I had my first band practice in over 10 years. The u-bass with a stick up its ass sounded pretty okay through an amp even with all the stock bits, but I've already got new strings and electronics on the way.

None of the band songs will be as fast as hysteria - that, I can guarantee 93bpm is quite slow, it's just it's sixteenth notes. I'm sure some of your songs are faster than that, do it! What's funny is our stuff is an average of 180 - 210 bpm, and I can't play Hysteria.

Ha. You're picking usually at that speed though I assume? And those open string bounces are quite tricky.

Yeah. It's amazing the difference. I mean, I normally pick, so I don't have to improve the finger technique. It's just that I'd like to be able to play fast that way too. It's quite the eye opener.
That said. It's amazing how doing some actual practice improves things. I genuinely think I'll have it sooner rather than later, but I may regret that hubris. At least the chorus isn't hard, so you get a bit of a reprive there.

Yeah, it's just outside my skill level with 16th's. I will do it - I just need to focus on these other 2 bass lines at the minute, ready for Friday's practice. If they go down ok, then it's back to hysteria again It's great practice alone, if nothing else.

I played a Rickenbacker 360 today and may be quite enamoured.
I can't possibly buy another guitar yet (shhhhh, you'll get me killed) but it was very good indeed.

No, Mr Bond. I expect you to try.
Tbh, I still think that if I were ever going to spend 3k on a guitar, it'd have to be a Honeyburst 335.

L: Gibson ES335 R: Rickenbacker 360 Tbh, looks wise there's no comparison, I've loved the Gibson since I was old enough to want guitars, just never been able to justify the cost (hence why I bought an Epiphone LP). But the Rick was beautiful to play.

Well, clearly you need both but there you go.
Yeah, that Gibson looks practically magical.
Just put down a deposit and do it on finance. 30 quid a month. Done. Boom.

In fact, I think our guitarist has a similar epiphone. Let me see if I can dig out a photo

@wuntyate Yeah, both of them do. There's a fair variation of colours for both, tbh. Danno yes, I believe so. Trust me, guys, if I could I would fill every wall in this house with guitars. I'm just not allowed. 😁

As classic as the Gibson is, the Rickenbacker pips it for me. That cutaway/recess, the stripy headstock, angled inlays that tailpiece, the pickups and the body shape in general all add up to ostentatious but gorgeous. Plus your cable won'tbe hanging out perpendicular to the body.
Did you ring your bank yet?

I feel like if you drop 3k on a guitar why not just get a custom one?

Just case one up under the bed and claim you traded in.

I feel like if you drop 3k on a guitar why not just get a custom one? I wouldn't even know where to start, tbh. And I've always wanted a 335. And I can't really justify 3k anyway. -- In the interests of fairness and having some free time whilst the Mrs tried on dresses today, I went to a music shop and played the Gibson and Epiphone ES335s. And as suspected, like with the Les Paul, there's probably not enough difference at my skill level to justify the spend on the Gibson. But. I'm 50 in a couple of years and I can probably get away with it then. Pretty sure the Mrs would prefer that to a Porsche.

I see you're still being stubborn.
Not got a lifelong guitar near the age of 50? Jesus christ man, you've got to get on that!
How did you manage to get 5 in the first place?
You could trade some in?

It's not so much "stubborn" as "married".

Haha yeah I get it.
But if you traded a few in and 'sort of tell her the price' won't that work?

Haha yeah I get it. But if you traded a few in and 'sort of tell her the price' won't that work? I think I could probably swing the Epi Dot now. But if I wait (and it's not that long) and make sure the lounge floor is done before then, I can get a Gibson one for my 50th. Worth waiting, surely?

I've got three cheapo guitars that I have considered trading in for a 'proper' one but always assumed I would get a shit price. Besides, they look pretty.

dogbot Hm. I have to reluctantly agree to that I guess. But make a song and dance about it for your 50th in advance so it's 'booked in' I'd even put a guitar mount on a wall ready and waiting and make sure she knows it's coming You know, I could just pay a little bit less off my mortgage and theoretically I could get a prophet 5 synth. Nowhere to put it, but that's irrelevant.
