Starfield and Forza Motorsport are decent enough games but they don't feel like anything that couldn't have been done last gen with minimal cut backs. And the image quality on Series S isn't the best with either.
First game that's felt properly current gen to me on Series S has been Darktide, good image quality plus a steady 30 coupled with really high fidelity and a fun game to boot.

According to Digital Foundry Darktide has worse aliasing and resolution than Starfield and Forza on Series S. It must be the inconsistent model quality, cleaner look and me more often focusing on distant detail in the latter two that makes the aliasing more obvious to my eyes.

I am holding unto hope that starfield will get patched for xbox series x. I truely think it was optimized for the S first and X second. I currrently use the X only as a backwards compatibility machine. I think Avowed looks pretty decent and should come out in 2024.

walmart in the USA may drop selling games on disc. Of course the most stupid people on reddit are clapping like dumb seals, even saying "good riddance!!!1111" as they smack the keyboard with doritos caked dust sausage fingers. While I use gamepass a lot and like it, taking away choice is always a bad idea. Some gamers are so addicted like a smack head they will do anything for their next fix
More games are released in shitty states and some gamers actually thank companies for some half arsed patch. Trying to get refund from MS support is pain if you don't like the game (also game demos are not common as these companies don't want you try the game)

Addicted to what?
Can you get refunds for physical games if you don't like them? It wouldn't even occur to me to try and take the game back if I'd opened it, unless it didn't work

Also at least I people can sell discs once finished

Going to guess both MS and Sony will do buy the disc drive separately next gen.

Lies of P is stellar on the Series S. Incredibly detailed art, breathtaking at times and a solid 60fps. It sort of shouldn’t be, but it is.

Sony are doing it this gen! I know but I think that will be the only option next gen.

I accidentally* bid on and won a Razer Turret (Gears 5 edition) along with a big razer gears 5 mouse pad thing (goliathus?).
I think I read that Cyberpunk got patched to work, anything else I should play for 10 minutes before going back to a controller?
*In order to stop me spending money in the Amazon sale on a keyboard and mouse, I chucked a bid on ebay knowing that I wouldn't win, but obviously if I'm bidding I don't need to buy one. Perfect logic.

Cheers. There's a lot more there than I thought, I might get 20 minutes out of it. I reckon I got a bargain at £120 anyway.

Sony are doing it this gen! I know but I think that will be the only option next gen. With MS going digital next year on the Series X, and various retailers getting ready to drop various physical media, I would think next gen will be digital only. 4 years to phase it out from now, and follow PC gaming.

I've gone digital on xbone anyway. The disc drive only gets used if I really want to watch Bubba Ho-Tep.

Short indie games aside I’m never going digital unless physical is not an option. And then I’ll only buy digital either on subs service (included) or with a min. third off discount. Game companies make enough as it is! (admittedly often deservedly but theres a line…)
In fact I’m all for (like the music industry) tapes coming back. 17hr loading times off 200 tapes with the squeal of the loading screen would be bliss.

It does very much feel like the writing is on the wall for physical media. Kind of shit for maintaining BC if you have a hefty physical collection like me. Although it's a fraction of what I had in the 360 era and I can't remember the last time I used one of those discs, or even played a current or previous gen game more than once (RE4R is probably the only one)

Just tried it a 4.30pm today and 15 wait and its never 15 minutes It used to be fine, but something's changed in the last couple of months Never used it much, mainly to get points for weekly gamepass challenges and occasionally for playing stuff on my tablet, but it never used to involve a wait or more than a minute of two at slowest. Now it takes so long it's pointless.

Also I get less Ms reward points as MS are stingy as fuck now. I would buy downloads with them. Less reason to go for a download ver.
Playing Like a dragon inshin on gamepass and tbh I'm glad its on gamepass as if I purchased it as download I would be stuck with a game I would never play it again. On disc I could sell it and get some money back. On other games companies don't want you to try games as they want you to buy it off from some review and then stuck with a game you can't refund or sell.
MS and sony (plus nintendo) will never allow downloads to be resold or even competitive market for game keys. Just look at movie rentals now, lots of platforms but standard pricing for rentals (companies actually have £15.99+ rentals now for new titles and they can dicate when you can rent it for 5.49 or whatever)

No surprise in regards to Bond. Clearly getting her ready to take over from Spencer one day.

Why are Xbox games held hostage to updates? Had a quick look on the store today and it decided to update Cyberpunk - over 30gb. That's hours on my connection and the game can't be played until it's done. Can't it just download the update and then ask me to close the game to apply it when it's finished? It's really irritating. There's one for the expansion as well
Even pausing the download doesn't make it playable and cancelling it results in uninstalling the whole game
'Who's playing today?'
No one
I just want to understand what benefit I am receiving via this update method. Is it like that on PS and PC now as well?

Are they new updates though? I just got that one on mine and I seem to get a Two Point Campus update every other week. Was starting to think it was an issue with downloads? Maybe wiping each other out?

Must be. Been playing it for a few days and it's been working fine without any issues, so I would have been happy to leave the update until it was convenient
I can only imagine it is downloading the new files straight onto the HDD, which seems like a really weird way to do it
Or MS have mandated that if a game has a patch, it must be installed before the game can be played again (to avoid bugs I guess)

I was going to play some Fallout New Vegas instead but I'm scared it'll be shit now after playing Cyberpunk So I could load Cyberpunk without the Phantom Liberty expansion patch but then the game said my save was incompatible without PL installed. So yeah, another 25gb download
As for F NV, it holds up surprisingly well next to CP. Not really

Indeed NV needs a remake. Preferably with the remnants of U2’s Sphere set and a new quest involving a robot replica Bono returning to earth (through the unwanted installation of his latest album onto the last human’s indestructible Apple tech Mac Air startup screens), to save Adele’s vocal cords from her tattered skeleton to launch a new religion based on the sound of Soul. Ooh RT would be nice too (as long as 60fps is maintained!)
