Decline in physical is ultimately all about the fight for decreased cost of supply and increased price control (keeping the price high) with the added benefit of an admittedly good environmental argument.
I’m still fighting the good fight for physical personally because I would much rather have physical ownership of anything really as ultimately you can then benefit from a physical sale later.
The likes of Larian for BG3 on PS5! Congrats to them for a massive digi only release but I wont personally buy it until it’s £45 or less as for me my absolute top end is £60 on any game no matter what and I’d want to be able to get some of that back on sale too.

I'm quite tempted by it just to make use updated WiFi. Never get over 250Mb/s on mine whereas the PS5 can saturate my connection.
I should probably just stop being lazy and run a cable across the room to my router, as that's a daft reason to upgrade... I'm still buying discs for it as they're often cheaper.

I've noticed series X games on disc are still quite expensive despite the games getting older eg Dead island 2 - they have not dropped in price much. I guess as they not producing a lot compared to the past gen. It will be a shame to have less choice as having digital only choice is terrible when it comes to console store front. As they can charge what ever they want (just like in the film market now, say you want to rent something, they started doing £15.99 rentals and they let you pay lot less when they decide you can pay 3.49 up to 6.50. (gamers who say MS was trying to do a steam and have severe stockholm syndrome and no doubt have xbox oneise , xbox fridge and shrine built of kinects to Spencer and major nelson)

With MS finally getting their act together on 1st party releases via GP a revised 2024 X is a bit tempting (in a current 1st Gen S owner).
That said just so long as they still release their games so we’ll optimised for S (I’m still staggered quite how good Starfield is on S) then I’ll hang back until X rev 2 gets a decent price drop…
Just hope gen 2 does not lead to S version Gen 1 sliding quickly downhill with new release performance…

Yeah, I was going to get a series X this summer but I think I'll wait now for the digital version especially with the new controller. I've got a PS5 with a disc drive and I honestly almost never use discs I have to. It really is just more convenient to buy digital and I've become way more choosy about what I'm buying so I do use sales more.

It's pretty telling that despite the entirety of Microsofts roadmap and plans for the next few years being leaked, there are still hardly any games coming out.

Very few games is still a lot more (outside of Indie releases) they’ve managed last 2yrs so I guess beggars can’t be choosers?
I’m in 2 minds… PS still ruling the roost by some way on release exclusives imo but MS is starting (finally!) a bit of a comeback and GP is undoubtedly good value vs PS fp retail purchasing but you really have to wonder about sustainability.
imo GP will end up like Netflix.. largely oversaturated junk offering with the odd decent release in the mix…

Think 8 first party games so far this year?
Plus about 15 games got leaked.

How many 1st party games does each PS5/Series have in total? As a Nintendo fan primarily, there’s a lot of bias to what I’m about to say, but it seems pretty meagre on both consoles.
Which is also fine by me, as this whole AAA thing does little for me generally.

Can’t disagree Ninty 1st party also very strong but almost all of them are stuck in the same theme cycles and are pitched by majority at younger audiences (admittedly not always a bad thing!)

MS are all over the place. Last year they released about 3 first party games. Sony do a lot of remakes now days which pad the numbers IMO. Though saying that Nintendo are going down that path as well.
Both should be in a position of being able to put out 5-10 each year IMO.(don't all have to be big AAA games)
Nintendo don't have enough games that actually appeal to me.

I'd say most Nintendo first party content currently and the stuff coming is purely evergreen content. Still waaaay more than what's being released on Xbox and PS.

With that leaked Bethesda schedule plus everything else we know is on the way I'd say the release schedule for the next few years is looking relatively healthy all things considered, delays not withstanding that is.
Or as healthy as a schedule like that can look at least, depends what you're looking for I guess. Development cycles and costs are astronomical these days, expecting AAA first party bangers willy nilly every other month is a fools errand for the most part.

Yeah and that's just Bethesda.
Ninja Theory have Hellblade 2 and project Mara which now looks to be an existing IP IO are working on project Dragon Playground Games have Fable 2 Double Fine Projects Avowed Outer Worlds 2 South of midnight Everwild Killer Instinct upgrade Flight Sim 24 State of Decay 3
And then soon you add Activision Blizzard and King.

There's the TGS Xbox show running right now, let's see if they announce anything (not expecting much though).

Not much, as expected. I guess the most relevant announcement was Hotel Barcelona, a joint effort between Swery and Suda 51. They didn't mention any platforms other than Xbox Series for some reason (is it not coming to PC?).

What's the ! Symbols for on certain games in the My Games section?
Some have a disc icon to show that I own the disc version but not sure what the ! In a Triangle is for?

Danger, danger. High voltage!
Something that you don't have a digital license for, I think. My disc games show it if I don't have the disc inserted. Same if I queue up a random game that I don't own to download via the Xbox app.

I think it’s games no longer on gamepass.

Supposedly it is to show that you no longer have the licence to play that game, for example it has left Game Pass or you are not signed in at that moment. I should check my list as I haven't noticed these new badges. More details here

Seems buggy. As the license/not signed in one appears on my disc owned games.

There's only one SKU for each game, not one for disc and one for digital, so I guess it just can't differentiate.
Previously it'd just give you an error if you tried launching a game you didn't have a license for, now it shows this silly icon too. It's kind of handy for finding installed game pass games that have expired, but yeah it'd be nice if there was a way to exclude disc games.

Anyone got any experience with the Serious Sam Collection on Series X (BC)?
Heard mixed things about the quality of the ports (buggy, not loading, crashes). Not mad for them but it's £9.99 in the current FPS sale and I remember them being decent fun
Don't care about the third one
