Between my and my brother's growing up we've had a fair few failures one way or another. PS1/2/3 have all died or had disc drive issues, Dreamcast had disc drive issues, Xbox 360 RROD and more recently an OG Xbox One was stuck on the green boot screen, faulty hard drive most likely but replaced under warranty.
Don't *think* I've ever had an issue with a Nintendo console, absolute garbage joy-cons aside.
I've actually taken to repairing consoles more recently as a little bit of an occasional side hustle and/or bit of fun. If you've got the gear and a set of steady hands there's a million videos and guides about to help you on your way. Managed to repurpose a £50 broken Series S from Facebook Marketplace as a Christmas present recently for the brother in law.

I repaired my controller that came with my xbox one a few years ago, right bumper was broken inside. recently it has worn left stick
The controller that came with my series x had to be sent back within the one year as the X button stopped working, barely used the machine in the 1st year

Mine expired the day before Starfield came out and I resubbed exclusively for that game... obviously hindsight is 20/20. On the bright side we should be seeing the fruits of the ABK merger end Jan/early Feb when the Xbox direct is. |

Looks like they're taking even more steps towards making rewards shit.
Weekly specific game related quests seem to have disappeared and the big monthly quest only needs 8 weekly quest completions instead of 12.
I'm not going to miss them anyway. Most of the recent weekly quests required you to play the game for bloody ages unless you were lucky enough to have an existing save for it.
Seems weird though. Surely people who jump on to do those quests are more likely to spend more time playing.

but yep, its lot less points as 250pt weekly quests gone (although some were awful if you don't play the game) they have increased the monthly back to 1000 but you need a lot more daily ones
As I've said before companies like MS make a service really bad over certain time period to avoid backlash if they kill a service straightaway. (like GwG) Sadly it works, you get simple gamers who say "welllllll, its been awful for ages......."

I no longer visit the MS Rewards subreddit regularly, but, for the last few months, many of the posts have been highlighting the downward spiral of the Rewards programme generally.
It’s not just the points you could get from the Xbox bit. Points for searching have been penalised, clickables that used to be worth 50 or 100 points are now worth 1 or 5. There have been many, many changes to the entire system.
I uninstalled Edge just before Christmas, as I only had it for the bonus points you got for searching with it, and the recent nerfs have rendered this…well…pointless.

I’ve also switched off the auto-redeem which got me one month of GPU for 10500 points, rather than the usual 12000, because last month’s auto-redeem failed to fire, and the tide of opinion amongst subredditors is that MS is locking the automation for accounts they believe have been carrying out non-authentic searches (such as “sausage-in-flask 1", "sausage-in-flask 2", "sausage-in-flask 3", etc.).
Over the next few months, I’ll find out if I can scrape the 12000 points I need via my much-reduced use of the system. Time will tell.

Yeah, I've decided to just pack it in when I hit the next month of GP milestone, as it's just not worth the hassle now. Mission achieved I guess.
Uninstalled Bing on my phone the other day and just use the much less cluttered copilot app if I need AI for anything.

Really interested to see what MachineGames have been up to with Indiana Jones. I'll try not to get too hyped!
Avowed should be class too. I'll give Hellblade a go but I'm not the biggest fan of Ninja Theory's style over substance games.
Would love to be proven wrong.

Indy was announced ages ago. Like close to the time MS bought Bethesda.
I don’t know that shadowdrops will be MS’ new thing, but if it were, I’d guess it’s something not yet announced or teased, the way Hi-Fi Rush dropped. Rather than something we’ve waited years for like the ones listed.

Jeff gerstmann podcast had a good bit about MS games coming to other formats. It makes sense for sea of thieves to come to other formats and makes sense for other games like hi-fi rush as well
Of course the xbox fan boys on reddit and TA are acting like its a game of game swaps, or frothing at the mouth over exclusives. Maybe get outside and touch grass (or frost right now in the UK)

Some go way to aggressive on it but I can see the point of why do you need an Xbox simply because the message from MS is all over the place.
Makes sense not to take games like COD, Minecraft, Fallout 76, ESO and so on off PS but the narrative some media are going with that people might play Rush on Switch or PS then jump over to Xbox is just pure BS

I think there's probably a school of thought within Microsoft - not everyone, maybe not even most of the people at Xbox - that they're a software company whose software should be as accessible as possible, and their hardware should function as a premium way to show off that software.
A bit like how Surface laptops are very good, but expensive, and help to showcase different aspects of Windows and Office. So an Xbox shows off how good their games are, but you don't need an Xbox to play them.
Again, I don't necessarily think this is Uncle Phil's POV. But I bet some people think like that over there.
