Returned to gigging Saturday just gone, first time since May 2019 I think. It was great but...
The 'gig hangover' is worse with age.
With travel and waiting time it was an 11 hour day. Got home just before 1 o'clock. Adrenaline and overstimulation means I didn't even try to go to bed until about 2.15. Don't think I then slept until past four and woke up at about half eight.
Got through yesterday on fumes, tried having a kip in the afternoon which was not forthcoming.
Rudely awakened by my alarm today and I feel worse than yesterday. I'm gonna need to start work half an hour late (thankfully WFH and on flexi) and it's taken 25 minutes for my eyes to unsticky/unblur and be able to see well I'm that tired.
Does anybody have any tips on how to come down afterwards that don't involve booze or substances?!

Well done on the gig man, but sadly what you've described is the reason why I don't miss doing it any more.

You could try meditation or yoga? Meanwhile... Those are a bit closer than I intended. Unfortunately, there's a support girder (above a door in a supporting wall) just to the left of where the LP is, so it can't go further over. Ah well, just have to be careful, eh.

@drakesmoke
I've only done 3 gigs with our band, and I'm feeling it already. We've been overdoing it a bit, so after the next gig in a couple of weeks, I'm having a break.
As for coming down, I use the booze and substances and make sure I have fuck all on the next day. Well, after shifting all the gear :/

Here's my bunch. Had so many guitars through the years, and don't play anywhere near often enough these days... Fender Jaguar is my favourite. The Ricky was from my teenage band years, and I love it to bits, but it's not particularly versatile imo. Really should fill that previous hanger hole too, before the missus kills me.

A genuine Rick. Nice. I can't be doing with the idea of wall hanging personally for reasons of safety, corrosion and dust. I get the idea of being inspired to grab one though. You are much less inclined to play a collection when they are cased. I do have a bit of a case fetish though.

From the suggestions...yoga ain't happening sorry. Meditation. Isn't that just thinking - that's the problem - too much of that!
Booze or other, really not interested.
It's just a hazard of the job isn't it I think. Along with tinnitus

I'm not sure what you'd use for guitars/basses, but for synths, I use covers that you can simply lift off to start playing and they protect from dust, knocks etc. Lightweight too. Admittedly, you don't need the scrabble deluxe box propping things up, but nice as an optional extra. Can you get guitar covers??

Along with tinnitus You're going to have to go for Decent food night before Early Night Many helpers as possible Which is very different to mine - Pint Smoke Pint Smoke Collapse

Mustn’t fear the dust! That’s where the mojo is born

Not in synths! You don't want dust in the sockets!

One thing the video doesn’t cover is an amps response, these different parts can sound the same but they might feel quite different to play and you can’t judge that by running a loop though them

Why is Eb such a bastard? I can do pretty much any chord, but that one fucks with my head. Grrr.

Edit. Yes. It's just a D behind a barre on 1 but it does my head in for some reason 😁

Why is Eb such a bastard? I can do pretty much any chord, but that one fucks with my head. Grrr. Learn how to make triads and different inversions. Try 534 DGB strings for instance. You only need three notes. Root note is on the thinnest string there. Another of these is the A shaped barre. Just barre DGB strings at the sixth fret. You don't need the A string. Root is on the G string here. Chords only need a root, third and fifth. Do a reverse of that A shaped barre, but grab the A string at fret 8 instead of 6. Third in the bass. Lovely chord voicing. Play around with hammer ons and pull offs there, instant Hendrix/Frusciante. Tune your guitar to Eb and play an E chord. Loads of options! Edited for four hours' sleep mistakes.

Edit. Yes. It's just a D behind a barre on 1 but it does my head in for some reason 😁 The first triad shape I've described is in the same area of the fretboard but easier to play. You can either look at these inversions like a keyboard player (root, third, fifth in various orders) or you could look at the CAGED shapes (which contain all the inversions but may be easier to remember). The first inversion I mentioned is found within both the C and D CAGED shapes. The Hendrix-y one I mentioned comes from the G shape. I rarely play the full shapes - the full G shape is REALLY impractical. Apologies if teaching a granny to suck eggs etc etc but this stuff is really how to unlock your rhythm stuff.

@drakesmoke ta, I will look into those.
Although not sure if the detune will work as everything else is standard, but I'll have a play.
I got a TU3 in the end, so detuning is now a piece of cake.
And it's absolutely not grannies and eggs. I'm entirely self taught so much of the theory is still unknown to me.

It’s good practice to make those shapes, even better to know the why of it, but yeah I’d sooner play it elsewhere or just mute the D string. If I really have to I tend to bar with my ring finger across the GBE strings, depends if your fingers bend that way though

6th fret DGB is a Db/C#, not an Eb, innit.

And I can get better at doing it. 👍🏻 I've done some reading on the theory too, which is interesting but might be beyond my poor brain without some lessons. I've been finding some really nice tones out of the Boss Katana with my crappy Chinese Les Paul, too. Which is nice.

Nothing crappy about an Epi! Lovely guitars It is actually very nice, especially for someone playing at my standard in their living room. Really importantly, it has me picking it up every single day.

Boss Waza Air down to £240 at Amazon and I’m tempted. I’ve got a Mustang Micro but I don’t really use it tbh, never quite sounds right but it’s likely more to do with my headphones. not sure if the Waza experience will be all that much different
