Potentiometers go wrong or get dirty sometimes and causes stick drift, the Dreamcast had magnets instead so they never had stick drift while the rest possibly could and more often with cheap potentiometers.
Changed my logitech pedals potentiometers during lockdown for some fancy ones but been lucky with controllers in the past until the 2 white xbox one pads I bought went with stick drift.

The big three need to move to hall effect sensors for their next controllers. They're a more modern interpretation of the Dreamcast's magnet driven sticks - no parts rubbing against each other means they're less likely to wear down with use.
A lot of third party manufacturers are already using hall sensors as standard.

Xbox controllers have been fine for me this generation but the the PS5 ones have been shocking. I had the R2 trigger go after 6 months and then stick drift on the replacement which is pretty bad, resetting does nothing either.
I do use the PS5 more often.

My LB is semi-buggered as I have to press it along the top for it to work. More annoying than anything. Don't think I've ever experienced a problem with a gamepad of any kind before though so it's slightly outrageous

I've stuck a moany old man claim in with Alberto on the MS chat thingy. Will see if that gets a freebie first, but otherwise I'll be tapping you up Phattso for the info on that. (Or google it, whatevs.) Damn it Alberto, you've failed me! "Greetings! This is an update on your recent contact with Microsoft Xbox Support about your replacement request for your Xbox Elite Wireless Controller Series 2. During our chat conversation, we tried to check for a replacement order both using our tools and when you went to our website devicesupport.microsoft.com however we couldn't find a replacement order, since the warranty has ended. I tried to persuade our offline team about your request and relayed all the info you provided on our conversation, however I'm afraid our team could not find a method for replacement order. Here's what we can suggest. Depending on the store policy, you may try to contact the store of purchase, and see if they can offer replacement for your controller. For your reference on Xbox controller replacement, you may visit this website: support.xbox.com/en-GB/help/hardware-network/controller/controller-warrantyIf you like to some troubleshooting steps in attempt to fix the controller, you may visit this website: support.xbox.com/en-GB/help/hardware-network/controller/wireless-controller-solution"

I’d be inclined to bring up the consumer right acts 2015 and say just over a year is not a ‘reasonable’ amount of time for a controller to last, regardless of the warranty?
Edit: especially one marketed as ‘elite’ for a much higher price than a normal controller?

That's the retailers' problem then though, not the manufacturer.
Of course MS could be the retailer too here. Too lazy to scroll up to find out...

You now get 5 rewards points (instead of 50) for getting achivement a day reward

Jesus, that's bad. I wonder how long until they clamp down on 250+ points just for leaving AoE II sitting in a lobby for an hour every day. I'm still inching towards a £25 voucher, but even that seems like a waste of time if I can just use the Iceland store instead.
I think just launching AoE on PC was enough to cross off weekly/monthly quests anyway, so now I just won't bother saving up achievements (Toem has served me well for that!) In fact, I'll just end up playing my PS5 more without a daily incentive to boot up the Xbox. Well done, MS!

We're probably all using those points to add to gamepass so it never expires.
They won't like us still being on cheapo subs & are trying to stop it. 🤣
It's certainly whittling down my excess points balance as the months go by with the reduced terms of late.

In EU it is, but hasn’t the UK dropped to 1 year since leaving the EU? I can’t remember.

I think it’s very loosely defined as ‘what a reasonable person would consider reasonable’. So a cheapo pair of headphones would be next to nothing, but you’d expect an expensive white good item like a dishwasher to last 2-3 years at the very least.

1 to 2 years.
Longer depending on price.

Yep, I’ve got the next 3 years subbed already and have the monthly recurring auto redeem on. Have had over 4 years of GP through rewards points. After the initial £1 conversion they’ve had next to fuck all out of me since 2019. We then use the points collected on the Mrs’ account to buy most other games that we want that aren’t on GP. They have been slowly butchering it. The monthly 2000 point card on the console reward app went a while back. As have all other punch cards on there. The monthly completionist one was halved to 500. The shopping game was removed a couple of weeks ago. Putting the achievement reward behind gamepass only as well. It’s been a good ride so no complaints here as it’s something they don’t have to offer.

I still have a year plus of GP left after my initial £1 swap, so also been a lot of years for sod all. It's a shame, but I should possibly be paying a bit more, although I get much less use out of it these days, but my lad still floats on my xbl, but is only really FIFA etc so doesn't really use the 'free' game pass games much.

I know MS don't have to offer reward points but in the past I would use the rewards to buy games from the store then I would get more achievements to get more rewards. So instead of looking at ps4 to buy the games, I would just get it on xbox.
Now the reward points are awful, they even cut down the daily for launching a game from 5 to 3 points! I could understand them cutting to just gamepass members but even for gamepass members its piss (and so are the perks, every few months you would get a good one)

Booted up my Xbox to a full screen ad of MW3 before I could see my dashboard. Looks like this will become a thing...

Expect more of the full screen ads for future games. A friend still works as MS said they are just trialling with random users right now

I saw a possible pretty pretty pretty good deal last night on AMEX rewards.
Directly at Microsoft site, spend £400 or more, get £100 statement credit back, a series X with MW3 included is £429.99, so by my sums that makes it £329.99!

Wish they had a scheme to trade a Series S in for an X (and for a bit of money obviously).

Yep, that would save me some earache as child 2 has X but child 3 has an S, first world problem little shits.
edit: MusicMagpie says £100 for a series S excellent non-pube condition, not sure how reliable that is in reality.... buy an X with AMEX at microsoft and that's a £230 upgrade.

Just cleared out a load of games off the Series X hard drive and downloaded/installed some others and have been having some issues with the console since. The console takes a little while to boot up (longer than normal), loading up a game takes ages and whenever I try to load or save a game in Cyberpunk, it takes ages for my saves to show
My guess is the hard drive needs cleaning up or something but looking through the menus, I can't find anything like that
Any ideas?

Perhaps a proper factory reset, if not it may be that it's slowly dying and may need a trip to repairs assuming it's under warranty still?
