I was today years old when I learned that apparently (exploration spoiler) at least one Wellspring in the Depths (the places under the Springs of Courage, Wisdom and Power) has a secret behind its waterfall: youtube.com/shorts/S_BoiZtYqmII'm a gamer and didn't check behind a waterfall, I am ashamed of myself )

ALWAYS look behind a waterfall. ALWAYS climb the highest peak. ALWAYS try and cheese kill the high level dragon you found that you definitely shouldn't be able to kill yet.

And always use Ultrahand to make cute little hats for all the Gleeoks you come across.

Excuse the bump but I never finish games and so I finally get to give some closing thoughts after picking this back up a month ago!
I got roughly halfway through this last summer before getting distracted (2-3 dungeons and half of the shrines). But I've spent the last month blitzing all shrines (152!) as well as all the underground tree things before finally killing off Ganon. Loved it! I even started collecting random armour pieces before I eventually felt I was ready to move on. All the callbacks to earlier games were great and a completionist could have even more fun here. Apparently I've only uncovered 60% of the map but I think that's me done now.
Not sure Nintendo tops this one. It is also remarkable that after 120 odd hours you never see a crash or any bugs.

Oh also I only learned how useful the puff mushrooms were in the last few hours of the game.

Yeah. So many good items down in the depths. Some are ridiculously over powered!

We only get murderous about the Elden Ring/Hollow Knight bumps.

It'd be interesting to compare notes between people that only played one or the other. BotW is the better open world+Zeldrovania, but TotK had that Lego fun going on. Built on the same place, sort of.

It'd be interesting to compare notes between people that only played one or the other. BotW is the better open world+Zeldrovania, but TotK had that Lego fun going on. Built on the same place, sort of. I was trying to think back to 2017 and when I first played and completed BOTW and I agree that was probably the better game and had a much greater impact and 'wow factor' stepping out into an open world Zelda. But all the things that initially irritated me about TOTK - like the fiddly nature of Ultrahand and what felt like an obligation to go into the depths - eventually won me over and by the end I found exploring the depths and finding all the tree roots to be quite enjoyable. And I started plonking down ready made cannons and the sandbox combat felt a bit more enjoyable. Breakable weapons still annoying though. I seem to recall the shrines were much better in BOTW. The proper 'dungeons' felt like an afterthought in both games. Both a 10/10 for me though for the amount of enjoyment I got out of them! Now maybe I should go finish Elden Ring or ask for a sequel update in the Hollow Knight thread.

I don't want the tat, but I do want the themes, or at least a nicely-arranged medley of some of the shorter bits. The OST is on the Internet Archive, but a lot of tracks are fairly short motifs.

I’m determined to finish a few Zelda and Mario games. I’m currently up to the last boss on Links Awakening on switch, think I finished that one back in 93. Might go for Breath of the Wild next then another of the older ones before hitting TotK.

If you’re gonna play both, definitely play BotW before TotK. Not even because of the narrative. Just to appreciate the scope of both games.
