Yeah, Halo's barely a "huge thing" anymore. Crazy when you think how huge the Halo 3 launch was (I was working in Currys at the time).
Biggest fear of Microsoft coming out of the hardware business is that Sony lose all competition and they're a lazy, complacent company when out in front (though this isn't exclusive to Sony).

I think all the rumours are bollocks so far. It's obvious they are just going to announce Peggle 3 next week.

So if the worst of the rumours are true. The FTC was correct all along just not in the way they thought.

Although I got carried away with my own excitement, I think it’s just going to be a case of software going multi platform with Xbox users getting a 3 - 6 month head start and access through Gamepass.
That would be really unexciting, but far less drastic.

Would I buy The Master Chief collection on Switch? Maybe not.
Would I buy Peggle on Switch? Absolutely!

Wow. There's a real "end of an era" feeling in the air It must really be devastating for the fanboys. To have so much attachment to a plastic box only to have everything crumble before you. It's losing what was seemingly a neverending "war", fought on internet forums and playgrounds. But I hope it's not quite so severe and Xbox sticks around making hardware I just can't picture Sony being the only one in the console space, let alone picture it as a good thing. Maybe the market is primed for the Ouya 2. Of course it will all be for nothing when Microsoft announce next week that they've bought Sony Interactive Entertainment. *ahem* Users who liked this post but did not like my previous attempt at the same joke have been noted and taken OFF the christmas card list. This isn't some sort of game.

I wonder if they'll add some sort of sweetener for current Xbox owners?
If the general rumours are true and if Xbox was my only console I'd be a little miffed that any exclusives coming out will also be on other systems (along with their own exclusives).

I’d buy Halo and never play it.

I think that's the gist of it. Even if MS continues making consoles but drops all its games on other consoles (perhaps after a slight exclusive period), there really won't be any reason for people to buy said consoles if they are missing the other exclusives. As it is, the PC is cannibalising Xbox sales, never mind adding Playstation to that mix.

I'm not going to blame Mattrick entirely for this, he obviously had backing it wasn't done in a vacuum was it?

Yeah others(including Spencer) went with it.
But that Xbox 360 line was all him.

I've often thought that people seem to forget Phil Spencer standing right behind Don during even the worst of the xbone debacle.
Of course, Mattrick was the man at the top, but Spencer was still the good little soldier touting the benefits of watching NBA at the same time as playing COD Ghosts and why always online was actually a good thing because of the power of the cloud and that Kinect was just so essential... and to be honest I thought he had a smug look on his face while he was doing it.
I don't really understand how he managed to dump all of that heat exclusively on Mattrick, but fair play on him for his PR and his "man of the people" persona

It's a little strange how those that White Knight Spencer completely ignore all that.
Seem to remember Don and Harrison taking most of the heat. Not that either did any good after MS.

Theres a free to play multiplayer Halo game right now. How is it not one of the most popular games around?

Halo infinite is probably perfectly serviceable but there are so many shooters out there and they all demand you commit to them. It’s just not doing anything to elevate it above the others.

The copium at the minute is that they're announcing a new handheld instead as there's some tweet Phil Spencer liked which mentioned it. I wouldn't be surprised. They seem to like following what is successful, and it was no coincidence they looked at what the Wii was doing, and introduced the Kinect. I could see the same thing with the handheld. But makes you wonder.. what's the point? You can manage to get xcloud/GP on your Steam Deck/whatever you are using.

I tell you what, if it was on PS5 I'd play it I do actually really like the Infinite MP, I thought they did a really good job of it. I would like to play it more but, as mentioned, you can't just dabble in shooters anymore - they all ask for commitment, and I can only afford to do that in one.

I didn't mind Infinite but at the same time I uninstalled it after finishing the campaign and never went back.

Exactly, that's why I can't understand the industry's obsession for live service games. Yeah I know WHY they do it by it's still baffling how they continue to chase it when you're consider how many corpses of studios they leave.

Talking of handhelds, there's a rumour that Sony are gearing up to have another go (with a proper portable console, not a streaming device like the Portal). I'm betting it'll cost the same as the PS5, have a battery life of just over an hour and, after reasonable-but-not-astounding sales will be killed by Sony 18 months after launch.
And I'd still buy it, because the PSP and the Vita were both amazing machines with a great catalogue of games and my hope is that this one would follow suit. (But it's probably just going to be a portable PS4)

There are a lot of games that I'd like to play but due to all the extra baggage I can't often justify it to myself, though realistically I could just just play as much as I want and drop it. With all the fomo with battle passes and limited time events, etc., I choose to just sit out instead.

If I were younger and still played multiplayer regularly, I would definitely be favouring Halo over most of what else is on offer currently. It is proper sci-fi instead of a near-future military shooter (which are really just modern military shooters with less pretence of realism), offering a time to kill a little closer to traditional shooters instead of the more common modern style of whoever shoots first wins. Destiny probably offers similar but the games as service style, sort of MMO type thing doesn't hugely appeal.
The fact I didn't really play much Halo Infinite is probably more a me problem than the game itself and the fact that I really only play single player nowadays. What I did play of the multiplayer seemed really good, even if the single player was just ok.
