At least they could make it more targeted. A cod game is the worst possible advert for me. Same as YouTube, a targeted ad I don't mind as much because I might see a movie trailer or see a product I actually want.

There are already 4 dashboard tiles MS could have used to advertise COD. Fortunately they don't obstruct the core user journey of simply finding and playing a game.
The main issue for me is that you're forced to interact with this pop-up ad. They've effectively turned the dashboard into a bad website.

Between the price hike of the series S in Brazil (their 3rd biggest market), the push for authorised third party controllers, Microsoft binning free games pass for employees and now pushing ads to purchase Microsoft owned content on the consumer it feels like they are using anything to recoup costs as soon as possible. Ultimately consumers end up paying for it, and not always (and mostly) in the wrong way and I suspect we hear of other “initiatives” over the next few weeks and months.

Didn't they cut down heavily on rewards recently too? I seem to have missed out on the glory period while my account was shadowbanned from rewards for some reason.
Been doing it fairly consistently for a few months now and I'm not even 80% towards a £25 card.

Yeah. I don't mind as for so long everything has been such a bargain Vs Nintendo and Sony. It's still by far the cheapest/best way to game for me.

I bet they broke the punch cards on purpose so they can say "oh there was problem and we can't do it" but here is the worse replacement

I keep the console offline to avoid all of the MS bobbins. I don't play anything online so only need it to purchase and download games. The menu is pretty clean that way - games along the top row, can't connect to the network message below that

I earned 25,000 points last month, it's gone down a lot. I load up AoE at midnight and do the xbox and mobile stuff to get that.

I only care about playing games so keeping it offline gives me the fastest turning the console on to playing experience. I find MS's attempts to dictate how you use the console annoying and keeping it offline avoids most of it
I'm never short of something to play and Gamepass would only lead me to playing things I don't care about for an hour because I can, if at all. If I'm not willing to pay for it, I probably don't want to play it
And fuck getting dragged into working to earn points and all that

it seems MS has blocked using wired 360 pads with xcloud, as it worked up to the recent news. the utter shit bags as it worked well

Yeah, it appears on boot up, just after the logo disappears and before the dashboard. I’m guessing it’s a bug, rather than intentional marketing harassment, but I do occasionally turn the Xbox on before my TV and might accidentally find myself on a purchase screen one of these days.

I just logged in as my son to level him up on hunt and it gave me the full screen ad again. Not that ms cares but for the first time ever I clicked their feedback bit and send a nice friendly message about how I never want to see call of duty advertised on my console again.
