penalties somehow, caterpillar rucks etc. Ah fuck it I'd reduce a penalty to 2 pts and make the kicking rules for penalties and conversions the same as each other.

Like last week's game, that was a fun watch; also like last week's game, my lack of emotional investment in this England side helps enormously on the enjoyment front. Indeed, I'm starting to suspect that whatever goodwill I feel towards Borthwick is purely down to the fact that he's not Eddie Jones.
As before, confusion abounds:
- What the hell is Slade doing there? He has never truly done the proverbial business in an England shirt, to the best of my recollection, and right now he's out of form and fitness as well. Play Lozowski instead.
- At least Ford has banked enough credit to make his inclusion semi-understandable, but he too is lacking in game time. Let Fin Smith have a crack in the next two matches, and bring Ford back for the Six Nations if his club form between now and then actually merits a callback.
- Why is Jamie George the captain? I like and rate him - for a Saracens player, anyway - but when it's standard operating procedure to replace your front row en masse after 50 minutes, having a hooker as captain seems daft. Give it to Itoje from the outset and instill a bit of consistency.
- Putting Ford on and switching Smith to full-back made marginally more sense than replacing the latter with the former, but I still don't see the point - leave Smith at 10, and keep Furbank (a better 15 than Smith) where he is. Bringing on Ford isn't mandatory, Steve!
- I hope the new defence coach didn't sign a long contract, based upon the number of missed tackles we saw from England this afternoon, or it'll cost the RFU an arm and a leg to get rid of him.
- Randall is a very good club player, but he looks like a rabbit in the headlights whenever he's chosen for England. Give Quirke a shot, or even bring back JVP.
Positives: Smith (as always), Cunningham-South, Martin.
Congratulations to Australia - they played brilliantly, and deserved the win.

Hmmm Reffell was lucky to only get a yellow. This game is kinda rubbish but quite funny.

Right Scotland up last to try and get a Home Nations/Lions eligible win of the weekend. Head, Heart, Arse:
Head says we'll front up for a while, score some good tries and then get crushed into powder by that bench. But there's some pride to take from it all. This Scotland team are good and they really need to start unlocking these really tight teams that thwart us. Plus Glasgow went and did it to the Bulls in Praetoria
Heart, we get a famous win and finally knock on from being plucky losers.
Arse, we get absolutely fucked again like at the World Cup.

It was a really poor decision by TNT Sports to pay David Flatman by the word.

Gah the hope kills me. There's a lot to be incredibly proud of there. The red was pure bullshit and one of the Bok tries was just a fluke. It felt like it should be a 5pt game, one we lost but still. In the end our bench was just shitter. That last 10 minutes was just high balls to cause knock ons, milking penalty scrums and that last 10 points was something we could not withstand. Our bench, especially the props, are just flat out not as good.
Eliot Millar-Mills, god bless him, is no Vincent Koch.

I've just seen the red card in the Scotland vs. South Africa game. Yikes!
https://www.reddit.com/r/rugbyunion/comments/1go4iev/scott_cummings_yellow_card/
Targeting the lower limbs at a ruck is a real cheap-shot move, and I'm happy for it to be punished whenever there's reason to suspect malice or recklessness, but I don't see either here. Harsh on Cummings, and on Scotland by extension.

Harsh on Cummings, and on Scotland by extension. Really shit decision to go yellow in the first place, let alone red. There's no "Croc roll" anywhere, it's just a really messy ruck that goes wrong for 16 varying reasons and because someone - who knows who that might even be - has landed on an unfortunate leg in extreme slow motion it cannot be treated as a rugby incident, or, y'know, one those rucks we see 8+ times in every match Very weird decision and it still isn't clear that the right player is going to be on the beak this week.

Yeah he looked to be driving pretty straight to me then Hendrikse stands up underneath him knocking him off balance. Really weird call. There's a disciplinary panel tonight. If he gets banned for the next games it'll be peak idiocy.
What did you think of the game generally? I thought Scotland managed to match South Africa's physicality for a good 65 70 minutes which is unheard of for us. So I'm taking it as a positive. Not many teams could defend that level of ferocity as well as the Boks do.

I thought SA were off the boil and Scotland were doing all the right things using their backs to befuddle that defence and keep their forwards running. They could have grabbed that game - the red arguably did them a favour by focusing them a bit more in that respect through being down a forward. So get it to Finn, Jones and Co and get running. Your pack was supporting that brilliantly.
But they just could. not. finish and it had me yelling at times, especially during the card and around the 50-70min mark when they really seemed to have the bit between their teeth. That disallowed try was a shitter as well, I hadn't realised the TMO can now chalk it off after the conversion has gone over - that didn't used to be the case.
I really wanted you to win that. I'm biased because I think Rassie is a fucking barrel headed arsecunt that has managed to both paint SA rugby as the victims of every decision while taking advantage of every little loophole he can find to find success, like the medics, waterbreaks, those fucking lights*. I also personally have no time for changing the entire forward pack and other facets of negative rugby that I just don't feel are in the spirit of the sport overall. I don't care if it'slegal. It's shit and replacements need to be looked at instead of 20 minute red cards
*he's also been very successful in making SA rugby fans totally unbearable on twitter as a direct result

Danno Exactly! I get the need to back officials, especially when a contentious decision had a big impact upon the game in question, but that has to be balanced against the need to go, "Okay, we got that one wrong" every once in a while. Either way, it's as weak an endorsement of Sunday's red card as you're likely to see.
