100 people killed today queuing for food. Fuck the Israeli government and fuck the IDF. I felt the IDF response was inevitable and due to Hammas being embedded in the population the death toll of innocents would be high. It now feels like it's gone beyond a military operation into lawless slaughter without any accountability. There is no repercussion nor control over idf is doing. And majority of Israel population wants Jewish only Israel. So they don't care.

Unfortunately support for a 2 state solution has decreased drastically among both right-wing Jewish Israelis and Arab Israelis. Left wing Jewish Israelis seem to be the only ones who still support it. (this is before the most recent Hamas attacks of course) And right wingers seem to be in the majority. www.pewresearch.org/short-reads/2023/09/26/israelis-have-grown-more-skeptical-of-a-two-state-solution/Personally, I think one of the major issues has always been that the US will unconditionally support Israel, which basically removes them from almost all international repercussions or accountability. Plus it fosters the kind of anti Israel/US/imperial views that often appear on the left. It's similar to the way that China's unconditional support of North Korea enables them to continue with things that they probably couldn't get away with if they were on their own. (Not saying Israel is broadly similar to North Korea, only in the aspect of having a world superpower who basically always has their back no matter what they do). It'd be nice if the US was a lot firmer with Israel when necessary, especially publicly. But I don't see it ever happening.

Apparently the Terminator played when his coffin descended. Gotta admit, that's very tempting to have for mine.

Over 30,000 dead and apparently over 20,000 of those are women and children.
Israel reckons they've killed 10,000 Hamas fighters, but that would mean basically every adult male is a Hamas fighter, which seems unlikely. They initially estimated that Hamas had 30,000 fighters.
Since Israel has gone on record as thinking that a rate of 2 civilians to 1 Hamas fighter was really good, the numbers mostly add up. Though their assumption of those 10,000 men all being fighters seems very iffy.
Their initial response being driven by shock and anger was entirely predictable and somewhat understandable, but the US, UK etc... really needed to be much firmer with them much earlier that their extended response needed to be much more focused.

Just putting this out there, but maybe the claims Hamas keep making arenât entirely trustworthy either? You know what with them being a terrorist organisation funded by a state thatâs entire purpose is to delegitimise Israel.

First casualty in war is truth, etc.
While I would always question Gaza/ Hamas' telling of events, we're seeing daily pictures of women and children in peril. The UN is doing its own reporting now.
Israel has every right to defend itself and, for me, probably has to maintain some level of aggression given the unique situation and borders it finds itself in.
But it probably also needs the help of the international community to work out how best to effectively conduct itself because, from a PR point, this isn't going well.
I'll also point out that it only seems to be this and Ukraine that people are concerned about. Armenia, Burma and Yemen seemed to pass people by.

I doubt they'd be 100% accurate even if the source was 100% trustworthy, what with the difficulties of identifying and tracking such things in disaster areas and war zones.
Afaik the UN considers the Hamas health ministry's figures to have been mostly accurate though.
The media and people's group attention spans are limited, and they only seen to be able to deal with one issue at a time. Even Ukraine got largely pushed out of the news by Gaza.

Thereâs obviously huge propaganda being thrown about by both sides, but the US Sec of Defense used that number of dead civilians in front of congress, so I think we can take it with a degree of confidence. Not to mention all of the photos and videos of disgusting behavior by IDF soldiers. Itâs so so grim.

I hope NATO accession finally being sorted means we'll step up support for Ukraine a bit more. All of parliament is for it, we have the largest popular support for helping Ukraine in the world, and the only country with a more negative view of Russia is Poland. Most aid is stuff we produce ourselves, so most of the spending is on our own industry. Get on it, government.

I'm so excited, who is going to win the Presidential election in Russia today? I bet it's close between Putin and Putin, although maybe Putin will triumph?

Unless I've missed some, Ukraine has hit seven or eight refineries inside Russia with drones in just the past week. Apparently a major airport in Moscow today as well. How much damage they've done is unclear, but at least some of the refineries are confirmed to have shut down. That's more attacks inside Russia in a week than the past 2 months combined and Russia already stopped all exports of refined fuels before this to protect their own market. It will be interesting to see what happens if they keep it up.
Out of curiosity I looked up some Russian oil and gas pipelines and there are tens of thousands of kilometers of them inside Russia. I'm guessing Ukraine stays away from them (for now) since it would likely piss of other countries. Still, crude oil and gas is 30%-ish of the Russian export economy, and that much infrastructure would be impossible to defend if Ukraine gets desperate.

Only 88% of the vote, tough race *eyeroll*
"These results show the trust of the Russian people" says guy that set up voting stations in the fucking Russia-occupied parts of Ukraine...

Only getting 88% of the vote when you're basically the only candidate and control all the media and polling stations is a bit shit if you ask me.
If that's the best Putin can manage with a totally stacked deck, imagine how bad his polling numbers would be in a remotely free or fair election.
