Further to Washburn update. Traced the short to the volume pot. I think.
So now the question becomes, do I unsolder and resolder it? 🤔

Yes! We've found the groove with that talking heads type of track! Bingo! Result! BTW we may have a bassist now. He's very keen and I've to send him tabs over the next few days. Funny thing is that he's a guitarist mainly. So I may even see if he wants to swap down the line as I still don't know if I want to do bass and vox or gtr and vox.

Gearing up for a gig next Saturday, my first as a guitarist in many years (play bass in my main active band). Doing a covers gig for a party, which is not something I'm really into, but promised a friend. Probably first time in my life I've had to actually learn a bunch of solos, as I've never done much covers before. Playing some absolute cheese (Poison, Livin' On A Prayer, Rock 'n' Roll All Night, that kind of thing), but at least it's mostly not too complicated. Soundcheck will be first time the rhythm guitarist and the vocalist meet, so that will be interesting.
Terrified, and excited to actually put some of my pedal board to work outside of the home studio.
Looking forward to shredding through Sharp Dressed Man though.

I bet it'll be a blast. I quite like sharp dressed man I'm starting to get pre gig nerves too! It's about 3 weeks away now and we've just about got everything ready and we're practicing twice a week now instead one once to make sure we generally have it sorted.

There's a lot of wires going to it and a couple of them are the same colour and I don't think that I can do a wire at a time soldering. Could also be the pot itself, of course. But yeah, needs a professional.

So, finally sorted all the songs for this album. Erm. All 19 of them. They need work on my part still to re-record some bits, tidy others etc, but think we're finally nearly there. Just finished the last track tonight (still needs cleaned up etc), which is a cover we decided to throw in for the lols. Is it wrong I want to start a Little Richard cover band now? I enjoyed singing this far too much. Long Tall Sally

From the earlier stuff you've posted I'm sure you'll be excellent! We had our final practice yesterday (without the vocalist, so still a bit confused about some of the song structures, but what can you do?). Ran through the set 3 times. I don't think I've EVER done that before, but it needed to be done, 5 people who've more or less never played together before. Will probably still be one of the sloppiest gigs I've ever done, but what can you expect from a private covers gig, eh?

It's always what it's going to be on the night so we'll just give it 110% and have a blast. Sounds like good progress though, going through the set list. That's exactly the stage we're at now we've finally agreed on the bastard order. If you keep blasting through the set list, you should be bang on. Enjoy it!

Isn't it odd how this thread stays quiet for a while (obviously while we're all sorting our shit out) and then everyone posts at once when it all starts coming together. Love that. after 4 months I finally got my quote from Gibson for a special order (I suspect the guy at Peach just made a number up because it was 5am in Nashville when he says he called them). I’m turning the big four zero next year so I’ve gone for it. ‘59 reissue ES 355 with a factory fit Bigsby and nickel hardware instead of gold, cherry red, should be ready in 18 months or so

Superb!
Actually, I wouldn't get another bass at the minute. I'd get a Moog One. Um, but they're £8k

Yeah, that's getting into pretty serious purchase business. Although I'm not sure if a custom shop 355 is going to be much less. I've seen second hand ones for 4k.
I'm not good enough to spend that on an instrument. I've got a £1500 Takamine electro acoustic and that feels profligate 😁

Nope, it’s not… and I’m definitely not good enough either but sod it, I’ve wanted one ever since I was a boy sat watching Bernard Butler. I’ll absolutely be spending the next 18 months practicing like a monk so I’m sure to have a few more chops come collection day

elstoof Bloody hell, that's a lifetime keeper of an instrument purchase if ever there was one. Fantastic. Your 40th is more than reason to justify it. You only live once etc etc.

dogbot and at £1500 that's more than double my most expensive instrument. Then again if I stopped spunking all my money on PS games I'll never get around to playing I could probably afford something better....
