Well said zephro. Think your forwards would benefit massively from another head So many games I can see the overlap. I can see Finn yelling till he's blue in the face. Then they just smash against the line until they're held up. How do you coach it out of them? Their captain and fly half is fucking shouting at them. You'd drop them for being dozzie pricks but there's noone to actually replace them with so it's an empty threat. Sigh.

Need a proper forwards coach. And some forwards that can be coached, a few of your lads might have done all they can and could be beyond further learning.

The back row are good as it's genuinely competitive. Zander is really good but can go missing. Everyone else tends to be meh. Turner is great in the loose but then he just loses it and all the lineouts go to shit for 20 minutes.

What the hell happened to the Grays? They were amazing but the lineout has been torn to bits

Richie went through the same for years. Missed all the 6N but has had a renaissance at Glasgow he was instrumental in winning the URC. We tend to roll him out like Sexton though as he's held together with that tape.

I like it in general. I couldn't give a fuck about how the other teams react to it though. So long as they aren't encroaching on the thing I don't mind if the other team fuck off down the other end and do practice runs, why should anyone be forced to receive one teams particular form of bullshit (however much I've always liked it)? It seems like a genuine scheduling mismatch in this case, but to be honest, I could do without flyovers and timed firework displays more than enforced receiving of one cultures traditional 'challenge' 9 times out of 10.

grey_matters Fair comments, one and all. While I find the haka itself to be goofy as hell, and would be glad to see this particular tradition wither and die, what bothers me more is the deference the All Blacks and their supporters expect from everyone else. There have been so many trifling 'controversies' in this regard over the years, with Saturday's scheduling snafu being the latest example - does any of it *really* matter at the end of the day? Do your little dance if you absolutely must, but stop getting all pissy when the opposition/their supporters/the TV networks/etc. don't react to it in exactly the fashion you demand!

Re the weekend game I can’t believe how often sa manage to grind to victory from near defeat and how often they get the rub of the green on close ref decisions. Their first try was so clearly a knock on but was given and late on there were a couple of dodgy calls against nz. Great game though, it’s always such a close tense clash between them.

While I agree they are kinda precious about the whole thing I do still enjoy a Haka.

Not too long after Anthony Foley died, I had tickets to see the Maori All Blacks v Munster. They did the haka, and presented A thing Foley's son with a jersey.
I had always liked the haka, due to my dad always enjoying it and the All Blacks in general. I think the opposing team should be free to do whatever they want though while it's being performed.
Anyway, my wife refused to finish up at work at an appropriate time (the thing she was doing was entirely voluntary) and we were late and missed the haka and the presentation of the jersey.
I don't think I'll ever get to see it now.

I just like weird old traditions that stop rugby being too boringly corporate I guess. Like the Welsh have that military goat, they should do more with th military goat.

I was tempted, but no I'll just bring it up every now and then forever until she's so annoyed about it when I die she'll do the haka on my grave

Saw NZ do the Haka when they played Wales in Cardiff a fair few years ago - quite enjoyed it.

I prefer the Haka to things like the overplaying and over embellishment of the US national anthem before sporting events, but I do think it's a bit ridiculous it has this protected status. I have seen it live and it's kind of fun spectacle, but I personally found it less affecting than some of the Welsh or Scottish pre-match hymns belted out by a choir of thousands, and I'm English.
I'd say it should be up to the opponent whether they get to do it or not. They've only agreed to play a rugby match after all. If they're in agreement by all means have it and it should be treated with utmost respect. If it's imposed then there shouldn't be any obligation to respond in any particular way.
I've always wondered what the English should do with a 2min freestyle slot before the game. Perhaps a bit of Morris dancing?

muddyfunster The haka requiring the agreement of both teams - sort of like having the roof closed at the Millennium Stadium - is an interesting idea. What bugs me most about this topic is the notion of the haka automatically deserving respect, as well as the Kiwis having the final say on what constitutes a respectful response (and woe betide anyone who falls short of their expectations). If the Wallabies want to recreate Raygun's breakdancing routine, Scotland feel like doing the YMCA, and the fourth official fancies showing off his freestyle skills, the All Blacks should have to stand there and watch. Respectfully, of course.

I feel like the haka can carry on, but unless it's part of your culture (Fiji, Samoa, Tonga, NZ) you don't have to acknowledge it. The anthems are the mark of mutual respect that *everyone* is involved with, so if the other side has another element to their warm up then be quiet and have a huddle or something while they do it. I don't say "amen", sing, or recite the Lord's prayer when I have to go to a funeral or something, I shut up, stare into space and ignore it.
You crack on kids, I'm not going to be a hypocrite, and I'm not going to disrespect you.
Probably not my finest analogy.

By not reciting the Lords Prayer, you're effectively resigning the deceased to eternal damnation - just saying.

I prefer to think of myself as "tired and emotional"
Honestly, though, I'm sober as Mike Judge - I think that's the expression.
Just trying to dilute some of my sardonic anti-haka takes a bit, is all (and I really do value everyone else's input!). Might've overdone it a tad, but I figure everyone's used to that by now.

I have a niche tech complaint. I'm trying to watch back the Scotland Wales women's match from yesterday on the iPlayer app. No amount of searching "Women's rugby" "Women's international" "Scotland Wales" etc. worked, I think because it's on BBC Alba so partially in Gaelic. So after just using google I worked out it was on BBC Alba, I look up the schedule from yesterday to dig it out.
Series: "Ruigbaidh air BBC Alba / Rugby on BBC Alba" Episode: "Women's International Scotland v Wales"
Like how did the search not fucking work? Almost certainly it decided it just wouldn't show Gaelic programs, but how that's going to help fucking grow the game when like 100,000 people speak Gaelic. Fuck's sake.

The new Wales alt kit is rancid. It looks like the "Italia" kit you'd get in a video game with no actual rights.
