I gave up selling my basses. I would have to drop the price too much and fuck that.

Yeah I've only done it once and I do regret it. But it's done now so that's that.
Tbh, while it was nice and a looker, it wasn't getting used because I fell in love with the jazz bass so used it to get the jazz ultra, so it kinda paved the way. Albeit a slightly expensive paving.

Tbh, I'm not sure any of mine are worth much anyway.
The couple that might be have both been with me a LONG time and I have no desire to part with either of them.

It's even worse with synths.
If that helps in any way.

I'm tempted to trade my bog standard Squier Classic Vibe precision bass for one of the new satin finish Squier 40th anniversary precisions. www.youtube.com/watch?v=FFskcP5xWUUWould probably get fuck all for it though.

You lot really aren't helping me. I went through this a few months ago when setting up my new (very small) office space / man cave and eventually wom against the demons telling me to trade everything in for a pittance and getting something new and shiny. I'm back on that train now

Hah, here he goes. On the train you go... It's amazing how powerful the pull is for more basses isn't it? You settled on precision then? As opposed to jazz, I mean?

I've currently got two Squier CVs, a precision and a jazz, and I prefer the jazz - just in terms of how my specific ones feel to play. Might slightly prefer the sound of the precision, so the idea would be to keep the jazz that plays great and shop around for a pretty satin finish precision that plays nicer than my current one. (It's not a fretboard width thing btw, I'm fine with the P width.)

Good man But either way, yeah a satin finish is really nice. Yeah I know what you mean about the precision sounds vs the jazz. They're both very good. I just need a jazz for the band and the general type of bass I play. I do still have my vintera precision which is fucking beautiful to play when I need that sound. I could possibly sand that neck and give it a satin finish, thinking about it. Anyway, yes, get another bass

No, one precision CV and one jazz CV. And I'm thinking of trading the P for another P - net result, still only two basses

Yes, that will do as a 'starting point'.
For now...

Funnily enough, we were practicing some tracks last night at my house, so I chose the precision to play along with. I forgot it has a gloss neck. I might sand that off.
But it was still nice to play and sounded good. But even with the tone fully on max, it's still a little too warm for the music. I could put some brighter strings on it I guess, but the jazz just does all this automatically with no fuss. Still a nice bass though. I should do some new music that suits it better.

My u-bass project is coming along. Got the new strings put on, of course now my neck is out of alignment and my G-string is buzzing around the 3rd - 7th fret. Also got my Fishman mic from Ebay for £15. The newer Presys+ sell for £150, so I think I did okay, must be old stock they're trying to get rid of. To get that to fit I'll be enlarging the hole where the old electronics were and I guess redoing the bridge.

Superb stuff! I'll have to give it a shufty when I've finished work. Nice one man - you've been at this for some time! Decent achievement! What's next?

quadfatherThanks man. It's been a long time coming this one! Absolutely no idea ha ha. I seem to be spending more time writing these days, although I did finish a couple of tracks last week. Think I need to clear my head space a bit by getting these short story submissions out the way then I'll get back to to music.

Cool, sounds good.
Well, we've got 5 practices left before the next gig on the 24th Sept. And there's only 2 new ones, which I've got nailed now, so I can actually relax a bit more for this one and just run through them at home a million times before the gaff.
I was tempted to put some new strings on - they'd be just about bedded in by the gig, but I don't think I can be arsed
Still haven't changed a single string on any bass yet, ever.

And we've also been invited to the village 'festival'. Just a dj set though as got too much kit to setup for a full doo dah outside. I like the ad though- photos.app.goo.gl/vbo3XJmA7SKLQuD16

As classic as the Gibson is, the Rickenbacker pips it for me. That cutaway/recess, the stripy headstock, angled inlays that tailpiece, the pickups and the body shape in general all add up to ostentatious but gorgeous. Plus your cable won'tbe hanging out perpendicular to the body. Did you ring your bank yet? The problem with Rickenbackers (I've owned a couple) is that they have limited tonal variations and sound awful on some amps. Plus the two I've owned played like absolute crap with a really weird feeling neck, I think they are a proper marmite guitar. I've also owned a cherry red 335 and its right near the top of the list of guitars I wish I'd never sold (along with the White Penguin)

L: Gibson ES335 R: Rickenbacker 360 Tbh, looks wise there's no comparison, I've loved the Gibson since I was old enough to want guitars, just never been able to justify the cost (hence why I bought an Epiphone LP). But the Rick was beautiful to play. Dogbot if you want a 335 but don't want to spend £3K you can get a Japanese Tokai or Edwards homage between £1K-£2K on the preowned market. They are both just as good and hold their price well (if you buy preowned).
