I'm probably not buying another console for myself anyway given the series X sits under the TV doing fuck all apart from the odd bouts of game pass gaming.

Of course the idiots on reddit and trueachievements not taking this well Some demanding for Spencer to be sacked, these idiots deserve Phil Harrison back
I can see MS annoucing some games going to Sony and Nintendo platforms but its not going to be all games or going 3rd party. Also I think they will stick with with consoles at the minute but push streaming via gamepass on tv, phones, computers until the go all in streaming via gamepass.

The response to these rumours online have been, predictably, completely unhinged. If I were Phil Spencer I'd be giving some serious thought to hiring personal security.
Don Mattrick has a lot to answer for. He effectively damaged the Xbox console brand beyond repair and it's been on a steady, inevitable decline ever since that disastrous "TV TV TV" E3 event.

They are probably just announcing the SeXBoX tie-in with OF. That's where the real money is.

For what it's worth, I don't see the Xbox hardware division going away, but I do think we'll see a lot of exclusives now heading to other platforms. I imagine the rumours that Sea of Thieves, Starfield and Indiana Jones going to PS5 are most likely true, but I don't for a second think the likes of Halo will ever make the leap.
I think their next generation machine will be really interesting as they absolutely know they're going to need to pull out all the stops to stay in the game.

Not sure if someone mentioned it, but there's a rumour going round about day one game pass games are being stopped, until X year.

Yeah seen that.
Said before it should have always been they go on GP a few months later. Smaller niche games like Rush? Yeah day 1 but Halo? Gears? Or Forza Horizon? Nah. Or they keep the premium early access which worked really well with Starfield.

I would almost guarantee that if they suddenly decided to tell people that day one Gamepass games were stopping they would probably see a significant drop in subs, and if they delayed them by a couple of months people would just wait. The genie is out of the lamp you can't just put it back in without significant ramifications, people aren't suddenly going to start buying all the first party games again.

If that is it then I’d drop gamepass.

Sure MS said gamepass day one does not affect sales
GP saved me from buying then trading shitefield. Maybe they should make their big name titles better as Halo and gears are not the must play titles from the 360 days as well

Heh. They’ll introduce a new tier of Gamepass that would still offer Day 1 access - $29.99/month?

Gamepass is great, but it was never going to be able to continue in it's current format. The cost of AAA games is so vast now that they were always going to struggle recouping the expenditure, let alone making profits.
I've always felt that the only long term option with the model is either to focus much more on smaller games and go with quantity or to stuff all your games with DLC and micro-transactions. I don't see the former attracting the kind of mass market subs they would be after and the latter has proven to be toxic with the audience.

I think it's obvious that GP, particularly the day one stuff, was run as a loss leader in a bid for market share. I know people like to think Phil is just that altruistic but ultimately the bean counters need to be satisfied. With it running now for several years and the Xbox market share being what it is, it's possible someone important might have said enough is enough.
As a subscription to games that have already had their full price release window, it still makes perfect sense.
Actually - that might be how they get it onto Sony's platforms. Make it just a conduit for Xboxes first party games. Sony get some former Xbox exclusives, MS get a new GP subscriber who can, if they want, access the full library elsewhere (PC).

The problem is they've set the precedent with Game pass for so long that any deviations from the current format now will send the most vocal (and usually moronic) elements of their base into an apoplectic rage.
Half the problems with the gaming industry come down to the fact that a significant number of the customer base are utterly unreasonable cunts.

I'm a Xbox-first fan, since my first modern console was the OG Xbox (followed by a GameCube, never purchased a PS2). Even though I've since purchased every major console (x360, Xbone, XseX, PS3, PS4, PS5, Wii, WiiU, Switch) I still prefer to game on the Xbox (silly names and all) specifically its controllers.
With that introduction, it's no wonder I'll admit I'll be sorry if MS pulls out of the hardware side of business completely, as I've gamed on Xbox for 20+ years. Hopefully, their plan involves getting GamePass on other consoles as well as the next Xbox console, but I wouldn't blame them if they cut their losses and turn to publishers only.
After all, their market share doesn't look likely to expand beyond the 3rd place (Playstation/Nintendo brands are deeply rooted into the minds of gamers worldwide) and with AAA games costing vast amounts of money nowadays, competing with exclusive titles and leaving so much money on the table doesn't seem logical. Would love to be proven wrong...

Well they are rumored to have a new console coming in 2 years so I doubt they are getting out of hardware. (Course plans can change).

The copium at the minute is that they're announcing a new handheld instead as there's some tweet Phil Spencer liked which mentioned it.

TBF I don't think Halo has the same reverence it once did. 'Halo Killer' used to mean something a while ago, now not so much.

TBF I don't think Halo has the same reverence it once did. Yeah frankly that's kind of been at the back of my mind every time I read a "noooo not Halo!" comment. It would make headlines for sure but being brutally honest, I can kind of see it dying on its arse sales wise on PlayStation, unless they really turn it around
